Funfact, in modern french, for some reason, "passer l'arme à gauche" (17:15) has become (somewhat dated) slang for "to die".

Very Interesting thank you for the Ballistics Chart 116gr (7,5 Gram) of 1 1/2F Swiss is a Hefty charge for such a light carbine of only around 3,3kg I am wondering however what is the Red and the blue line in the Chart?

what do you need a stitching pony for? i don't know about you but i don't care all that much for the newer ballistic gelatin, it's harder to aim at different points with the new clearer stuff when you're trying to compared different loads against each other in the same block!

that was meant more as a sarcastic comment than serious, i know full well the only reason someone would have a specialized tool like that is if they're doing a lot of leather work! i just hope you have better prices and availability over there than we do over here!

Love from south of France ! I'm happy to know you, and, in same time, so sad, because today, everyone hates firearms and History in general. Nobody thinks it's firsts they make their free. I'm sorry to my pour english, but i wish u know what i mean. See you later. Guillaume.

How did they measure muzzle velocity in the 1700's to get the 470 meters per second?
@capandball
@capandball 2 месяца назад
Velocity of projectiles was measured and calculated with ballistic pendulum; a procedure invented by Benjamin Robins is the first decades of the 18th century. Hi treatise - New Principles of Gunnery - was first published in 1742 and established a reasonably accurate experimental and mathematical solution for calculating the velocity of a projectile impacting the pendulum. The method is simple: a bullet is fired into the bullet catch of the pendulum transfers its momentum to the bob. The momentum of the projectile is calculated from the amplitude of the pendulum swing.
