Concerned over the 4x4 posts, should have used 6x6. There's going to be a lot of weight or those posts. Consider adding additional 4x4s midway between existing ones. A heavy snow will collapse the deck the way it's supported right now. also add cross braces between the posts

You need to start using usen hard woods for better longer heat and stop using cedar it will plug the chimney and could cause a fire u could mix it with hard wood during the day but night time all hard wood and more solid logs less split at night and always keep damper mostly closed less starting new fire thought this might help y'all luv your show

It's only my opinion but I have 48 years of wood burning experience. Your stove is working properly, if you get five hours per fireing. If you damp it too much you're just gonna plug the chimney. I live in southeast British Columbia and we get some very cold days. My fire routine is fill the fire at 9 pm go to bed. I get up to check it at 2 am -4 am from there it makes it to 8 am - 10 am. I fill the fire six or seven times per day. The damper is a bimetal coil type and I don't need to adjust it once it is set properly. It is set fairly hot so the chimney stays clean and the fire lasts 5 hours quite easy. We use fir wood. Hope this helps. Best regards.

Congratulations on moving in! A fireplace heats up the bricks or rocks and they store heat, adding a brick backing to your wood stoves back wall would do some radiant heating. Known as damping down, you add a layer of ashes over the red hot bed of coals. Then add your yule log, a large generally unsplit hardwood log, then add cut wood as tight as possible. It takes a couple of weeks to get it right. Do not get discouraged. The flue damper is important as well as the stoves other vents.

Hey guys, if you want the fire to last longer you need to close off the flue damper as much as possible. Limiting the intake air is only half of the equation. Make sure your flue damper has a tensioning spring to keep it at the desired setting and keep trying intake and flue damper settings until you get a longer lasting fire. Cedar is not the wood you want to use for a long night. Ash or oak and make sure the wood is seasoned to cut down on creosote in the flue. As a matter of science, pulling air is always better than pushing air and faster air is always cooler than slower moving air. By having a jacket around the fire and pulling the heated air away you get a more efficient distribution of heat gain with a smaller fire. Just like when your soup is too hot you blow on it, the fast moving air cools the soup. Turn your ceiling fan on low to push air up towards the ceiling and the air will hit the wall and move down then move the heat past the wood stove. 60% of your heat is going up the flue and 20% is trapped at your ceiling. Use of a digital thermometer will allow you to do small adjustments to regain heat and use less wood.

Listen to this person. I heat 1800 sq ft with an airtight wood stove...you need hardwood for sure. If you can't find oak/madrone or other hardwood look for Idaho Energy Logs. They are a compressed sawdust log with NO glue stuff, so they need to be stored dry...but...hardly any ash, lots of BTU's and great fire. Split the softwood for kindling, use it to get the hardwood/energy logs going....stay away from the duraflame crap or any other log with any glue...it'll muck up your stove pipe...

you need to put nice round pieces in and yes turn it down to slow-burn and it also has a lot to do with what kind of wood your burn so wood is harder and last longer and it will just take some time to figure out what works best for you but it great your working on the deck you do need rails on it so no one falls and I am glad you moved in

I think your wood is the problem your fires aren't lasting. Cedar is basically a softwood and will burn quick. For a long-lasting fire you need hardwoods. Originally from back east, so we always burnt oak, cherry, and maple. With a good stove and proper air easy to have fire last all night. Since moving to Southern Utah, no need for a fire so I don't know what is considered hardwood out here - maybe mesquite?
