can you possibly do a more in-depth comparison with both pumps? for example the suction level, speed level, timers, etc? that would be very much appreciated.

I did this in 2019! I was worried about not having back flow protectors so I got an extra set of tubing and hooked one set to the cups and one to the pump and put the backflow protectors in-between. Thus also let the tubing come out of the bottom of my shirt instead of the top and gave me more slack!

I don't have Instagram... Wish you would have just told us how much you got from each pump. That would make sense if you're comparing them... Seems like you didn't really do a comparison ... All you did was tell us the spectra hack works. Wish you did a more in depth video because I really like you and your energy over some other momma's on here. More videos lady!

Thank you Allison, the suction is the same with Spectra S1 with caracups than with the regular flanges, and also with the Spectra S9

Thank you for this video!! Super super helpful. I ended up having to exclusively pump using an S1 with #1. Now that I'm pregnant with #2, hoping that won't be the case again... but if so, the Freemie cups would really be amazing!

Thank you so much for your videos. They are super helpful. Do you have any thoughts about using the Spectra S9 with the freemie cups? My insurance covers the S9 and it is portable, similar to the freemie pump. I thought it would be a good option for pumping while commuting and working. I also have a medela which I plan to use while at home. Honestly, I am a first time mom-to-be and I have no idea what I'm doing!

Hi Jennifer! You could certainly try the S9 and freemie cups as a portable option. If that was the ONLY pump you were getting, I'd be a little hesitant, but if you already have a medela as well then go for it! The S9 may not have as much suction power and then combined with the freemie style flanges (which have a bit of a learning curve), if you're pumping alot such as going back to work, I'd recommend a more traditional pump. But give it a try! If you find it doesn't empty you quite enough, you can bring along your Medela. Good luck!

Hi! Did you find that the Freemie 25mm cup was comparable to the 24mm spectra flange or are inserts needed? Also was your volume comparable when using the Freemie cups?

I followed the link in the info for the comparison between the milk output and it did not work. Do you remember if the output of milk was similar or very diffferent? Trying to decide if I am going to get the freemie independence pump this time around or not. TYIA

It looks like hospital grade Medela Symphony is a closed system. Any idea if this version of the Freemie Cups (Next Generation) would work with them?

Yes you can. Just get the Medela compatible cups, there’s a link in the description :) EDIT: Swing pumps are NOT compatible with the freebie cups. freemie.com/collections/freemie-cups-for-your-pump

Closed system is better, but can only be used with a closed system pump like the spectra. Sorry for the confusion!

Do I need to purchase backflow protectors and tubing kit for spectra 1 and freemie closed system cups? Did you use all that (protectors and tubing) in this video?

No back flow protectors needed 👍🏼 most cups are closed system anyway.

I am thinking about buying the independence pump on their website but I also want to use the same cups for my spectra. It says that they are closed system cups but are they compatible with the spectra? I don’t want to buy extra parts if I am going to spend $150. Since you have the liberty one do the tubes and cups fit on spectra or did you buy the cups separately?

Thank you for your video. It's very helpful. How did the amount compare together? Did you get more from the Spectra with the cups or the Freemie motor with the cups?

I couldn’t give you an accurate answer there since I had weaned my little guy at this point, but I think both motors were great and similar in power and options. The question would be, do you want to be completely hands free with the clip on pump? Or would just the cups attached to the Spectra be enough for what you’re looking for? Let me know what you decide! :)

@@NewLittleLife I have a couple sets of the Freemie cups, one Freemie Liberty motor, and a set of the Ameda Finesse. My Freemie motor died on me after three months using it. I'm so so sad. With the cups, I always have to set the Ameda or the Freemie motor to theirs strongest suction and slowest frequency. The Spectra has a unique three step suction. I thought it would not be strong enough to empty my boobs with the Freemie cups. Also, it's painful to pump with the Freemie motor and the Ameda.

@@mehakhussain8948 It depends on how much you would want to pay for your freedom. The Freemie motor has one year warranty. It's really really nice to feel so free to do many things. I went back to work and use it to pump at the nurses' station while I'm charting. For me, it's worth it to ease the stress from work and worried about pumping. However, if I were at home or went to school, I would just buy the cups. Let me know how it goes for you.

Krissie Ha l am thinking about buying the independence pump but I am not sure if the cups will fit my spectra without having to buy the other connecting kit. I stay at home now but I still like the freedom of getting to move around the house and do chores. I was looking at the reviews and some people were saying their breast got cuts and they were bleeding so I am a little scared now. Thanks for your input.

Personally, I would do the Spectra pump (covered by most insurances) and get the freemie cups on the side. Without the motor, just the freemie cups are pretty reasonable. Best of both worlds there! Or put the cups on your registry or something :) Really though, both pumps are very good.

What freemie settings would you say mimic the spectra “bacon”/expression mode (70/1-5). My freemie doesn’t empty me and I think it’s cause I can’t figure out the settings ☹️

Try a lower speed so you get higher suction. One of the 3 slowest speeds and suction 4-7. Give it a try and let me know! You can also set them to memory if you find one you like :)

Okay but could I hook up the spectra flanges pumping into bags with the portability of the freemie pump? I really wanted to be able to pump into bags to insert them right into bottles, but portability is so important with my job.

You can pump straight Into bags with the traditional flanges on the Spectra, but it’s not the most portable. You can’t pump directly into bags with the freemie, but it’s super portable. You could pour the milk from the freemie into the kiinde Bags and those go straight into a bottle.. or you could use the traditional flanges and pump into bags with a portable pump like the baby Buddha or Spectra 9, but it’s not discreet if that matters.. couple ideas there.

Ftm, due mid April. I may end up going back to work early, so I wanted to get the best pumping setup possible, just ordered the s1 plus and the Freemie compatible cups arrived today. I thought the need to boil the hard parts to sterilize and fit was kind of odd, though.

It’s likely just to sterilize them since they are straight from the factory. Get all the packaging chemicals off. You won’t need to do that every time.

I think it’s because with traditional flanges you have to hold them to your breasts unless you buy a pumping bra. This you can place in any bra/tank top without having to hold the flanges or buying a special bra.

I would lean toward the Spectra. I don’t think the freemie cups work as well for what you need. For occasional pumping or for the drive to work, absolutely!! But for what you need? I’d go with Spectra personally. You can probably get a Spectra through your insurance and then just get the freemie cups, they’re cheaper with just the cups. Hope that helps! I’ll post that review link here when it’s out next week!

Hi Allison, I'm expecting another little one and so I have an option of getting a new pump with insurance. I already have a spectra (about 2 years old-- rarely used) and am thinking of getting a freemie this time and use with it so I can be more hands-free and hopefully pump more. Do you think that's a safe bet, or would the spectra at this point need to be replaced? Thanks!

If you are using the regular pumping parts why don’t you use a hands free pumping bra? Or just an old sports bra with holes cut out (I prefer this one, plus way cheaper)!

That’s certainly an option, the benefit of the freemie is you can slip it under your shirt with nothing sticking out visible! You could pump in a room full of people if you wanted :)

I EP'ed for a year. I had the hands free bra and later the Freemie. The hands free bra wasn't as immune to bumping and was cumbersome overall. I hugely preferred the Freemie. I could walk around without worrying about bumping parts or covering parts. I could even hold baby with the Freemie --much harder with the hands free bra.

It is definitely not made for that and not ideal. You’d need to put the backflow protecter in the tubing link for sure. Maybe check the freemie website for that question, because I’d hate for you to ruin your pump by getting milk in it!
