This week, we're in the Loire Valley, in the grounds of the region's most recognisable castles: Chambord, where construction began five centuries ago. This Renaissance masterpiece was conceived as a hunting lodge for King Francis I, who used it as a potent example of his power and prestige. Never to be completed, the edifice was altered repeatedly during its construction, then later looted and abandoned, before being restored to become the tourist magnet it is today. We tell you more.

I visited the exterior of the chateau on a group trip. We didn’t go in because our tour guide basically told us that the inside wasn’t nearly as grand as the outside, and purchasing tour tickets wouldn’t be worth it on our tight schedule. I’m glad I’m finally seeing the inside.

If you referring to the Disney version ... there is definitely a similarity there ... I’ve been there in person ... the main difference the castle isn’t as tall as the Disney version.

Yes. A great hunting lover, King François I (1494-1547) had Chambord built as a hunting lodge located in the heart of the Sologne, one of the largest forest estates in France. The current private estate of Chambord is the largest in Europe (50Km2). François was the most emblematic king of the Renaissance in France. He is at the origin of the development of arts and letters (letters = academic disciplines: literature, philosophy, history, linguistics, art, and culture).

They did show enough ... the castle is mostly recognizable by the outside... the inside is actually very symmetrical and apart how the rooms decorations the rooms and the stairways make looks alike. I don’t know if has changed much ... not from the video. I visited 4 years ago ... most of the castle was empty, going through renovations... the king and the queen’s rooms plus some others room had tapestry but not a lot furniture if compared to some other famous castles ... in fact at least during my visit most of the castle flooring looked like left in cement or something similar

Hahaha I’ve been to Chambord ... the sheer size of the castle and those numerous chimneys and turrets its breathtaking! But the beauty of this chateau lies in its exterior. It’s not as decorated as Chenanceau for exemple or this another one that Stephanie has also shown in one of her videos. By the way... I also love watching Stephanie’s channel!

No, not really. The rule of courtesy, when you are a foreign journalist in a country and are interviewing someone, is to let this person speaks his own language (especially when the interview deals with specific and technical terms). I often go to Greece, Italy, Spain or Germany, and the people interviewed there by English speaker journalists very often answered in their own language. And I guess nobody expects British/Us/Australian(etc) people to answer in Spanish, German or French if they are interviewed in their country by Spanish, French or German journalist.

The last Royals of France were set up by the Catholic Church, because Louis wanted to introduce equality to taxation, including Cardinals being taxed, for the first time.King Louis also encouraged the peasants to diversify in their crops. Great advice that they ignored, and went hungry as a result.
