I have a problem when I close the server and open it again The saves back to the first time I save the game even if I save the world it is back to the first save (I couldn't find any way to fix it anywhere)

how to change from Normal mode to Hard Survival mode? I try "hardsurvival", "hard survival", "Hard Survival", & "Hard survival". Nothing seems to be working and I'm getting error starting the game up

someone can explain to me why i dont find my servr, i found just in LAN section. But not in other, i try all u say in the video, like true or false in the doc, i try everything. I found it but only in LAN and in my consol server, of course it s writed " dedicated server starting" but the first line says """ assertion failed : attempt to call interface with invalid hSteamUser """ i bought an account on a website so it's cheap, maybe the SteamUser account is bugged or invalid for something so i cant creat Server but i can see my Serv in Lan Section so idk ! thx a lot

Why does this chew up my memory and show a dos window constantly. The fkrest server is lite on memory conpared to this and does not have a dos window open all the time and the forest has a server.exe in the processes and yours for sons of the forest does not....

When joining, there's an option top of left side. Peer-to-peer > Click the arrow to go to dedicated listings.

Great guide as always. I'm having an issue when starting the server it says the the ports are closed and won't let me proceed. I double checked the rules and they have been applied correctly. Is there a way to bypass the check?

Only way I managed was double check allowance was UDP for all 3 ports, and applied to PC's firewalls, any routers (didn't have to with modem due to transparent bridge setup)

How "heavy" would this be on your PC, could I for example run it and play another game at the same time with a semi decent PC or would it like only have enough to run the actual server + me playing on it?

You only need to open those 3 ports for the pc that has the server running on it.

I also had this issue at first but was able to fix it. Smaller ISP companies often will use CGNAT like mine does. From my understanding this means they have a big router with a public IP address, and that IP address is shared among multiple customers. This means the router at your house doesn't have a public IP address. This is why my Port Forwarding looked like everything was set up correctly in every way but it still wasn't working. The solution: I called my ISP and told them that I was trying to port forward for a game server and they issued me my own public IP address just by requesting it (some ISPs will charge for this, mine thankfully did not). I used to have Xfinity and this wasn't an issue.

Make sure you have it saved on the same drive as your game. That seemed to be the issue for me.

Required forwarding those ports as UDP to not just PC firewalls, but any routers/modem as well here.

I’ve been grinding this game on a regular multiplayer server, and I’m curious to kno if I can change my regular server into a dedicated server. You can try to move the save to the saves folder in the dedicated folder, then adjust the dedicated config file to match your hosting config.

to the people who forwarded ports and say ports are still closed, you need to open those ports on your server's firewall (like windows firewall etc) as well, or just turn the firewall off on the host

@@Adrielgames1Because if you just start a multiplayer session and a friend joins, many people find that every 10 minutes their friend loses connection & loses progress to the last save. That's why you need to run a dedicated server on your pc, because that seems to fix it for me and my friend.

The no-GUI version is very lightweight, no-GUI also doesn't utilize your GPU so you can play whatever while SotF dedicated runs in background.

The ports listed are all UDP. May be because I used different ports on my network, but had to allow through PC firewalls (windows and any others), and router(s) (and modem if you're not using transparent bridge).

Rooter. Nice guide though! But I think your website has the commands for LANonly backward. If you want only LAN players then logically you should have it set to "true", but your guide says "If you’re going to test the server before port forwarding: You need to set LanOnly to false,". Furthermore, at the bottom of your page you have the opposite for being open to the internet.

i think the firewall commands arent the only thing needed... you more than likely also need to mess with your router settings. You should add that to your wiki or make a new video on how to set up on separate PC with the intention of playing locally and with friends outside of your home network.
