French sports minister swims in Seine ahead of Olympics

French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera took the plunge and swam in the River Seine, in a publicity moment that French authorities hope will show the capital's river is clean enough and ready to stage swimming events at the Olympic Games.
Oudea-Castera briefly swam in the Seine near the Alexandre III and Invalides bridges.
“The Seine is beautiful! It (the water) is good!” Oudea-Castera shouted as she bathed in the river alongside French Paralympic triathlete Alexis Hanquinquant.

Toilet water is safe drinkable water atleast in the Netherlands so I would swim in a toilet and I would consider it safe

She looks like that naturally, that's what happens to people who live in Paris. Everyone stays indoors all the time, it's pretty bad. I'm so glad I moved from france to Hawaii, took me 16 years but I got it done... It rains way too much in france

The olympics will be awesome. I think Paris' clean up efforts are admirable as is their commitment to lower the environmental impact of the games.

My heart goes out to the swimmers competing. Imagine taking in that water 🤢 hopefully no one gets ill from this. Talk about ego trumps the wellbeing of the athletes 😤

Where did the money magically come from to clean the Seine? If France wants to make a good impression; they should make it to their own citizens first! French citizens deserved a clean river BEFORE the Olympics.

They had to do extensive infrastructure work upstream to put in processing for villages where the sewers ran straight into the river as they have for hundreds of years. I hope they do hourly bacterial studies and have a solid backup plan.

I heard there were apps for figuring how long it'd take a poo to get there from way further up stream. Even if it was dirty before, people have been crapping in it for months in preparation for this date.
