Makes sense. The French are extremely rude for some reason. I live right next to the Canadian border, going into Quebec. And they are just as rude. I don't know why.
I don’t know, I didn’t read it as super polite. They all made faces of disgust and didn’t really try to hide it. Also there were not any compliments. I don’t know, to me it just read as folks who are not open to trying new foods outside their culture. Personally I would have loved to see them really dig in and try to enjoy the meal rather than criticize. If the guest made that meal himself than he likely spent a lot of time making it with love. Next time I hope he shares the food with people who really will appreciate his time and effort. ❤
"Dry dough" the person probably didn't have lard. My first time making tamales, I missed it. I never lived it down 😂 all my work and I kept getting that reminder from one family member

I dont know where to try them. All these bodegas and spanish restaurants around me just sell empanadas and other spanish foods like sopa de pollo, etc.
That is probably one of the best things about America, in any decent sized city (150k+) you can find all kinds of authentic cuisine that’s so special and delicious
How can people hate tamales? I even serve them to my Asian mom and she liked them. Then asked wouldn’t it be better to wrap it in lotus leaf instead?😂 we have Asian version of tamales with sticky rice and pork and it’s wrapped that way.
I met my Mexican wife during military service and it's crazy because I'm Asian. I love Mexican food now and it's all I wanted to eat at one point. I have learned to embrace the Mexican culture and it's deep history.

I like that they were all respectful about the food, even if it wasn’t what they personally liked. They didn’t spit it out and yell in disgust, and tried to find something they liked about it, along with actually trying it, which is more challenging than some people think.
I love tamales ! My cousine is from Venezuela and cooked for us, it was amazing ! Now every New year we spend together she cook tamales because i really liked it. ❤❤❤ She is so sweet ❤❤❤

Tamales are amazing if you get the right ones. Especially when they’re homemade. I went to this like “tamale party” or whatever with my moms Mexican side of the family and it was really fun and the tamales were amazing. Meanwhile many store bought ones are usually quite dry
To make them less dry I put water on the husk then cook them. I usually is a wet paper towel to wrap them in then add drops of water over in and on the plate so that it not dry when their done.
as a mixed person (a fourth mexican) tamales can be an aquired taste for some people. where im from the reason we can eat them with no problem is because most of the other dishes have a lot of the same(ish) textures and flavors like refried beans, rice, tortillas and various stews, soups and cooked meat like the filling. plants and fire are extremely important to us in our often dry hot climate, i understand completely.
Bless their heart for trying them at least and saying good stuff. The dough is supposed to be overcooked cuz it's steamed. You're supposed to eat it together with a sauce usually spicy one which they probably wouldn't enjoy. I would suggest pairing it with a nice beans. They do tend to be dry if overcooked and some nice refried beans or some just nice. Whole kidney beans would pale right nicely. I would go with something with chicken in it😊
We make tamales every Christmas from scratch, my mom grew up with Mexican culture, so our tamales are never dry, and we also make a chilli sauce from scratch, whole process, dehydrated pepper, rehydrated, etc! She knows the process better than I do, but we help assemble the tamales!! He fumbled making it too dry lol!
I am Chinese, and tamales are very suitable for my Chinese stomach. I liked it the first time I ate it, and I often buy it afterwards. I ate other mexican dishes after that and loved them all.I love mexican food so much!!!
Mexican food is so good. I used to live in Texas, US so we were right next to Mexico and Mexican food is so easy to find. Now I live in Thailand and it’s definitely harder to come by. Curious to see the Asian-Mexican fusion and how different it is
There was a Mexican woman who sold homemade tamales in the parking lot where my mom worked for like a buck a pop, we’d have them for dinner once a week. They were so good and I miss them 😭
Dude, as a kid, I don’t know where we went, but my dad, who was full blood Mexican in the state of Texas. Would take us to a bunch of cool places that I loved and I remember a few times where we stopped in a specific parking lot and there was this lady selling Tamales and they were SO good. I don’t remember for crap where all those places were but oh well😅 Side note: I know the girl in the video meant no harm but I’m a little ticked off that she just ate out the insides lol 😅

I live in LA so you come across those ladies from time to time in the parking lots! Whenever I can, I buy them :) I’ve never been disappointed with their tamales before- they always are warm and fresh when you get them

This was like my high school French teacher and us as a class who were majority Mexican American. We had a lot of fun exchanging culture facts with each other. Her eyes lit up when I introduced her to champurrado lol
Tamales are so hit or miss. I can't get enough Mexican food in my life but tamales are not how I would introduce the culture unless I tried each one first! It's like porkchops- a juicy tender one with fresh homemade applesauce and rosemary or a plain dry brick that chokes you and cramps your jaw.
I totally understand their reaction to them trying to eat the corn wrapping on the outside. first time I'd ever had Tamales I was like 20 years old and I'm from America and knew Mexican people all my life. My friends all laughed at me 😅
If it makes you feel better, at our church they made them in banana leaves I think instead of the husks, and I ate it with the banana leaves until someone saw and said “nOo you don’t eat that part!!” 🫣
Unwrap em like presents is what you shouldve said. I dont know why they would be dry though but my grandma makes some of the if not the best tamales ive ever had. I really enjoy the sweet ones made with cheese, raisins, cinnamon and some sweet coconut flakes or whatever they are called. Im sure theres lard and sugar in their aswell but possibly not sugar because its not overbearing and the coconut and raisins give some sweetness
When people say “French people are so rude” direct them to this video. Outside of the very large cities, French people are so polite, welcoming, and just overall very lovely.
As a French person I think it’s the accent, we can sound a bit abrupt, compared to Americans and Canadians I feel like English sound more rough or less polite.
