I like vetiver, I really enjoy Nishane Sultan vetiver and Amouroud Lunar Vetiver,,, the former being for vetiver lovers only for sure.. So would be very interested to smell this.
@@RamseytheRam its a very smooth, clean vetiver. Smells pretty green and has a little spice from pepper. It is on the cleaner side such as Roja and Tom Ford for example. I like it very much, very versatile and not crazy expensive at discounters.
Very interesting take I enjoyed that a lot! V. Extraordinaire is my favorite vetiver and I need a new bottle soon! I don’t know how Ropion did it but it’s a masterpiece. Smells so uplifting and clean and just incredibly expensive and high quality. Signature scent worthy. I can’t get enough of it.
Interestingly enough, this was indeed the vetiver that turned the note around for me. 😁 Probably the first FM that I really considered getting a bottle of. But Guerlain's Vetiver edt edged it out at the time.
What's your thoughts on regular English Leather.. there seems to be a darker label with darker juice and a lighter tan label with lighter colored juice..???
I like regular English Leather... I have a vintage bottle and it is quite good for the lowly status it is bestowed upon it by the fragrance community ... thanks for watching :)
Sounds to me like I have the softer side and earthier side covered with Sultan Vetiver and Lunar vetiver,,,, I have found an unboxed deal for Frederic Malle vetiver extraordinaire for 120 gbp for 100ml (130 usd),, i might just take the plunge
Good to see English leather black arrived . But act I think fragrance x or net had full 100 mild for like 14$. Those bottles looked different. the the one I got is a heavy wood cap. It’s actually an expensive looking bottle. I look at that wood cap and can almost smell wood when sniffing it. Weird how that can work psychologically. Lol. Anyway speaking of Vetiver I was watching your ranked Guerlain video about and hour ago and was wondering if you see any difference between the old bottles of vetiver and the listerine bottles. I love it and I have the listerine. I guess Guerlain tends to keep its formulations intact?
I love hearing about how you struggled with vetiver and how your nose came around. I also struggle with it when it’s dominant and find it so austere, masc, and WASPy (for want of a better descriptor lol.) I have noticed that I am warming to it when I detect it in a chypre for example. Also, I just got Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 and am loooving the vetiver in it. I think it pairs brilliantly with elemi. I have a partial of vetiver extraordinaire that an Airbnb renter left at my house in 2012. I’ll try it one more time before I sell it but never understood it’s appeal. I’d love to hear more about notes you changed your mind about for good or bad as I find how tastes change so fascinating. Cheers mate 🍻
Great video Ramsey. Loving the content as always. After saying Guerlain Vetiver is growing on you and you understand it more would it still be as far down on your top 100? (I think I remember it being in the 90s somewhere?) Or did you have the same opinion re guerlain vetiver back when you ranked your favourites.
Hey Ramsey, great video! not sure if I missed it but there were not references to Roja’s Vetiver (I believe you mentioned in a previous video you don’t like it). How do you compare Roja’s vs FM’s Vetiver?
Oaaafff I thought Roja Vetiver Parfum fell very close to vetiver extraordinaire & Guerlain Vetiver Extreme (2007).. darker than Guerlain Vetiver (1959) & Creeds Original Vetiver but not as dark as Encre Noire or Sultan Vetiver... but honestly I need to wear it more to jog the old memory 😁
Ramsey what’s your opinion on Aaron Terrence Hughes as a reviewer on his youtube channel? He gives a lot of the fragrances that you don’t like really good reviews ie initio side effects,Naxos,Alexandria,Carlisle oud for greatness etc etc .Everyone I know says he’s the most trusted reviewer because he’s a actual chemist and this is his profession and he knows more what he’s talking about than anybody else.
I thought Vetiver Extraordinaire smelled like a neighbor's house. It must be the spices in it. I enjoy French Lover more. It's been a couple years since I've smelled vetiver Extraordinaire though.
Really dig Vetiver Extraordinaire, just not enough to buy. (The standards get so high as the collection grows.) It IS a chilly one. The word “quicksilver” always comes to mind when I smell it, but not sure why. Unrelated prying: Are you by chance from the East Coast? You strike me as East Coast, not Texas.
I had the same experience as you when it comes to vetiver. I use to avoid it and now I like it. I think this happens to a lot of fragrance connoisseurs.
I just may have to make this my first Malle simply based on your analogy to one of the most iconic films of my preadolescence. Guerlain Vetiver is one of my take to the grave frags and I feel the balance of cleaner notes with the deeper accords (i.e. citruses vs tobacco, nutmeg). Would you say the FM is very vetiver forward or more in the background? Thanks Ram! "If done correctly no can defense!" - Mr. Miyagi :D
Oh its definately vetiver forward... if I didnt have so many vetiver perfumes I would go for a full bottle😁 No can defense indeed... this is perfectly balanced ⚖️
Some people talk to the animals and some of us others talk to our animalic perfumes! (Sorry, I was just watching you trying to find a “home “ for your newest acquisitions and it reminded me of me trying to find a home for one of mine when there is no room at the Inn.
Do you like other vetiver scents like Guerlain Vetiver, Sultan Vetiver, Encre Noire etc.... if you dont like vetiver perfumes you wont like vetiver extraordinaire... however for what it is I think it is a very well done Vetiver perfume..... maybe it will grow on you one of these days 🙃
