Ohloveeh good times huh? Check out Discovery Freelancer, it's kind of a good game, and it's quite similiar to the old Vanilla. Textures, ships and systems are always the same, there are even more ships and more systems, check it out dude.
I just got this game a few days back, and I am already so addicted to it that I can hardly leave it for school! The music is awesome, the combat is fluid and epic, the storyline is gripping, and, best of all, THE GAME NEVER ENDS!! WHAT COULD BE BETTER!!
As far as I remember, Starlancer storyline takes place from 2150 to 2165. Nothing tells you what happens between years 2165 and 2200. Coalition does very well in Starlancer. They seem to have upper in technologies. They build huge battleships, have stealth and jump capabilites while the Alliance only relies on squadrons of experienced pilots and thier ambush tactics. Furthermore, it is quite obvious even from official intro that Alliance was defeated, that's why they launched those sleeper ships
The Intro to Freelancer says the war had been running for close to 100 years which includes time both before and after Starlancer. As far as Starlancer showed the Alliance managed 2 recover from a near fatal blow and push the Coalition back...didnt win obviously because the war dragged on. The official intro to Freelancer doesnt say the Coalition won, just that they gained the upper hand...like they did at the beginning of Freelancer. The Sleeper ships were launched in fear of an endless war.
I've seen the extended intro video and I know what you mean, but frankly, that version of the intro makes no sense, opening up huge plot holes. I prefer this intro, the canon one, because it leaves the possibility that the Coalition is still out there somewhere, perhaps building an empire and will one day collide with the Sirius Colonies.
I really wanted a second Freelancer game, without the Nomads, in which the Coalition returned, looking to finally finish the war that started 800 years before
war was going for 100 years, no one remembers why. But 800 years after arriving in Sirius, they will never forget? Makes little sense, until one sees the extended intro (that got cut). It makes it obvious what it is they won't forget.
I think this version of the intro is better than the extended cut - leaving the fate of the solar system untold is much more fascinating. I often wondered what life was like on Earth under the Coalition...
Man... I miss this game, I palyed the crap outta it and its gone down into my books as possible the best or one of the best games I have played ever... may I add what the hell to not letting the music finish at the end of the video. Its probably why 4 people disliked or just baddies.
What I really wanted for a second game, was a massive invasion, not by the Nomads, but by the Coalition. I know in the extended version of the intro, they get wiped out, but that isn't cannon, so that means the Coalition is still out there somewhere
"To get away from the pregidous that has divided us for so long" yet each sleeper ship has one kind of people that will start individual civilizations that will be extremely suspicious of eachother. lol :P
i was so pumped to kick some coalition ass after the intro only to discover there was no coalition in game :) (the uncut intro leaked long after i played)
The classical situation may have arisen where the Dam'q vash created the Nomads and the Nomads turned on them, or the Dam'q vash fled beyond reach. Dont know.
@mecan79 Not demo, but intro. Well, can't find him in the IMDB (maybe you can check the credits). He voices gen. Atticus Rockford (his name is mentioned i.e. in the extended intro).
The original long intro showed that despite everything u did in Starlancer the Coalition kicks the Alliances arse anyway ant then...the Nomads appear and destroy the solar system. Luckily that intro isnt considered canon.
@x0xAdrianx0x Yes , you can get very heavy fighters in campaign mode. I always go down to the free port in Omicron Theta, and start there, they have the "Eagle" VHF I think it is. But use caution: Have alot of money saved before you go down here, cause it's easy re-buying shield batts, and nanos to run out of cash very quickly, from Corsair patrols attacking you. You have to pay off one of their middle men at the bar there. It's usually about 150k or so. Good luck!
The plot hole is not with the Nomads, but with the human ship that survives and follows after the colony ships. If this were canon, it would mean that the humans in the colonies had known about the Nomads for more than 700 years. Also we're told during the campaign that the Nomads were native to the Sirus sector and yet they failed to notice Humans on their doorstep for all that time. Frankly, I think a human enemy is always far more compelling than any bug-eyed gribbly monster.
Is too late to reply? Cos it would be amazing if the Sirians fought against a stronger, more authoritarian Coalition. You think 700 years the Coalies would just settle in the Sol system and not expand their empire, right?
Its impossible look at the youtube for full freelancer opening "sorry can't post url to it" and you will understand what i mean. But same as you i wished for second part of this nice game.
Reply to TEOKIAN, in case the reply bug's in effect: Actually, I thought it had everything to do with Freelancer. If there was no war in Sol, there would never have been an immediate need for the Alliance to send five sleeper ships to Sirius.
However I have to agree with that nomad bullshit. There are too many questions without answer. If they were able to find humans in Solar system, how is it possible that they didn't try to do anything against them for 800 years in Sirius? What happened to their uber weapons capable of destroying stars? In freelancer they had infest humans and destroy them from inside as they were militarily rather weak, which was also mentioned in the storyline.
I suppose they hit Earth that way was they occupied a single system. To try that again in Sirius when Humans occupy many systems would immediately cause the houses to mobilise and actual fighting to take place...
lollll okok here they say they launched 5 sleeper ships...but on the game, in omicron alpha, on the planet home of outcasts, the bar tander heard a rumor that a total of 7 sleeper ships were launched that day....only 5 maided to reach syrious system and the hispania was sabatouged wen he got there. sorry for bad inglish.
well i agree whit you human is man worst enemy ...maybe they assume wrong and Nomads are not native to Sirus after all... and the guy that sly after colony ship maybe he did not make it :P or humanity just forgot (you know ppl in power have a tendency to forget important events from the past)
Is there a way to get very heavy fighters in campaign mode?I don't get why we don't have acces to the best stuff . Trent wants a VHF and lvl 10 weapons !!
Pls cpuld somebody help me,i have installed freelancer, but when i try to play it it comes up a square and it says Free lacer does not recocgnize your 3d graphic card Freelancer may have trouble running Do you want to continue then theres a YES or No option i press yes the microsoft present comes but its like up is down and down is up and then screen gets pink and back to Windows, pls somebody tell me what the problem is do i need to do somethign withmy graphic card?Or my starnge windows?
Are u saying u prefer the long intro, which shows that what you did in Starlancer was COMPLETELY pointless plus gives most of the story to Freelancer away? Dude, this intro was much better.
hmm... there where a "Freelancer 2" (or a direct sechul to freelancer) but it was cancelled becuse the compeny that made it: "In November 2005, Microsoft redeployed the developer's employees to its Microsoft Game Studios headquarters. Digital Anvil was officially dissolved on January 31, 2006." i think i heard someting about "darkstar" for some time ago (i looked it opp now and are downloading a demo) but a HUGE minus..... the ting that made freelancer great... wheres the Multiplayer .
Freelancer was pretty good but I feel the X series is more so better than Freelancer only because they have better virtual markets and more realistic fleet composition/scale. Freelancer was more entertaining as a game though, but not necessarily a 'sim' in my opinion.
Actually the sabre from malta is better, its a much better looking ship, smaller target than the titan, and the turret can fire forwards and backwards whereas the titan turret can only fire backwards. Sure the titan has more armor but only a bit, shields are much more important, plus you save a couple hundred thousand credits with the sabre. In my opinion the sabre pwns the titan. Oh ai just finished modding my sunslayer torpedo to fire automatically and i can destroy bases now!
To be honest i don't see any plot holes i mean nomads come (to destroy humanity) soon after Sirius Colony ships fly away (so they miss some of the humans) and destroy Solar system (and when time pass they find that there are still humans out there that survive Solar System destruction but they are not in one place so they can't just blow them up like they did whit Solar System so they start working undercover to destroy them and here is where Freelancer begin)
