One time, this was in late 1990 in Washington state, i mentioned to an elders wife that I wished we could wear pants in field service. I was entirely joking and I only said it because where I lived, the winters were brutally cold and I could never find a dress that kept me warm enough in field service during winter- and she said and I quote (because I never forgot it): “You won’t ever wear pants unless you want my husband to haul you into the back room for a judicial committee”. When they made the announcement that women could wear pants, my mind immediately went to that exchange.

My uncle left years ago because he had a beard and he was given grief for it , I was only young then so still in the cult but I remember that my auntie n family just didn’t speak about it , we just knew as kids that that was why he didn’t come anymore . Brave man when I reflect now .

I loved it when the Grammar Goddess jumped in! One more person you have introduced to me. I thank you. I surely miss the sisters I associated with. Wish I could find them, and I wonder where they are to this day. Went to Mark Sanderson's congregation and studied under his mother. Baptized in February of 1989, married a brother for all the wrong reasons. Almost jumped off the Coronado Bridge 15 years later. I thank GOD for the CalTrans worker who called the cops. I really didn't want to jump because first, it would have devastated my parents, and more importantly, I knew God wouldn't want that, but I felt backed in a corner. It was a call for help, and God answered. I thank God I'm still here to talk about it. And I'm glad I'm JW OUT!

Spot on! Lady’s, you couldn’t explained our trauma any clearer than you lady’s. As a former JW brother, remember getting my privileges removed due to me shaving my head bald and I was looked at as a stumbling block to younger ones in the congregation which was ludicrous lol. We have to continue to be vocal. We need to be heard!

Speaking about being a huge note taker at conventions in 2018 the GB admitted that the programs are prepared 4-6 years in advance. That started my waking up because to me it meant those talks about urgency and Armageddon being just around the corner could not be the case! Not to mention in early 2020 when they announced the 5-6 year construction project of the media Center in upstate New York. Why do this if Armageddon was near?! Then they tried to justify it by claiming that the Center will survive Armageddon to be used to teach others about Jehovah in the new system. I nearly fell off my seat! One pioneer sister in the meeting commented that she was excited about having “unlimited” Bible Studies. It sounded so crazy to me! I decided that they’ve got to be kidding after all this time waiting to hug my Panda in Paradise I would be slaving away again in service. I hopped off the fence after that very meeting and despite the fact that the pandemic hit about a month later, I still faded and I decided if I made it out I would go and live my life! I’ve been feeling so free since then!

JW people have this erroneous idea that the GB sit around in their board room waiting for Jehovah to reveal his plans and inspire them via his Spirit. The GB fosters this ridiculous idea by constantly telling the rank and file that they are the chosen conduit of info from Jehovah himself and they reveal it to the flock as it comes in. I too recall a meeting or assembly where they admitted the articles are written well in advance of meetings and assemblies. I was surprised to learn this since the GB was constantly blathering about the end being so close, it was just around the corner and any day now! So I got the idea that it was all a smokescreen designed to fool us into a false sense of urgency. I remember reading about the org advising JWs to purchase “Go Bags” and stockpile necessities and wait for the signal to grab those bags and go…. GO WHERE!!?? Just sheer malarkey! Came across a statement by Martin Luther King that truly describes Jehovah’s Witnesses: “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

first off, no religion today is the "true religion." This is all man-made, and Christianity today is not the same as what was practiced back in the 1st century. when Jesus returns, he will teach us what the new faith is, and I can tell it's not the teachings of the JW.

As one of your guests stated, I too feel closer now to Jesus that I ever did in the 40 years as a JW. The reason is that I know the true and real Jesus now. I would like to offer some advice which I wish I had followed and that is when you get out, don't rush into another religion. I think my fear of the future after all the Armageddon and destruction programming caused me to think I needed to get connected to God through organized religion. I went to virtually every church that existed everything from New Age to non-denominational charismatic, to traditional and even Jewish. I finally settled on Roman Catholicism😂😂😂😂 and now jumping through all of the Catholic hoops I'm done with all of it and it's just me Jesus and the Bible. I don't want any more organized religions giving me a list of things I have to do in order to be acceptable, approved, or assured of salvation. Jesus didn't preach that and I don't truck with it myself anymore. So anybody reading this who's feeling conflicted don't be conflicted. Give yourself the grace to enjoy your freedom and if you really want or need spirituality in your life ask God to direct you.

I sure hope so. And not because I want to go back or feel a need to have contact with my old “friends” but my parents are entering their 80s and I would like to be able to care for them and their needs without it being so uncomfortable because I’m disfellowshipped. I have 3 sisters that are witnesses and they based off personality and past behaviors will not be the ones to be stepping up to take care of my parents. That will be me! I pray every day this changes I just want my parents back without compromising myself.

Hello Panelists! Thank you Lady Cee for this fantastic and impactful group discussion. Someone in the group made the comment that The Watchtower Society's [brainwashing] has taken away their member's individual ability to reason and make decisions on their own (my paraphrasing). I see now that's probably why some of who I would deem are the highly educated and intelligent persons, decide to remain in the JW organization.

Watchtower aka Bethel is making a killing on real estate that folks struggled to build donating their time, money and goods. Then the previous not giving back a dime to their people in times of need like Hurricanes, famine, etc. The only thing they care about are their numbers which are dwindling and their donations or money intake to keep Bethel afloat. So sad they are such greedy B*st*rdsl.

A Kingdom Hall built to look like an adobe building you’d find in Santa Fe sold about five years ago in my hometown in Canada for $3.2 million! It looked as if it could be converted to just about anything, even a restaurant. Which I think was Watchtower’s plan. Built by donated materials, donated labour and supported by enthusiastic JW contributors. Then Watchtower made all those changes in order to appropriate Kingdom Halls all over the world selling them and pocketing the money. Then Watchtower tells them this was a necessary move in order to build new KH’s to accommodate the rapid increase in people becoming new JWs!! People I know swallowed these lies and totally believed it even when the membership in the halls that were left began to decline!!

Awesome panel, loved every minute and scope of topics. Thank you for sharing your experiences. It still amazes me, after all these years, how similar our stories are. I grew up in Africa but every time I hear other people's experiences with JWs, it is as if we all grew up in the same congregation! No matter what part of the world. It is one of the craziest thing - I've found myself in so many other people stories it is sometimes mind blowing how similar we are.

Great discussion! As a Gen Xer we didn't have the internet with access about the JW. I left in 2002 but still thought it was “The Truth” until years later. I am not surprised there are so many fence sitters in the organization.

Hello Lady C and guests, that was absolutely mind blowing. It reaily felt like there is a wind of change is coming. My background, pre Witnesses, was to do with financial matters and so when our hall was having a referb a rep from the Regional Building Committee was this entailed and I asked, " what's the budget ?" his reply, " What's in your bank account?" The brother beside me nudged me and whispered" We don't ask questions like that".What ensued was a total disregard of dedicated funds. I am so pleased that you'll have a discussion that is going to follow the money. Thank you all for such an encouraging discussion.

The most important thing in this life is believing the biblical Gospel - repenting of your sins & wrongdoings, believing that Jesus is God incarnate who died and took the punishment due to you and I at Calvary & being filled with the Holy Spirit to live a life pleasing to God. It sounds like this lady is doing precisely that and has eternal life as a consequence. Jesus Christ of the Bible is the Way, the Truth & the Life. Follow Him to be fully conscious.

Jehovah’s Witnesses organization is a cult it’s not even Christian. They don’t believe in Jesus Christ, they believe that He is Michael the arch Angel. You sound bitter you need to repent.

The JW cult has one thing that is true and that’s the name Jehovah everything else is Not true. Study to show yourself approved rightly divided the word of truth. Watchtower even went as far left as to print their own Bible to say what they want it to say. there were people in the organization who were excluded/targeted because of their lifestyle. Their arguments to defend themselves against this exclusion is now the new light and doctrine. that's why people are now in doubt

I never questioned, daydreamer, never liked anything about the religion and what was required of me, answering, door to door etc.. That really hit me, I'm the very same way. I studied on and off for a lot of years. I never bought into the controlling aspect of this particular religion. Everything was considered wrong.I My personality was too inquisitive, outspoken, and analytical. I also questioned the totality of religion as a whole, and it didn't make sense. I was really clear that if I joined this group; I would be disfellowshipped because of my personality and background. First, because I am too outspoken. Equally, because my knowledge base was too diverse. Additionally, because I saw some duplicitous behaviors and unspoken politics that insulted my intelligence.

I've left JW since I was 23 years old and now in my mid-40s. There's no words I can use to express the joy of having a relationship with God and not living by a cults demands. JW switches its rules like no tomorrow and expect it's community to be understanding and gracious. They said the world was ending so many times and was wrong. They caused psychological trauma to so many by shunning and labeling you worldly. Who cries for the people who didn't have kids because they were waiting for the new world? Who cries for people who didn't pursue higher level education and are struggling financially? Who cries for the bethelites who gave up everything for a lie and now are in their old age without stability? Who cries for the ex witnesses who don't believe in God anymore and are living without purpose? God saved me, and he can save you, too. Trust and seek Him as He works all things for Good. Jesus is Lord 😊

@9:42 Daria! I too knew from early days of joining the that I was never going to be a good JW! I believe I first started waking up years ago when I was struggling with making good time in field service. One day I was encouraged by an Elder to record my informal witnessing time. I felt like I didn't need to do it because I didn't see why I had to time myself for having a casual conversation about my faith. It just didn't sit well with me at all for some reason! And you know what, I never did record any informal time. I preferred to be irregular than to do that
