Sharpening tools is an essential skill in woodworking with handtools and doubly important in a context like guitar building where you might be relying on those tools to create a finished surface rather than sanding the wood to its final state. At the same time the process itself is very simple and with a bit of practice very easy (though it can be tedious). This video is not intended as a comprehensive guide to all things sharpening, but instead as a primer on getting started freehand sharpening tools. Those sharpening jigs don't really make the process any easier, but they do make the process feel more daunting, and maybe a bit to exact (for my taste). This video is simply the basics of freehand sharpening and some thoughts on the basics of sharpening to get you started. I hope you enjoy and find it helpful.
