Here we are: 12 months of renovations and decorating and changing up this beautiful space.
When I saw this room for the first time I knew this was home, even in all its ugliness I could see the potential and what tweaks it needed to feel like a proper Château living room again. It took me some time, it took trying things out and researching about interiors. Before this makeover I had never really made over a space this large and this historic. I tried keeping and even adding more historic features and preserving the ones that were already there. Like any space this is a living and breathing space, it changes over time, but I have to admit that I have created quite a timeless beautiful interior that still needs a few tweaks:
I really would love to find frames for the two dog portraits above the fireplace.
But it is so so much better and it's home.

Thank you. I think I will want to do this for the whole house but I’m still not 100% sure.

You have done a wonderful job of the room. All together the result is a wonderful, warm, welcoming space. Best wishes from Australia.

I can't believe, you painted that beautiful fireplace and covered that gorgeous beam...

Oh well, we all have different styles and like different things, don’t we? And that’s the wonderful thing about this world, that we’re all different

Different tastes is one thing but by painting the fireplace the same as the mantel you've just canceled out both. Idk what it looks like in person but on video you can't even tell it's not just a one piece wall. Neither one makes a statement anymore. Try one of those apps that let you take a picture of the room, then change colors on your computer. You can see how it will be, without wasting money to paint then change it. I myself am a 'don't paint that wood' kinda gal, but when I see someone's completed project (trust the process) I usually have to admit that, yet again, I'm wrong!

@@marshawargo7238 I understand you completely but in person it really doesn't look like one piece of wall. I have a rule for painting wood: Never paint old wood, unless it's in a bad state, sometimes that's the only solution then.

the sofas just don't harmonize with the interior you worked so hard on. I would suggest you find some beautiful upholstered turn of the century pieces and drape them with lots of patterned blankets, throws. And please buy some beautiful patterned pillows- lots of them. Such a beautiful interior to work with!

Thank you for your input. I just don’t like turn off the century sofas because they’re not really made for comfort. At one point I’ll invest in well made nice sofas to properly lounge on. It’s also always a thing of finance and seeing how you can invest what kind of money at what point in time.

I can't watch anymore. I cringed when you painted the beautiful wood around the windows. For the mantle I was thinking at least that ugly mantle can be removed but when you painted the wall above the mantle I couldn't take anymore. Your house, your style but I'm out.

The wood work was done hideously and was maybe 20 years old and so on and on. Like I already said in another comment: we all have different styles and preferences, what a bleak world it would be if we’d all like the same things. Probably I’d also dislike your design choices but I do believe that we should all be compassionate with one another than attack ourselves.
