Before I move on with my playthrough of Freedom Planet, I was asked to show what Carol's version of this boss fight looks like--I had gone through Trap Hideout using Milla where she has to fight 15 ninja motorcyclists and then Spade, and I pointed out that when using Carol, she has to fight 99 ninja motorcyclists. And Spade.
Well, here's what it looks like. I have no idea how anyone can go through a no-damage run of this, because there are so many enemies throwing attacks at you everywhere. It's like a bullet hell, except you're not flying around in the air. (Well, Milla can do that, but she can't fly indefinitely.) I had to basically use Carol's HP sponge status, with her much greater amount of HP than Milla, and then use the red petals the ninjas started dropping to keep her HP reasonably stable. When I was done with the bikers, I had a few lying around.
Which is just as well, because when Spade shows up, he's major trouble. Lilac can match him in speed, and because Spade fights only with projectiles, Milla can block every attack he has. Carol has neither of those. Spade's speed allows him to either outrun anything Carol can do or render it impossible to damage him without him damaging Carol back, making it something of a fruitless chase where razor-sharp playing cards are always hitting Carol because she isn't fast enough to outrun them, especially as Spade moves in relation to the player character's movements.
While I had gone through it normally, in this run, something clicked: I found out that, while Spade is very good at taking out Carol trying to chase him (I was able to get away with chasing Spade using Lilac in Sky Battalion, if you recall), Spade is a LOT worse at giving chase himself. Those jump pads on the floor are there for a reason: They allow Carol to create distance between herself and Spade, and he creates a lot of openings when he's the one running to Carol. It's still slow and methodical like with Milla, but it turns out to be much more reliable than I had initially assumed it to be.
