God bless you and your loved ones and I wish I had some meaningful words but I do understand some of your pains.. lost my dad when I was about 16 and my eldest brother a couple years ago and it was the remembrance of his death date like a few days ago.. with respect and love I offer my condolences.. it never gets easier but if we live lives that would make them happy and remember them, then they're never truly gone..👍❤️👍
My brother Donny on 3/13/24, passed away after fighting mastesized pancreatic cancer. I was right there beside him until his very last breathe. I was asked to make a very small play list for his service, with music he really liked. This song played on my heart so it will the first or last song played. Donny, my sweet brother, you are indeed free as a bird now. I love you and will miss you. To everyone on here thank you for sharing something so dear and close to your hearts about your loved ones who have passed on to paradise. They are free as birds
My husband was a big fan and really enjoyed Lynyrd Skynyrd,so when my hubby💝 passed, I had the first verse of this song imprinted onto his funeral pamphlet. I hope it helped him soar into the after! We also played this song at his memorial.💝
I just found out my Mother passed away a few minutes ago. She was really into music like this. She is from that era. At the time of writing, it's Autumn. Where I live you might as well call it Winter. It's been very cold the past few days. Just went outside and the temp is perfect. The sky is very blue and bright. Couldn't ask for a better day to be alive. I'm glad it was like this for her on her last day. First thing I did is go outside and play this song since she always said it was such a powerful one. She was right. Thank you for uploading this.
My mom always wanted this song played for when she passed. Three years ago I gave her exactly what she wanted and still play it when I need to connect and think about her. Love you mom!!!
Classic! Love this band! I’m may be 14 in 2024, but hey, it ain’t a crime to love Lynyrd Skynyrd, Journey, Bon Jovi, Kizz and more! I don’t care how much people hate me for it, I will forever love these songs
2 seconds into this song, i burst into tears. Tears of relief, recognision and something else. Havent heard in like 15 years, and it brought back a wave of a feeling of complete freedom for me. In 2 seconds. Gotta love music
My father passed away in 2016. This song described him to a T. He used to jam it loud as hell everytike it came on. We blasted this song so loud at his funeral tbe speakers blew and we all laughed so hard. Miss you Dad. RIP. Timothy Harmon 1963-2016
The first time I ever heard this song was at a high school dance. Since it started as a slow song I grabbed Beth and headed to the dance floor. In those days I was too shy to dance fast songs -- plus slow songs let you hold her. When the solo kicked in, I was stuck on the dance floor for a fast song. I stayed out there and made the best of it, but 'll never forget this song. I still love it after all these years.
@@crsntmoon744 I wish it would had never happened, I’ll never understand his death but his sister and I can only hope he’s at some kind of peace. Thank you.

You are a grown lady in her probably late 50s and you are commenting about your sons death which was 2 years ago on a rock/pop song instead of commenting on a overrated facebook post, that's a first.
I've never really listened to this song ....heard it so many times...but to listened to it like really take it in .....no. so today in the quiet of the morning thinking of my dear sweet friend who recently passed and had this played at his funeral, I did...I listened and it's amazing....the instrumental took me to another place...exceptional! The world really is a duller place without you in it...see you in the next life....soar high my dear friend! R.I.P Jojy Cooper xx
Ive time travelled back from 2224 just to reassure y'all that this track is still banging 200 years from now. Peace and love ❤️ Gotta go now, salutations peeps 🖖
I was fortunate enough to watch Ronnie Van Zant sing this epic song, just a couple of months before the fatal plane crash. Mr. Van Zant had everyone just mesmerized! In a helluva rockin way! This day, was & still is the longest playing song I've ever heard & seen in my life. I'm 64 and I've only been to around 100+ concert's. Skynyrd was at the Willie Nelson pik-nik in 76 in T-TOWN! Tulsa America!!
Me and my friend did this at my passed best friend funeral. Just Jay on piano and me on acoustic guitar then the curtains moved back and a whole bunch of us just got into it. I never wanted it to end. Must have played that for over a 1/2 hour. Not a dry eye in the room. even the bad ass dudes broke down!!! Then we broke into some Clapton "tears in heaven"!!! I still miss the door opening and hearing "Hey Cajun, what you up too, neg!!!
My mum passed away back in May this year. She was fanatical about music, if it was a decent song, she loved it with such fierce passion. Free as a bird you are now, mum. I love you always, pippi. 💖
Believe me, she’s rocking on the Stairway to Heaven like a Free Bird with the Legends of Rock N’ Roll, and I can assure you that she’s having the time of her life, my friend. And when it’ll be your turn to leave for the Neverland, she’ll be waiting to see you come surfing on the insane solo of Free Bird, rocking towards the eternal youth of the Rock N’ Roll Vallhala like a Rider of the Storm, to become one of the Fortunate Sons. 🤘🤟
Had a shotgun in my mouth in high school in high school listening to this song and my phone rang, it was a girl i had a crush on, she was just calling to say hello and to chat for a while....absolutely saved my life!
Free bird is one of my dad's favoeite songs from Lynyrd Skynyrd, and its a song that i will always keep close to my heart. He passed on November 3rd, 2020. Worst day of my life. I havent been able to listen to much of Lynyrd Skynyrd because i miss him, and it hurts, but now it feels like a hug from him. ❤️ Love you daddy. 🕊️
To anyone who had this at a funeral or thought of a loved one, props. To those that are still here, thanks. To me, this song is just amazing all around. Listened to it most of my life. Good times and bad times. One of the few songs that just really call to me. In many ways. Soup for the soul so to speak.
Hard to find a rock song with more emotional and cultural impact than “Free Bird” (1973)❕ The LP version clocks in at 9:08, with the last line uttered at 4:55 (“Won’t you fly high, free bird, yeah”). Those last four-odd minutes might comprise the most famous instrumental passage in rock history. Guitarists Allen Collins, Ed King and Gary Rossington were allowed to jam for extended periods long after most tunes would peter out. Of course, the radio edit was cut down to 4:41. Many listeners believed that “Free Bird” was a tribute to Allman Brothers Band guitarist Duane Allman, who died in 1971. Skynyrd sometimes dedicated it to Allman, but it was created long before his demise and in no way about him. The triple guitar solo is the same style as many early Allman Brothers lays in which Duane partook. Lynyrd Skynyrd* came to an abrupt and tragic end at the zenith of their fame when their plane ✈️ crashed en route to Bâton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1977. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines were killed, and other members were badly injured. They re-formed in 1987 with Ronnie’s brother, Johnny Van Zant, stepping in as frontman. Johnny Van Zant spoke about “Free Bird” : “For years, Skynyrd has always closed the show with that song and the song has different meanings for different people. This kid was telling me that they used it for their graduation song, and not too long ago, somebody told me that they used it at a funeral. And really it’s a love song, it’s one of the few that Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ever had. It’s about a guy and a girl. Of course, at the end it was dedicated to Duane Allman from the band Allman Brothers because it goes into the guitar part. If you can get through that one, you’ve had a good night at a Skynyrd show.” Originally, this was a ballad without the guitar solos, and it was first recorded that way in 1972. Allen Collins had been working on it on an off for the previous two years. At the time, the piece clocked in at 7:30, but throughout the next year, Collins kept on refining it until it was audiotaped for the final cut of “Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd” in 1973. Collins crafted the music long before Ronnie Van Zant came up with lyrics. Ronnie finally got inspired one night and had Allen Collins and Gary Rossington play it over and over until he completed the whole text. In places, the high-pitched guitar mimics a bird flying free. This is something Duane Allman did on the 1970 “Derek & The Dominos” track “Layla,” where he plays the “crying bird” at the end. As attention spans have gotten shorter and the demand for lengthy guitar solos has waned, “Free Bird” has faded a bit over the years. While the lyrics contain the phrase “free as a bird,” the title itself is uttered only once, right before the guitar solos begin. ONE MUST-LISTEN‼️ 💚🐦💙🎸💜 * They named the band after a high school gym teacher/nemesis called Leonard Skinner.
A wonderful classic song. Which has lots of wonderful, thoughts of a very special person in my Life. Even if not together anymore no one can replace this special loving woman. Thank you 🙏 ❤
