A nasty rainy day at the north marshaling yard: The station, which is located in the districts of Moosach and Feldmoching-Hasenbergl, was put into operation in 1991 and is one of the most modern marshaling yards in Germany. It replaced the former Munich East Rbf and Munich-Laim Rbf marshaling yards.
The station consists of five track groups with a total of 40 directional tracks. Trains can leave the southern directional group directly, trains from the other four groups must first be brought forward to the exit group.
The uphill and downhill brakes are beam track brakes, the directional tracks are equipped with rubber track brakes. Directly behind these are the clearance zone from which the cars are pushed by small trolleys.
On several bridges over the station you have a good view of the action: A lot of shunting, but also through and exit traffic can be found! A class 290 688 - 1 is working tirelessly and pushes freight cars by freight cars down the roll-off hill. For a wagon train, the diesel locomotive needs between eight and nine minutes (shortened to about half in this video).
