FREE WATER, I Installed a Pitcher Pump on an existing well head. 

I like that box.

We purchased a few acres recently and found a capped water well there. I plan to drill a hole in the cap and install a hand pump just like you did. I hope my plan works out!

Looks nice, but remember water and wood don't mix well in time. Maybe cover it up with a water sealant?

looks great. i was wondering if you were thinking about doing stone around it instead of wood? might be sturdier and more long lasting? but anyway thats great to have in the middle of the yard and i bet will inspire you to do more plantings.

Did you say five quarter boards, 5/4? Like an inch and a quarter or 1.25?

A week or so ago I had my well guy install a pitcher pump, with backflow preventer, teed off the pipe running to the well house where the pump is. I'm here in Florida and, unless that pump is covered somehow, all kinds of insects, frogs and oak tree debris is going to fall or crawl into the chamber where the piston rod moves up and down. The well guy didn't have too much of an opinion other than to note that, if covered, the cast iron would likely rust more. Any thoughts on whether it's necessary to cover the chamber and block the spout with a plastic bag between pumping it weekly to keep the seals wet?
