Nice! Sheet metal was the main work I did in SolidWorks, back when I was working somewhere that could afford the $1300 a year license. I remember how careful I had to be in Solidworks 97 because it was VERY easy to make the sheet metal unfolder break down and cry. They improved that a lot in subsequent versions. I had an entire library of PEM inserts and studs.
You may preffer middle line for a profile of a sheet metal part, but it makes very little practical sense and that's why it's not used in sheet metal industry(sure, there are exceptions). But it doesn't affect your demonstration, you've made a good job 👍 Unfortunately one of the most important subjects in sheet metal is adjustments to particular tools of your workshop, or even particular machine and toolset, since it may differ even on the shop floor. As it is now, all the dxfs produced by FreeCAD have to be usually postprocessed and adjusted (to get a precise product). It's a simple process that good sheet metal fabricators know well; rarely designer talks to fabricator and implements his tooling tables to prevent this. So it's good enough for initial design and rest for DIY.
Very good tutrial on Sheet Metal Addon. Thanks to you I saw limitatons of Freecd's Sheet Metal Addon maybe it will be developed to something like Solid like programs or like other programs :) You make very good tutorials keep on good work.
I'm new in this FreeCAD software but it seems to be very similar to CATIA, the software I normally use to work at companies but of course I can't pay for my private stuff. So I will try this FreeCAD, after trying Fusion360, that's not friendly for me.
That's a really awesome tutorial! Merci beaucoup, c'est très bien expliqué ! Would it be possible to make a video of a sheet metal truncated pyramid, and how to unfold it? I tried and failed every time, and I would love to know how to get tje unfolded sheet metal on that specific object!
Is this a render at the thumbnail of this video? I am trying to get a high resolution picture of my view gut so far everything looks just bad. any tips?
Hi. Thanks for making this video; it's very helpful. What's the name of the channel you recommended towards the end? It sounded like "All Visuals for You," but I couldn't find any channel by this name. Thanks!
Hey! I'm looking for an addon for freecad that works like cncKad software for 2d sketching, they have some features that are really great. like, creating parallel lines at a distance and pre defined nothes. If theres an addon similar to cnckad please do share.
When you add the extra bend (3:30 - 3:40) it shows up _under_ the (parent) BaseBend, as one would expect, being a subsequent feature. When I reproduce this the BaseBend becomes nested _under_ the fold, which is now the "parent". This is true for other tree features/work benches. How did you make it more logical? Is there a setting?
I'm making a part that has bends from angled sides and then has a return flange that needs to continue back along the original angle of the base. The first bends along the angled sides work out just fine but the return flanges return perpendicular to the angle of the sides and not along the original base. do you know if there is a way to do this on the sheet metal workbench. I'd love to see a video of that if you do.
Hello, when I do unflod - the sketch "lands" in a different place and orientation than unfloded 3d object - I am wondering if it's a bug or I am doing sth wrong - did you encounter this behaviour?
I’m trying to get to use sheet metal but every time I try to install and use the workbench I get an OS not specified error come up and the commands are greyed out. Is there a simple fix? Apart from this error coming up I’m really finding it very good; as an ex SolidWorks user it’s not too much of a transition.
