Freddie Mercury was so much more than a rock singer, he was a brilliant musician, an excellent singer, songwriter, storyteller. He had an eclectic musical taste and the range to sing operatic songs. Montserrat Caballé was one of the most famous opera divas of the last century, she was famous for her very high soft notes. Montserrat was brave enough to take the risk to sing with a rock star, because she recognized The Musician in Freddie instantly. Great reaction, thank you.

Caballe was one of the best soprano of the century, a queen of pianissimo. I grew up listening to both rock/metal music and different classical styles including opera. Much as I've loved Freddie all my life, Montserrat is on a different league, and I can perfectly understand why he feel in love with her voice the moment he listened to her. She was also a warm woman, full of laughter. I miss them so, but at least they left behind this jewel of an album together.
When Montserrat met Freddie, he soon discovered that he was a baritone, a very specific voice in opera, but he could sing easily as a bass, as he used a lot with his raspier rock voice, and also as a tenor, with the higher voice, as you can see in "Somebody to love" and "Bohemian Rhapsody", in addition to "Under Pressure", where he gives a show with his highs. However, despite having this dream of singing opera he felt he would betray his audience, luckily Montserrat encouraged him and they recorded this amazing album. Yes, this song elicits many emotions 😢😊 whch you both experienced - but I think the overriding emotion should just be joy that they performed this and it was recorded for posterity.
It is quite moving knowing what we know about what was happening to Freddie at that time. You can see the true connection between them through the Music and physical presence, amazing adoration of each other as incredible singers and musicianship. Monserrat has stated that Freddie was a true composer of Music. I love your reactions, they are emotional and genuine.

And Freddie Mercury many times expressed amazement the Diva, Montserrat Caballe' would sing with HIM (also...she glows saying, he Wrote For Me. She suggested they do an Album. And "Barcelona" is that fantastic collaborative work. Dear Lady, your words mirror my heart's pain regarding having to accept wonderful Freddie Mercury had to leave us. We lost Montserrat in 2018. May they both continue to rest in peace.

She told Freddie that as, you said, an opera singer she was accustomed to stand in place and sing. But Freddie encouraged, almost gently demanded, that she MOVE!!!

Thank you, that was a wonderful journey you went on there....after Freddie died others asked if they could sing with her....Montsy replied “no, only with Freddie”....here on RU-vid there are vids of the two of them chatting...have a look ......and after Freddie died she talked about their friendship......they were both in awe of each other❤🤩

I still believe, in my opinion, The Golden Boy is Freddie. Freddie’s compositions were magical and beatiful...and he was a lyrical and musical genius. Just go back to the songs hecwrote in the 70s...i mean, who could come up with this music and bring Rock, pop, Opera and Gospel together..
