I played this masterpiece when I was 5 years old because a friend of my Mum gave us his old pc and my uncle gave us the game on cd. I really loved this game so much. I'm really proud that I played this game one of my favorite games and memories!!!

Pretty good that it's free but having a reduced field of view is important in strategy games (and many other types of games - like MOBAs for example) for SOOO many reasons and missing the music is a shame as well. Appreciate that they're keeping the game alive on newer platforms though, very cool.

I saw this game and half life on the shelf right next to each other back in the day. Bought Dune 2000 and never regretted it. Emperor is also a kickass game.

i've still got the OG CD. it won't install but this is awesome. it pulled the music for dune2k off the disc as well as the cut scenes for the briefings

it is easier to install on 32 bit windows but it can be installed on 64 bit windows 10. keep in mind, it is a 16 bit DOS game. there are install from CD instructions here forum.dune2k.com/topic/27834-how-to-install-dune-2000-from-cd-and-bring-up-to-date/ Good luck, i'm itching to play it.

As far as I remember, CC had better controls than Dune, e.g. select several units. And wasn't it the same developer? Generals Zero Hour helped me through last weeks' restrictions :-)

I was always a fan of the C&C series since the very first game which was also my very first PC game. However, I never tried once the Dune series by Westwood. The day draws near. I shall try it. And yes, both series were developped by Westwood Studio.

A weird thing to say imo, the Dune books were most definitely not written specifically for teenagers. Butlerian Jihad? All the politics, intrigue, cruelness, murder? I'd sooner label the books 18+. These books have a *massive* following from people of all ages. Maybe the book didn't "do it" for ColdBeer anymore, but that certainly doesn't mean it was written for teenagers. A quick google search will even tell you that. Great to know the game's available remastered though! But no cutscenes? Darn...

The original game has gotten updates too, you can play in high resolutions, it allows you to choose a renderer that works on windows 10, you can play it online on cncnet and you can also choose any mission or even the many (over a hundred) custom community missions and campaigns with a tool called mission launcher. So yea, the original game has evolved a lot, i am surprised nobody highlights those things on youtube. Just search for dune 2000 gruntmods edition if you are interested.

I tried to install it but at the end of the installation it says that I need .NET 4.7.2 or higher but when I try to install .NET it tells me it is already installed. I just checked my computer Registry and I have v4.8...Phishy or buggy?

BFD as a mission pack to run on the Dune 2000 engine, yes. I found BFD's gaming engine to be cringy. Dune 2000 was good. Bit unbalanced, but hey, thát made the game fun!

@@thegreenreaper6660 why do you find it cringy? Dune 2000 look and sound is dull in my opinion. You don't get the satisfaction of armies fighting. Moving is sluggish and robotic. Stock sound they use are grading. Weapon effects and destruction are unapealing

Game doesn't have the cutscenes, because they are copyrighted. You can watch them all on RU-vid (or play the original game)

It's a bundle of 3 games. Download what you find on the website and check your desktop. You will see dune's icon. Click on it and it should install the game. At least something like that if I remember right.

I completely disagree about Dune being written for teenagers. There is far more philosophy in the books that I completely missed out on when I was younger.

If you want to read something more serious, but still entertaining and not entirely for the teenagers (as Dune is) - I recommend Sapkowski's "The Witcher" :)

In my country all sci-fi and fantasy back then was considered as "children books" so between years 8 and 14 I have probably read ~700 of them. And I have read the best of them again (including Dune) when I was an adult - and only Sapkowski's "Witcher" and Lem's "Solaris" impressed me like the first time.

Instead of hitting Reply you just dropped a link in the comments (i deleted it) with Dune's gameplay. It's from 1992 not 1996 as you say, and it is very different game. Dune was released in 1992, then Dune 2 was released (also 1992) and then Dune 2000 was released (in 1998). So, dude, use Wikipedia or something next time, thanks :)

Dont play this trash. OpenRa is fine for the CnC games not for dune. U want the original dune2k? Then download it and use Gruntmods. Custom campaigns, resolution patches and more.

it looks horrible, I mean its 1998 the best RTS of all time (SC1) was released that year too and looks way better than this "remaster". And yeah SC1 had an official remastered version not long ago. IMO the original game looks like something released in 1992 at best.
