Remember guys, Freesync also works with NVIDIA GPUs, while you can't use G-Sync on AMD ones. And, if you see tearing in the bottom of the monitor, freesync isn't working properly also :D Let me know what you think about this video!
Important to note for gaming TV users like me in particular lol: 10 series or higher Nvidia can use Freesync over display port only. Only AMD cards can do Freesync over HDMI.
Have you ever tried FreeSync + FPS limit -2/3 refresh rate (so 141/142 for 144hz, which I know you do. Use Chill with 142 min/max OR RTSS 142 limit, both work fine for me.) AND V-Sync ON. THIS solved all of my problems with ANY driver and I don't get bottom screen tearing anymore. Try it out if you haven't already! V-Sync ON only works in-game as the driver V-Sync only works for OpenGL, but you propably already know all of this :) Great great channel , you deserve more attention, keep it up! Edit: in the mentioned scenario, V-Sync will only allow for frametime compensation to work and so to eliminate the tearing, but it will NOT introduce lag since the fps cap prevent the V-Sync to kick in. Edit 2: all this is valid especially when your game often exceeds 142/144 FPS (in this case), otherwise the FPS cap would not be necessary BUT V-Sync will still help with tearing. Ya brother i too have lots of tearing issue with my 5700xt in 20.9.1 version i am using display port? Freesync works perfectly in display port or HDMI?
@@AncientGameplays curious, did they sent some? really good explanation, opened this just to check whether you know about the additional input lag which freesync provides and you did knew about it, so nice job :3 , but yes Vsync is much more painful, if let's say freesync and gsync can add as low at 15~20ms, and enhanced sync as low as ~35ms , Vsync can add 80, 120, and in some super rare cases even a whole second (so far saw such a disaster only in 2 games, one was some random indie horror game, another one was some alpha game with minecraft-like textures) , ,never tried nvi's fast sync but i assume it adds around the same ms as the enhanced sync of amd ^the following numbers are heavily based on the game, but that gives the rough estimate, assuming it will be helpful to the peeps which may read my comment from personal findings for cfx users - enhanced sync can remove 99%* of the stuttering in some games which have the stutter on every movement/camera movement , freesync can not * - by 99% i mean that instead of every movement/movement of the camera it will happen like once a minute or two also rivatuner statistics server tool have it's own kind of the "boosted vsync" with the name of scanline sync, i once tested it and was pretty happy with the results, but kinda forgot what they were
Also, many monitors have an on screen framerate counter that tells you exactly what the frame rate is on the monitor side. If that is in sync with the game fps, than freesync/gsync is working.
@@AncientGameplays great video very informative. Just one question. If you have above your monitors refresh rate in fps at all times, does freesync matter? I always have it enabled except in csgo because I don't think it's necessary right? And it adds small input lag no?

Just got a 6800xt Pulse and a G27Q, latest drivers (22.3.1) and using radeon chill to limit 141 fps with V-sync off. Freesync works great, this guide is awesome. THANKS!
Fun fact, only with the latest driver, Freesync finally works with my GTX 1070ti place holder and my new b550 system! The LG 34UC88 that is my monitor, woks with every Radeon card I've ever used. Never had a Navi 1 tho... The loading screen flickering is always there, with whatever card.
Awesome job on the explanation, finally got my black screening sorted, just a heads up, somehow my monitor settings glitched. I have multiple monitors, if I gamed on my 2560x1080 freesync monitor it black screened, always thought it was the driver. Then I used my other monitors as main screen for gaming, no issues. Reset my freesync monitor in the monitor setting, worked like a charm. Then enabled freesync, works like it supposed to now. And congrats on the free stuff from AMD, its nice to see AMD cares about the little guy! Well deserved!
nice video! I recently realized also that I was getting tearing sometimes because I didn't cap the fps below the refresh rate. There were times there was no tearing, there were times that there was tearing.
I had problems with (broken) freesync since 20.4.2 - 20.10.1 2 days ago i got my new 144hz monitor with freesync premium and surpise; freesnyc works perfect now (no tearing in the bottom of the monitor)
Last week I picked up a Viotek 34” ultrawide Freesync monitor and had horrible stutters no matter what I done on a particular game (it happened to be my favorite game). I lowered the refresh from 100 to 75Hz and enabled Freesync on monitor, and enabled Vsync and Gsync in Nvidia control panel. I now have smoother gameplay than I’ve ever had locked at 75 FPS (100 hz caused some flashing in game) and surprisingly no additional lag, which I was worried about. I’ve also been able to run higher graphics than I ever have. I know that Viotek isn’t listed as one of the 12 approved monitors, but I’m shocked at how well it works for me.
Thanks Fabio this is exactly how I try to use it and it was nice to confirm this is how it’s used. Btw certain games like fortnite imo only work well with higher frames due to FPS drops. So for that game I turn freesync off and run at 160 FPSon my 144. A friend of mine has a 240 and he can set freesync on fine with the frames capped to 237. Seems like the title can affect the effectiveness of the feature. Thanks
for games like valorant or fortnite and other light titles, my gpu can push over 200 fps. my monitor is 170hz, shall I turn freesync on for those games or leave it off, and when I play single player games like control and stuff I turn it on, since GPU can push 70 80 fps on those?

I just want to add that Freesync 2 is no longer what the standard is called. It is now known as Freesync Premium and Freesync 2 HDR is now known as Freesync Premium Pro. So just to be clear it is as follows : Freesync, Freesync Premium, Freesync Premium Pro.
Hmm... So to find out if FreeSync works or not we have to rely on our subjective feeling whether there is tearing/stuttering or no. Not really reliable if you ask me. Aren't there any tests that clearly indicate "Yes, FreeSync is working" or "No, FreeSync is not working"?
I mean, it is not subjective. If tearing exists you can clearly see it.....also, there are some tests like the ones i show in the video. Nvidias pendulum tests, and that windmill test in the video
I understand you have to cap your max framerate -3 hz of your monitor but how do I set its minimum framerate from Radeon Chill? Let say my monitor refresh rate ranged from 40-75 hz (LG 24MP59G), so should I put 40 on minimum framerate or can I put lower than that? Thanks in advance!

Please correct me if I am wrong, freesync will not lock the fps to match your monitor max fps and will on the other hand reduce the input lag, eliminate screen tearing, and make the experience much smoother...?
Do i need to turn on freesync on both the monitor and AMD software my laptops graphics card is not supported but it shows AMD freesync on my samsung curved monitor and AMD software shown as display 2 my laptop has AMD radeon RX vega 10 graphics
Just to add to watch the minimum FPS count in order to stay on the freesync range. My monitor has 48 as limit so if you drop below it it will stop working. And yeah my monitor isn't so great 48-75 FS range, but my 1070 made it work even worse. Randomly and with a lot of issues. With amd everything works smooth since I swapped the nVidia, mostly because of this.

I know it's all smooth when your freesync is on but different between 75fps and 144 or more fps depending on your pc are huge advantage In shooter games I got decent pc but my monitor is bad only 75hz

Do you have any videos measuring the actual latency? I can't find anyone with a solid AMD video testing latency and input lag with various freesync settings, Radeon Chill, framerate caps, vsync, vsync+freesync+radeon anti lag, etc.
@@AncientGameplays like your playing at 150+ fps and on certain ocasions the fps may drop to 110/120 and you lose that smoothness, does it really help not noticing the fps loss or just the screen tearing ?

Hi bro! u gave me an answer before but i'm Still having doubts ... let me explain it. I have a gtx 1050ti and a Acer Monitor 165hz with Freesync Premium also compatible with gsync.. but im kinda confused cuz i dont know should i have gsync + vsync on (Blurbuster web site says this shouldn't have imput lag, but it does) so i don't know if should i let gsync on + vsync on for me is smooth but when i use vsync off the imput lag is gone but sometimes is kinda stutter ... what should i do?
What is the better option between "Free Sync Enabled and Capped at 140 without Enhanced Sync" or "Free Sync Disabled and Capped 10% below drops while still able to produce double FPS to refresh rate with Enhanced Sync". Both options work most of the time while the Free Sync Enabled option has lots of Display Frame Drops to numbers like 127fps and the Enhanced Sync feels like it has micro stutter while the frames run 'stable' at 288+ fps.
@@AncientGameplays After a lot of trail and error I can say that I do agree that freesync runs A LOT better when the frames are limited the right way. I've had tearing with the in-engine limiter set to 140 or 143 turns out that the engine had a config value "FullScreenRefresh = "144"" that had was slightly higher than the 143.981 Hz that my display can show and that was why I've had to use enhanched sync. Now the config is set to the right values and the enhanced sync is disabled I can notice faster mouse inputs and the clear vision without tearing is absolutely amazing! TOP TIP: Make sure that your free sync range is wide wide enough depending on your gaming situation. For Example: For months I had my monitor set to normal free sync, where the range was only 120-144fps. Little did I realise that I could toggle it to EXTENDED FREE SYNC on my monitor which had a freesync range of 48-144fps! Much better gaming experience!
As we're on the subject of freesync, does anyone know if the new gpu's from AMD and Nvidia that have HDMI 2.1 support actually work with tv's that support VRR or do they only work with tv's that support freesync? I ask because I wouldn't mind upgrading my tv as I use it for gaming and with the next gen consoles coming out that support freesync and HDMI 2,1, I suspect they will work with VRR on the newer tv's so I suspect it should for the new gpu's as well but can't find any info on confirming if they work with them. Basically, I don't want to buy a new tv and find out it doesn't work with the new gpu's lol.

@@AncientGameplays Thanks for the fast answer. It's strange, because freesync works ideal in shadow of the tomb raider and AC odyssey, but in fifa 21 replays became a bit laggy and in sinking city just nothing happenes (game is shit in optimization on any settings). r5-3600+rx5700xt+16ram-3400cl14
@@AncientGameplays looks like sinking city was permanently locked on 60, doesn't matter what you do...and yeah, a lot of stutters (60-40-60-1-60-45-20-60)
And what is the purpose of "Enhanced V-SYNC"? As it works with both Freesync and non-Freesync monitors. Could be a Freesync "for the poor" if it is used on a non-Freesync monitor? I personally use it with "Anti-Lag" and it seems to work fine.
Enchanced sync, is an "improved" V-Sync let's say and can be used above screen's refresh rate, but although it will avoid tearing, it won't be near as smooth as freesync (in its range)
Amd chill, nvidia max fps, rtss, they all add latency when fps limit is set. It can add up to 20 ms @60Hz, 5 ms at @240Hz. Its recommended to use ingame fps limiters.
