Angelic voices. Surpassingly beautiful harmonies. There is something slightly genius about the arrangement. Like the cover of It’s the End of the World, the subtle melancholic turns are sublime. Just wow. This is simply beautiful. Thank you.
Goodness. This has to be one of the best covers of a song I've heard. You can still hear bits of the original, but it's way different and the mood is blissful. Claps for everyone involved. Added to my repeater playlist.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is what has been missing in Western pop for about the last 20 years - really strong vocals that are strong enough to handle the band doing some great stuff ie. not minimalist accompaniment for fear of overshadowing the voice. If you listen to Japanese pop, the level of musicianship is so high that you get incredible bass slapping and guitar or keys soloing all over the vocals without detracting from anyone - the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. The closest thing we've had before Magaziine is Scary Pockets and Vulfpeck and I'm happy to see how popular actual high-level musicianship is becoming (assuming we are not just in our own music echo chamber here 😉)
I derived immense pleasure from listening to this song. The lyrics of this song have acquired a renewed significance, evoking a profounder sense of melancholy and light irony.
I appreciate new directions for covers but I'm not sure this one really works. Other stuff so far I'm bouncing between the synths and the vocals with enjoyment. I feel like the synths and the vocals are just kind of getting in the way of each other on this one.
This is sooooo good, it's utterly impossible to play just once...Better than the original..? Absobloodylutely... and Jack, don't make ANY changes to this aurally eargasmic excellence..!
I didn‘t only fell in love with this very delicate piece of music but also with this extraodinary and very sweet girl to the left 😊 (should be Arielle I guess…?) I am free waiting for you! Greetings out of South-West Germany 😎
Agent: Hands Biden a memo. JB: "Is this classified? It doesn't say it is, but it appears to be talking about classified information." Agent: "Well, that makes this memo automatically classified but we won't worry about those technicalities, Sir Autocrat." JB: "Wait. What did you say?" Agent: "Nothing, Mr. Dictator. We'll mark it with a classification later. The important thing is that it is not marked right now." JB: "Oh, okay."
Minion: "Here is the list of undocumented nuclear launch codes you requested, Mr. Treason." JB: "Wait. What did you say?" Minion: "Nothing, Big Guy. You da man! The important thing is to realize that you are completely authorized to release this list along with all potential made up targets to the Saudi Arabians, Chinese, and former Soviet Union as these launch codes, while legitimate, are non-documented and unofficial and thus not classified." JB: "Oh, okay."
Hi, still an amazing band that I like to listen. I'm not really fan about this version, i thought you would've done it in a country style but it's because I'm reaaaaly fan of the original ;) no matters it's just my opinion and I love what you do most of the time, it is just not my taste for this one ✨
I usually like everything Pomplamoose touches, but this feels completely divorced from the emotional statement the original made, and not in a good way. Tom Petty's version was about feeling detached from someone he was supposed to care about and simultaneously feeling both guilt and relief for that detachment. This one lacks any such angst. It SOUNDS pretty, but it's empty of emotion. It's a fail in my book.
I'm wondering why they bothered to use Tom's lyrics at all because other than that, there's not a thing about this that even hints at the original song. I love the synths and the music and the quality of the vocals but just make it an original song. Why forever convolute it with a rock tune from the 80's when just a few extra steps would have left them with a wholly original composition?
What I love about your comment is that it's exactly why I am obsessed with this version. The detachment and disassociation of how one may feel guilt, hardly ever feels true relief. To reinstate Free Falling in a somber synth with the gorgeous harmonies is what makes this captivating while reinterpreting the song so perfectly, to me.
Why not just go all the way and put your own lyrics on it, too? Don't get me wrong, it sounds fantastic but it's so deviated from the original, seems like you might as well just make it an original.
Really unique take on this song. Only the barest hints of the original melody are here, but the ethereal vibe compliments the essence of the lyrics nicely. I was entranced. Thanks for sharing!
FINALLY--a reharmonization that goes all the way! (rather than the typical "We're gonna change a couple chords just to be different and kill the hook" thing y'all do so often). This is spectacular. really amazing. The vocals are brilliant as is the arrangement. double-plus good.
Nice twist on a classic, would like to see you guys do a kate bush running up that hill cover, that would be a banger especially with all the synth magic.
Maybe my age stops me from enjoying this style of music but I just don’t dig all the gadgetry it just doesn’t seem to give the vibe or the feeling of the original with guitars and drums a bass
Ok, a truly inspired cover here. I absolutely love the original, and Petty's vocal is so distinctive, it'd be hard to merely try to copy it. You've practically written a new song here, and it works great as both a song and an arrangement. Kudos! 😎
I like bringing the original melody back in the middle break. Interpretation is beautiful. I did something along these lines with Once in a Lifetime. Love taking an upbeat vibe song and exploring the darkness in the lyrics, slowing it all down, making it a little spooky. GREAT work.
