Bad Reputaion (Video Version) by Freedy Johnston (c) 1994 Elektra Entertainment, a division of Warner Communications Inc. for the United Sates and WEA International Inc. for the world outside of the United States.
If you get rid of the first sentence in this comment it'll be an awesome, heartfelt compliment that will let your main sentiment of appreciation shine!!
I saw him in about 1996 at first avenue in minneapolis....he came out and played this song first and then said "okay, there you go - most of you guys can leave now" LOL, I always loved that one.
I started to fall asleep last night, dozing off. I started to hear this song play in my head. Haven't heard it for years...why this came in my head, who knows?
For those wondering, Freedy is still living in Hoboken and playing in smaller venues throughout the city. I was lucky enough to see him in an extremely intimate venue (Guitar Bar Jr.) last fall and he was awesome. It was a great set and his banter was interesting and fun. Of course he ended with Bad Reputation. Awesome night all around.
This is one of those songs you can hear a million times and still love the hell out of it!! Everything about this song is perfect. Still sounds new and yet it's over 20 years old.
I'm so with you man. This song made me buy Perfect World made me get Can You Fly caused me to steal Never Home then Blue Days Black Nights...yep, I love FJ
@@thefutureofscience8365 LOVE this song(whole album, bought when 1st came out and still love), but you must not have been alive in the 1960's and 70's if you think 1994 was the best year ever for music! Just about every year between 1963 and 1975 were the best years for music, couldn't even pick one they were all so great...Sorry, but just a fact! 😎
I've been having a hell of a day, ready to snap, when "Bad Reputation" comes on RadioFreePhoenix, and all is well with the world again. Rock and roll soothes my soul. Ahhhhh. Thank you, Freedy.
So glad to have found Freedy Johnston after watching the Smart Studios documentary and hearing Butch Vig talk about This Perfect World. Such wonderful work 💕.
I love your channel name and avatar! :D Raven is my favorite fictional character and this version of her is my favorite. Sorry I know it's random but it's always a treat when I see another Raven fan!
Toured a lot in Holland during early 90's. Nice guy, friendly band, great songs, I remember the bassplayer, he did'nt play it, he rode it.. Freddy, call me..
The old guy is the (late) Richard Avedon, arguably the best photgrapher of people in the 20th century. How Freedy got him in this video, I don't know, but bravo! It makes a classic song a classic tie-in about exposing ourselves on many levels.
Looking in the crowd, your face is everywhere-Reminds me of a boy that lived around the corner from me. When I moved away that was how I felt. Don't you think I've heard the talk? Nobody's going to tell me who to love- He was older than me so it was frowned upon.
I Actually saw this video the one time MTV played it.And VH1 played it twice.Thankfully I loved it immediately.Later got the album "This Perfect World".I love that album soo much.Later got "Live At McCabes".some great stuff on there. And "Can You Fly" I love that album immensely.Freedy's a Great American Classic.I wish he was bigger but I feel privileged to recognize his talents & to listen to him. That's my baby!
I think this song came out in 92 or 93. I remember hearing it on an indy station in Colorado, and I went out and bought the album that day. The whole thing is great....
Great guy. great song. I met Freedy in Connecticut back many years ago. we were both playing near Chaney hall and staying at the same B&B. We talked in the parking lot for a while. He was such a good guy. wish I had a chance to work with him. Wonder where he is now. Such a talent!
this actually came on fm radio tonight. the radio is really one of the few good things about NC. I haven't seen King Pin in years, so I didn't even remember that this song was even in it.
I forgot how much I love this song. A jangly folky gem. A snapshotpostcard from the Aaa late early mid 90s... Love the black and white Fellini esque NYC imagery complete cast of characters. Part of the joy of it for me is the song feels like its always been there... Freedy just plucked it out of the seraphimic air fully formed for us to enjoy. And the vocals are so easy, he never has to sell it. Thank you sir for doing so, because it somehow makes me happy.peace.
Some say artists are allowed glimpses into the Akashic Record which, in theory, holds it all - for example, complicated math problems are only discovered, not 'invented', have always existed and always will
This song is simple, yet that's what makes it so full...a few harmonic notes capping off the lines in the chorus...I know everybody has a story, but I heard this sitting upstairs at a McDonald's facing Macy's NYC @ Christmas time, (that's Herald Square)...just me, coupla cheeseburgers, coke, fries...the usual few fellow humans in their own world, too...hey, I was born in 1958; I've got a million stories like this, yeah?...anyway, this song will never quit...and the video is most excellent too! Thanks, Freedy, for making them both!
One of my all time favorite writers and artists. Freedy is the MOST underated artist ever. I was a radio personality for 15 years and now V.P. for a record label for the last 4 years. I just wish there were more music like this.
Freedy you rule! Even death rockers and punks love this song! One of the best memorable songs that came out of the mid 90's, totally haunting yet so perfect! Recently saw the movie "Kingpin" on cable which is a favorite of mine and i love the scene where they play this! You are VERY underrated my friend! CHEERS!!!!
My parents had this on repeat many times while in the car...used to be annoying, but I just started to think about this song and how much of a good song it actually is!
I felt much the same way. Recently though, there are a lot of great bands picking up the torch of what was great about that era of left-of-center rock. Check out bands like: Pity Sex: (Songs: Keep, Burden You), Moaning (Songs: Tired, Artificial, Misheard) , Alvvays (Songs: Adult Diversion, Party Police, Dreams Tonight), Mitski (Songs: Francis Forever, Your Best American Girl, I Bet on Losing Dogs), Beach House (Songs: Myth, Lazuli, Beyond Love, Days of Candy, Lemon Glow, Girl of the Year), Our Girl (Songs: Our Girl, It's No Big Deal, Sleeper, Level). Preoccupations (Songs: Disarray, Espionage). There is always new good music if you keep listening, these are all new current bands that would have been comfortable in the company of the 90s greats.
