After a few days on the Diamantina River at Old Cork Homestead free camp we followed the quiet road through plains and past hills. At almost 400 klms this road showcased some very diverse landscapes, cattle grazing on green grass then dry rocky flats and more water than i had expected this far from the coast. Thought about a stop at Mayne River camp which had a swimming hole but needed to get back to civilization for school. Stayed at Jundah for a few nights then headed to Windorah. Checked out the big red sand dunes of Sandos and camped along the Currareva waterhole
For one night. Little bit noisy during the daylight but settled down after dark. From there we made it to Quilpie and stayed just East of the town. Woke to the sound of rain and quickly got moving as we were in a pretty muddy spot, just made it out. Had to hang around back at Quilpie until after lunch when the rain stopped. The park in town has free showers so we made use of them and rode on the peddle car track. Caught up with the rest of the crew at The Foxtrap hotel and it decided to rain leaving us with no option but to stay at the pub. We hung out with some locals and got an invite to stay on a farm (thanks Mal).Country hospitality at its best . Mal showed us around his farm and we enjoyed some home made bread and a fire. One of the best things about travelling anywhere is definitely meeting people and learning all their different ways of living. I really loved this side trip , i am always surprised at how different the picture in my mind is before i get there to the actual place.
