This recording came about as the result of a lonely Thanksgiving evening in the mid-1990's. I decided to go the the university where I was a professor, and make this recording by myself in the school's recital hall. The piano was a Yamaha CFIII, that I had just tuned and voiced, and the equipment was my Sony DAT machine and a wonderful pair of Beyer ribbon microphones. I simply sat down at the piano and played. I later made two cassette copies on my excellent Nakamichi deck which I sent to two friends, Ken Manzer, and Claudia Stewart. Sadly Ken, a first rate pianist, died suddenly. I kept in touch with Claudia over the years, however. I lost the original tape, but, one day, I asked Claudia if she still had the cassette copy. She had! So, this is the digitized copy from that tape. Frankly, I was shocked at the clarity of the recording as well as the fact that it is technically quite clean, unusual for me! In fact, I have played the Preludes, in part or whole, for years, both here and abroad. I love them though I find them extremely difficult. A. lifetime challenge. ♥️🎶🎶🌹
