In 1968, the French army asked the Saint-Etienne arms factory to modify the MAS 49/56 to make it a competition weapon. Until now it was the role of the FRF1. But the Americans decided to disqualify it...
The MAS proposed a "kit" MSE (Modified Saint-Etienne) which proposes mainly a complete change of the stick by a more ergonomic model with handle and cheek rest. The scope remains the APX L806 Mle 53.
The MAS 49/56 which will have received this kit will be selected beforehand for their accuracy.
Real MAS 49/56 MSE are very rare today. And it is very easy to find a kit, and to install it on a standard MAS 49/56.
They will not be used on OPEX but only for military competition.
