Ola! Question for FAQ: with so many youtubers now having amp sims with their name on it, what are the chances of an Ola England signature amp sim? And, will we ever see some kind of guitar pedals (overdrive, noise gate etc) under the Solar brand?
Yea it makes me want to get into plugins. I use strictly tube amps as of now but it seems they are really freakin awesome but then u have to buy a whole shitload of stuff to b able to play plugins.
I don’t even have that “thing” to connect my guitar to my pc 😭 And my amp SUCKS (that’s what you get when you live in argentina everything is overpriced)
I am not a musician, I never played guitar in my entire life.. I don’t even really knows what an amp is.. ut yet I can’t stop watching Olas videos. One could say I have to much time left over in my life.. but I don’t.. I just find them entertaining and interesting and Ola is funny as hell. Who knows.. mane he will make me buy a guitar one day and become frustrated that I can’t play the most simple riff even
The first time u play a proper D CHORD, u'll never put it down, besides monoprice has a great strat clone for under 100$...it sounds amazing right out of the box, promise, do it bro
@@holierthan Dude you can make impulse responses with 2 programs. You don't even need the equipment, just a sound sample. You can literally go to guitar center, find your gear, record it, and make your own that way. Easiest way would be to isolate tracks from a song and just get the IR from a song.
Never really understood why people sell impulse responses... A kid can make an impulse response with a pc lmao 🤣 😂 😆 Not to mention people selling their HX Stomp presets... people come up with all kinds of bs ways to make money. Only truly lazy people need to buy them honestly. Plenty to start with for FREE.
@@paulwhite7125 thats how i feel when i see people asking to buy presets for things like the helix. why spend 1500$ buying a piece of gear with unlimited power only to NOT learn how to use it?
@@blumpkin69ish Not only that, people actually sell their presets. It's not hard to make a tone. Just put it out there if you want people to enjoy it. It's not like you spent hours of hard labor to make one tone.
the emissary was the first plugin that i've ever tried; i couldn't believe i could sound so much better with a virtual amp, damn i was young and stupid
Emissary is probably my favorite free sim out there, it also includes extra controls on the back, like changing the power tubes between 6l6, el34 and kt88
Plug-ins are fuckin incredible sorcery. I just got into that whole thing in January and I feel spoiled cuz there's so much good shit to try right now and the quality is great
Ignite (makers of Emissary) have a ton of other great free plugins - another guitar amp, a tube power amp, a bass amp, 2 tube screamers, an FET drive and more. You can have a whole great sounding rig for free. Audiority also has a free Precision Drive and a Marshall Lead 12 emulation. Shift Line has a number of good bass and guitar IRs for free too! I've shown off a number of them in my videos and like using the free stuff whenever possible. I like that Ola included the tube screamer eq "trick"
Le Pou Recto is still one of the greatest Rectifier Vst's out there, which is incredible given how long they've been out tbh. You should check out the Vadim Taranov vst's as well, he has done models of so many legendary high gain amps and they all sound awesome.
I needed this video. As someone who just had their jam space stripped from them to put in a home office, I've been looking into plug-ins for practice with headphones. Thanks, Ola!
@@JobForAMaxboy no joke. And hide your credit cards because you get tempted to make purchases and it gets expensive with all the available plug-ins now
A notable mention as far as free od plugins go is audiority's dr drive, probably my personal favorites, which is based on the one misha mansoor... awesome vid! And takk for the impulse!
I love the free roots amp, I use it for all seven string stuff I record with my own responses. Probably my favourite fake amp after the mercurial reaxis which isnt free but is amazing. Plug ins have made life so much easier when recording demos or even tracks to be reamped later. If I had any advice it would be grab as many impulse responses as you can because micing cabs up well is very difficult and inconsistent and some free responses are absolutely incredible and obviously bedroom friendly.
Ola, try Nalex Cruchman. That one is stupidly good and free. Also, I just love how you started playing All Against All from The Haunted which THE ONLY song I currently remember to play from start to finish. I already have the Emmisary VST and I am eagerly going to abuse the amp settings and that IR for this song in particular. You have made my day. :-D
Got the roots earlier today actually, They have added more IR's and a section where you can load your own ones like the StevieT one... You can even adjust the mic position in the Roots IR section. Been using Emissary for years, never knew there was a new one! I'm a year late, but thanks for the video :D
Secret: double your snare track and use the mercurial OD on it (with a gate if it’s too noisy or if you want to isolate the transients). Then layer it to taste (start at around -12db under your regular snare track and go up or down to taste) It REALLY makes your snares SMACK. if anything ruins a mix imo it’s not being able to hear the snare enough, it totally holds the groove together.
Finally you are demonstrating ml labs! They are really good imo. You don't need nadir to load your own it. You can do it in the plugin directly. Cheers!
Ola, thanks for the free plug-in tests. They all sounded very good. Could you please also test some free Bass plugins and drum software? Keep up being you and thanks for all the entertainment.
More videos like this please. There is so much awesome stuff out there for free. And good to see that you finally have ML plugins featured on your channel. They offer maximum chugs for the money imo.
My first E-Guitar will arrive tomorrow. Played acoustic guitar 15 yrs ago. Never to late to start with fresh 31. :D So you are just about right on time sir. If I keep it up my next guitar will be a Solar for sure. But first I need to learn all the amazing Megadeth riffs.
Ola, I'm super excited to get one of your IR's. Love your tone. One thing to note for other Helix users, the IR is too large for my Helix LT. I cut the tail off to make it ~ 200ms and that worked perfectly. Sounds fantastic! Thanks so much Ola.
Hell yeah thanks man 🤘🏻 I've been using your Hesu IR and Emissary plugin for a while now and it just sound killer. Can't wait to try out the Fortin IR🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻
Lost in the 70's has some cool plugin's I've been especially impressed with their bass rig called bass deluxe, for all you bassists out there or even tinkerers like me. The way it sits in the pocket with a very pronounced tone with minimal effort is what's so nice about it. I have to admit I haven't messed with much of their other stuff but if it's they are anything like the bass one they are probably worth a go or at least a look. I recently encountered one to stay away from also, Audified Amplion live guitar and bass bundle LE loaded my computer with all sorts of ads by altering my antivirus settings in a less than transparent or straight forward manner. This is a no no and a smack bottom. Not recommended. Plus it was a pain to set up in the first place. Not to talk smack just trying to save you all a headache. Took me a week to put all my stuff back they way I had it. Probably would be OK if you were using it on a stand alone device but if it's your go to device for everything it's not going to go well me thinks. If you take the fluff and Stevie T. ML rigs and pan them you'll be in for a treat, LOL Try it. :)
Thanks for the recommendation for the Ignite Emissary. I just threw that into one my mixes to to mess around with it, and it sounds amazing, especially when you blend it with other amps. I'm using a free 5150 sim that Glenn Fricker recommended on his channel on my left and right guitar tracks and threw this on the center guitar track with the "Lead Modern" preset just to mess around and it added life to my mix that I didn't know it needed. This is with the same cab on all of the tracks too.
Anyone doing this; DEFINITELY download NadIR into your DAW. You can make literally an infinite number of tones with impulse responses, as it lets you combine a right path and a left path with whatever IRs you want, can get some very unique sounds, highly recommend
Hi Ola, thanks for your IR in the download. I use it in combination with Waves PRS archon. And a drop G tuning on a 7 string sound pretty djent to me! The EQ trick before the amp sim is a real game changer! it really chugs! ;-)
Thank you for this. I didn't want to buy a DAW just yet as I am new to all of this. I did the 14 day trial for the Archetype Gojira and that was rad too but I can't justify that cost quite yet.
9:20 I swear is a Haunted riff. I like the Emissary stuff a lot, I've had good luck with that as well as AcmeBarGig Red Shift which is pickup emulation. Fun way to shape tone.
I have all of these and I love them. I really like the tones I get from blending the Roots and the 441 Modern preset in NADIR with Emissary and the Fredman Round NADIR preset.
Wow!! Ola you just opened some doors for me! I know I'm gettin' old (just turned 60) but will always be a staunch metal head. I didn't know this stuff even existed. Hell, I just got my first Marshall amp head that I'm pushin' through an '80s Fender M 80 4X10 cab. (sounds surprisingly good). This vid just made me a huge fan of yours! (only started watchin' your vids a short time ago). Thanx man! Will be watchin' a lot more.
Yes bro And the craziest thing about all this is that, if you know what you do, you can get the same tone from your kemper or better with them, and they are free plugins. Kemper charges you 2500 for a good tone, with emissary you pay with the production and mixing knowledge you have.
The noise is the only thing bad about the Emissary. Even putting a gate in your signal chain doesn't stop the buzzing as soon as you hit the strings. Maybe the idea is that the high gain will drown out the buzz. But it's always there in the back of the mix. But one very cool thing about it is that you can flip to the back and can choose what power amps you want and can adjust the bias, if you want to wring even more gain out of it.
Just wanted you to know that the dropbox link you shared isn't for Impulse Response, but for a waveform called Roadster Fortin 4x - but otherwise, this is a really really great video. I downloaded Emissary and Nadir plugins as well as Roots & Stevie T - really looking forward to some djentgod! thanks, brother.
@@butcher_0392 Although I'm not a fan of Emissary (not my cup of tea), it's nice to hear someone else acknowledging how poor Neural DSP and STL stuff is lmao. They're horrible plugins. Literally the outdated and free VST Amp Rack in Cubase has a better distorted tone, or the various free LePou and TSE amp sims paired with a free IR like s-preshigh.
The TSC by Mercuriall is always on my chain when i play on my pc, it sounds amazing. By the way i higly recommend the VST made by Nalex especially the later ones if you want some really good free amps
damn JACKPOT! these sound really great in the demos too wow. I will compare them to the ones I have from Amplitude, you can never have to many Mesa/Marshall cab emulators, each one speaks differently depending on the track. Funnily enough I have Emissary, but i never liked it before, maybe I need to tweak some knobs more.
No excuse to not get down and start producing heavy music if that's what you want to do, but don't have a full on 5150 or whatever. These plugins sound great out of the box and excellent even with a bit of tweaking and some good IRs.
I recently switched to an M1 mac so at 1st I thought I lost LePou, but I managed to get it to work thanks to Osiris Guitars. I also recently got into your channel, and heard you had DI tracks but can’t find them. I just thought that it was interesting you came up with this video, at a time I’ve been digging and searching.
If you're just after something to make a change from your usual rig, using freebies makes sense. Also, it's a good 'door' to whatever else is available from that vendor. Done that in the past before getting the full product.
Thanks Ola - I haven't played electric guitar in around 20 years (been fingerstyle acoustic) but recently returned - relearned to play with a pick and now lost in a quagmire of software plugins and apps - not a clue what I'm doing. It's nice to try some free ones to start with.
Ola I love the shiny RED Solar that you are using. I may have to buy ANOTHER Solar. I love the matte finish of my V 1.6 RD Artist but man the finish on the one you’re playing today is too HOT
Emissary is THICC, musthave for anyone who got their first guitar and it's easy to use, no bullshit useless settings, good sound. Just plug and chug the life out of your headphones or whatever
Heads up for anyone reading this, you can get the Soldano SOL-100 amphead sim free (to keep forever) as part of Amplitude-5 right now. It's kind of complicated how to get this sim, and like all complicated things, is deceptively simple. If you already have Amplitude-5, go onto the Custom Shop, hit the account name and then hit 'restore my purchase'. Congratulations, you now have the Soldano sim. If you don't already have it, download it from ikmultimedia .com and once everything is installed you should have the Soldano sim as well, no need to restore the purchase
Yeah man, the Emissary after all these years kick ass, same as the TSC 1.1 from Mercuriall. ML Soundlabs I cannot get a good sound out of, but your tones were pretty decent!
Try "Shredamp"... Dunno if you can get it seperately, but it´s included in most Mixcraft versions... Several Amps, Cabs, effects, adjustable room and microfones ... not bad at all
Free sims are great. Have a ton of IR's and Ignite's plugs, Nalex, Mercuriall and Vadim's freeware. I have lotsa paid shit too but honestly, I'm more creative with free stuff usually. Remember people, IR makes up the bulk of your tone. And modern freebies can get ballpark gain structure and tube sag and such. So glad that we have a heap of solid free plugs for guitar/bass that are simple and good for noobs but also powerful, and absolutely album-quality once you put the right EQ and IR on it. Cheers Ola. Great vid
