Thats a great series. As an historian I love to say that this is one of my favourite channels. Just an idea, would you made a series from the 80 years war between Spain and Netherlands? Sack of Amberes, Duke of Alba, Wilhem, Maurice of Orange, Spinola, Siege of Breda, Corsairs of Dunkerque, beggars of the sea (watergeuzen), Water War, revolutions of the sieges... I think It could be great. A hug from Spain.
It's difficult to put it in those terms. Before Luther the Catholics were the liberals and the Protestants the conservatives. Then with the Counter-Reformation Catholics caught up and the roles switched.
@@pikeshotBattles Yes, the roles seem to constantly switch back and forth. Even today. I agree with the view that the protestants were the original conservatives, while the catholics the original revolutionaries. This seems most clear in this french civil war. I belive this war is just as important as the 30 years war, if not even more important. Could you imagine a protestant (latin nation) France? And how that would have changed the dynamics of Europe? Maybe the french revolution would never have happened. And the french woulde have had a greater rivalry with Spain than with England.
Nietzsche claimed that Catholicism was about to evolve into a quasi-pagan religion that he would respect, before Luther forced it back to its slave morality roots. Maybe he was on to something.
@@ingold1470 Catholicism is considered paganism for anyone who knows his Biblical history as well as church history. It should not come to anyones surprise that the Vatican is buildt upon the Mount Janus And if you know about Janus in roman mythology, well then you should start to understand.
@@ingold1470 Maybe he was too optimistic... I for one won't be interested until the cross (an ancient Pagan symbol) is vacated by its current occupant.
And it's done! Check it out if you want to know how George R. Martin will finish his book. ;) Oh and in the long version there will be a chronology + a family tree of all major participants. To the Swiss person who always makes a racket about Basel, that will also be corrected!
wow it's being a long way, I almost feel as exhausted as the beligerent frenchmen. Tho surely I will rewatch the entire series to properly understand what is unfolded at the end of this grim journey.
I appreciate your work. Your admirable work must deserve more subscriber. This video is stunning and one of the best life experiences of my life. I wish you can gain 1 million subscriber by the end of this year. Your editing make your channel my favourite
8:20 this is a fine example of how Protestantism in France attracted the middle and upper classes, as well as craftsmen and academics. This gave them a technological advantage against the norm for that time.
Could you at some point do a series about a conflict involving the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth? I feel like that country is unknown to quite a lot of people.
A war never ends,a patron of one faith a saint to another,a force of soldiers agianst worries of another,Henri turned to what he hated, and his children too,the prodestents had to finish off the Catholics,or... You all know what happened
