In this session, GRE instructor Whitney Garner guides you through GRE content drawing from the 5 lb. Book of GRE Practice Problems. Ratios are the too-often ignored power tool for many GRE questions. Rather that get immediately temped into doing a bunch of algebra (creating variables, writing out equations, and running through a bunch of steps), but when specific types of patterns show up, ratios are a FAST and effective way to go. In this lesson, learn to recognize the clues in a problem that indicate "ratios" and then learn the 4-step process for attacking all ratio problems like a pro. All questions in this session are Discrete Quant / multiple choice.

I never comment, but this has been the MOST helpful video for GREs I have come across. I’ve never understood it this clearly before. The person teaching needs a raise. They are engaging, clear, and overall just phenomenal. Thank you so much for this!!

I calculated percentage questions like this 25% increase means 125/100= 5/4, and 1/3 decreased means 2/3 remaining. So we can set up an equation if Jan has X stock X* 4/5*2/3=100 X= 100*5/4*3/2 X=120 Percentage lesson in Manhattan 5bl.

If 1/2 of the number of coupes at a dealership is 1/5 of total number of cars, and 1/4 of the number of sedans is 1/8 total number of cars, what is the ratio of coupes to sedans?

I am just a student, so I don't if the answer is correct or not, any feedback is appreciated :- lets assume that total number of cars = 40 (later in the question need to find 1/5 of total and 1/8 of total so we choose 40 which is LCM of 5 and 8). Now, we are told that 1/5 of total number of cars = 1/2 of the number of coupes Therefore, 1/5 * 40 = 1/2 * c 8 = 1/2c that means c = 16. Similarly, 1/8 * 40 = 1/4 * s Therefore s = 20. Now, c : s = 16 : 20 Which is 4: 5
