I've been a stylist my entire life. One of the biggest shocks when starting is realizing that what separates hairdressers is vision. There are people that never break out of the tiny box of set skills you learn in school and then there's the artists, which you cannot truly teach. I've been doing this since I got the basics of crocheting down and never knew there was a name for it. Almost all of my aragurumi I've made is freehand, shaping as I go from the vision in my head of what I want to make. So glad I found this video. Now I know I'm not just wasting my time.
My youngest had a teddy bear that went everywhere with our family, including the crosscountry vacation drive pulling a popup when son was a big manly teenager, because it just became a traveling tradition for the whole family. His arm attachments were becoming thin, so I crocheted a collared “rainjacket” around him that could be removed, but would add stability. Had no idea what I was doing, and it just flowed marvelously! I then made him a matching sou’wester rain hat and a green beret! Son was pleased. I barely knew sc from dc, so I guess it was free form! I’m hooked!
Besides the wonderful instruction of free form you have shown me basics that absolutely no one has before Example: the invisible stitch! I’ve been frustrated by all the knots
I feel that anyone able to this style has to be a genius. I can plainly see how it done, but my brain can't process it & I don't have a vision of.. what I could even do with it. Something about it is triggering my anxiety, you are an awesome teacher though!
Well, I have lot's of other patterns that you may like! This style of crochet is not for everyone and I bet you'd do really well with more structured crafts like knitting, needlepoint or cross stitch. I can't do those sort of crafts...I loose track of where I'm at, so not exactly a genius! With freeform, it doesn't matter, I can make it up 🤪😵🥴 Find what you enjoy!
You're welcome! I have a whole playlist on free-form crochet, you can check out the other tutorials as well! ru-vid.com/group/PLVxSmwID02OBSOOK2rrFs8VQybZisCqJA
Pozdrawiam Ewa
This is great!!! So wonderful to have this as a guide to a technique that I have wanted to try. You make it so fun and enjoyable to try. Thank you so much 👏🏻😊👏🏻
Well... you could! If you are interested in this style of crochet, I do have several other videos in this series: ru-vid.com/group/PLVxSmwID02OBSOOK2rrFs8VQybZisCqJA Enjoy!
Synthetics are horrific for shedding microplastics - a troublesome nearly forever material we have a nasty addiction to. This is not an indictment of your teaching, Teacher - but I find it nearly impossible to hold my tongue on homemade crafts using plastic, especially in fabrics that will receive a great amount of abrasion and fiber loss and microplastic shedding over its life; shedding into our own bodies and those of our loved ones, even the smallest of them - including pets… it’s the gift that keeps on giving right down the pipes from our washing machines, set free into an environment that actually IS learning how to deal with the synthetic material. Various worms and bacteria and other living systems can break it down - but not nearly fast enough nor widely enough. So it has to start with us. My thanks to you for inspiration on technique and being enthusiastic about teaching others how to make things at home. What about collecting and working natural fibers around us into yarns…? Say… cat hair? It can be carded and spun, right? Think of all the pet grooming places, all the surgeries that shave animals pre-op, potentially even fur from deceased animals, as some already do as a way to keep their pets close… thanks again for the instruction.
I want to crochet a coastal Salish salmon design! Or even a shawl with thunderbird wing design, PNW tribal art style. I would love to see this done as I am still very amateur with my uneven work!
Well, just practice the technique and then once you have the hang of it, you can use a drawing for inspiration. Crochet the sections in the color desired, using the artwork as a guide. I see you made another comment, but it is under someone else's and I can't find it now! Anyways, just be playful and have fun...
Thank you for this video, I really want to get into free form crochet, love the freedom of it! Are you going into the back loop of the stitches or the whole stitch?
I do go into the back loop for most stitches because that leaves the front loop to work into with raised stitches thus creating more texture. Some heavier stitches like clusters and bullions, I will work into both loops to give them more strength. I hope that makes sense. I'm not sure if you have found my whole playlist on freeform: ru-vid.com/group/PLVxSmwID02OBSOOK2rrFs8VQybZisCqJA
Yes, I am planning to do that, however, my husband just suffered a stroke and I can't do any videos right now. I hope to maybe have one up in a couple of weeks.
Thnku for replying back. Am so sorry about that news. Sending prayers from S Africa hope he will recover soon 🙏. Thnku it will b great Patricia! Kind regards 🌹
Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers...he is actually making a very good recovery and should be home from the hospital in the next day or so!
This video has been so helpful!! And freeform crochet actually makes sense now. Sometimes when I work in the back loop it stretches and makes holes is this normal?
You can work into the back bump behind the back loop. There are 3 loops in every crochet stitch, the front loop and back loop, which toghether look like a 'v', but there is the back bump that is often forgotten about. If you pick up that stitch as well, it will all be more secure. I think I show that somewhere...if I find it I'll come back here and leave a link and time stamp. :)
Ahh.... So most of what I do then is freeform lol... Ive been designing as I learn new stitches and rarely finish a pattern the way Im supposed to, I take the learned techniques and make something entirely new, like a bag from blanket stitches with using decreases to make cool little shapes around the edges.... And then always fail to write it down so i have no idea how I did it :DDD
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia As someone who drew dragon tails and angel wings on EVERY picture, or some assortment of animal/mythical creature parts, I have to heavily agree with you! :D
