Freddie Mercury was a man of many talents and many different sides. The songs he wrote for and with Queen filled stadiums around the globe and have rightly gone down in history, but he also embarked on a solo career that took him from the clubs of Munich and New York to the great opera houses of the world.
He was the ultimate showman, but he kept his private life away from the prying eyes of the media; a larger than life rock star who loved disco, classical music and ballet. He was a restless spirit, a true chameleon who revelled in his own contradictions.
All the different sides of this iconic musician can be found on Freddie Mercury: Messenger Of The Gods - The Singles. All formats released September 2nd 2016.
This extended video, directed by David Mallet, accompanied Freddie Mercury's seventh solo single release, in February 1987. Using rushes from the filming, the video perfectly captures the fun and frolics that Freddie and everyone around him enjoyed while recording this video. The two 'lady' backing vocalists are none other than Freddie's good friends Peter Straker and a certain Mr Roger Taylor, from a band called Queen. The single was released in the UK on 23 February 1987.

Whether Freddie sang his own songs, Queen's songs or others' songs, he made each song his own. Such a unique gift, not many artists have that quality, truly one of a kind Freddie was in every way.

Sha Na Na does a better version of this song than Freddie. Its very close to the original. Freddie's version, especially the video, is too much sexual overtone and the cross dressing turned me off. This simple song from the 50s should never have been used. Freddie should have had a song composed for it. No radio station ever plays Freddie's version.

I wish Freddie could have left his mustache on. As stunning a man as he is I just really miss his fabulous mustache. He kept it off for his project with Montsy and Barcelona. I just love Freddie so much and miss him more and more everyday and I always will! The Great Pretender is a masterpiece. Barcelona is a masterpiece. 🍷For me, this truly was Freddie's swan song. Yes, he did do other songs and videos after this but sadly, they capture more of his decline. Here he's vibrant, funny, charming, endearing and so very Freddie. Plus with addition of him revisting all his greatest videos is an incredible and fitting tribute in so many ways wrapping it all on a high note. You were the greatest Freddie!!

I come back here to see Freddie as himself--just having fun, being himself without any filters. It's Freddie as he is. If he's still around now, he most likely wouldn't mind being out. He also doesn't have the big star persona that many people get, but you can see here he's so much down to earth.

That wouldn't be possible. The only reason this one is able to look so good is because it was recorded on film. It's the same reason Montreal looks more HD than, Live Aid for example.

I've watched this countless times and I laugh as hard every time. Every single second of Freddie, Roger and Peter is gold 😂 I've yet to find a video with all the behind the scenes footage but I love the parts I've found. I can't *believe* I'd never seen this before! I watched the Pentatonix cover of BH - wow, just wow - then came across a documentary on Freddie; it showed a few seconds of this video, and now I'm hooked on it. He's just gorgeous here, without the mustache! Next to his entrance - epic! - my favorite "glimpses" are at 3:50 and 4:59. What a voice.

Даже в костюме женщины он более мужчина, чем многие, мнящие себя альфа-самцами. Он был настоящим рыцарем - храбрым, великодушным, независимым, гордым. Никогда не подстраивался под мнение других, позволял себе быть свободным. И при этом " человеком без кожи", добрым и ранимым. Все "приколы" - это и есть его искусственная кожа. И только очень-очень близкие могли видеть его без этой оболочки. Люблю, глубоко уважаю и восхищаюсь!
