What I did I cut the tank and left the bolts on there with some plastic around the bolts from the old tank. Than I drilled the new tank out where bolts will go, I made the holes little bigger to go over the old bolts on radiator and drilled few new little holes on new tank that is sitting on plastic from old tank close to bolts and zip tied them together by both bolts.

Thanks for your video, I tried it all and at the end I used cordless impact wrench from harbor freight for 5-7 minutes to spin the bolt with insert constantly pushing up with flat screwdriver finally it got hot and plastic around insert either grinded or melted away and came off

What sz impact did you use

I've done the same thing and broked my radiator top side and had to replace it I heard there is an easier way to do it you just have to use a torch and heat the bolt until the plastic gets a bit loose and then remove the bolt .

Thanks alot for it . I was planning to change it but now i know what to care about.

Another option when removing the bolt is to get your impact on the bolt like you're trying to remove it and let er rip in reverse. It will heat up the plastic enough eventually to make the removal a bit easier. That there is a great tip. I've replaced maybe a few hundred of these surge tanks.

@@johng30 try soaking the top bolts that connect to the radiator in wd40 for 15 minutes first. Hopefully the bolts come out no issues for ya. Gl

I like how you subconsciously flipped off the engineers that came up with the design in the first place at the 5:00 minute mark.

The side cap on the overflow tank?. Do you tighten it, or leave it lose ? Thanks in Advance . Good video
@mattnewman6219

It should be tightened. What a stupid place to put the radiator bar though huh?? LOL

@@mattnewman6219 I know! ... I just found out my 2018 Freightliner Classic, is throwing codes, but nothing's wrong however it takes forever to get into a dealership! Any tips would be greatly appreciated number one..... and it's amazing how hard it is to keep your business rolling

@@mctransport1954 not sure. These things seem to throw codes for everything! I guess I'm kinda lucky because my truck will display the code spn on the dash, buddy of mine has almost same truck and his won't show codes??? Good luck with it.

Do you have an idea of how much changing it should cost me to have someone else to do it? Thanks

Update Please guys be careful, because I did this and I ended up taking it to the dealer to put a new radiator, and what I did is when I use this method to get the insert out with the slide hammer with all the beat to get the bolt out I cracked the top plastic cover of the radiator and after I put the new bolts and the JB Weld everything was fine and no leaks but when I got on the road for about 40 miles I got the shut down message on the screen and I stopped and it was coolant every where, My advice not to beat the bolt and the insert with the slide hammer find another way to get it out like heating it up or grind the surrounding of it or something else, the slide hammer did not work for me

Next time use an impact wrench and it will spin the bolt until it is hot and then it will pop out.
