My mother in law told me the same thing, but when I looked online to check all the terms a “combinaison” came up as more of a short sexy nightdress, whereas the vintage-style slip like I’m wearing was always listed as “fond de robe” or “slip”. So I went with that 🤷🏻♀️

A language is not just about the words it's also the sound and as a native French speaker, I sometimes don't understand my own language when spoken by strangers. But you are not one of them! C'est comme cela que vous vous perfectionnerez si vous acceptez d'être parfois un peu corrigée. En-dehors de cela je voulais aussi vous dire que j'aime beaucoup votre chaîne et votre approche de la mode vintage ! (et si vous permettez un petit conseil, en français nous disons plutôt "c'est un compliment de dire que pouvez me comprendre", par exemple. Mais ne laissez pas cela vous ennuyer !
