I'm a Grady baby, went to APS schools until 9th grade, then Dekalb County schools until graduating from high school. When I was growing up the 5 county metro area consisted of Fulton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, and Clayton counties. We knew Fulton was the county that covered most of Atlanta. Part of Dekalb county is in the city limits of Atlanta as well. Going down I-20 East you cross into Dekalb county at Moreland Ave. Many of the prominent people and regular, decent hardworking people moved from Atlanta to the suburbs when I was a teen. I think we as a people have bigger fish to fry than worrying about who is technically an Atlantan between people born in the metro, and those who were born within the actual city limits of Atlanta. Many of the people in these other counties moved from Atlanta proper to a suburb of Atlanta. I think it's great that the metro has expanded to more counties. That means that there are more people whose gifts, skills, and talents can be used to benefit our communities.
