I just got laid off, my girlfriend dumped me, and I've been diagnosed with kidney stones. I could use some uplifting music. This band is called Fresh Air. Maybe this'll cheer me up.
No information about this band. Supposedly this record was released in 1971 on the Morgan House label. This was their only release. I'm going to assume that they were a Baltimore local band. Seems the female singer, Alana Shor, went on to do more stuff in the 80s with the band "Shor Patrol". Another of the bands members, Bob Brady, was a part of The Con Chords (assuming it's the same guy) who released Blue Eyed Soul records in the sixties. This is a very strange song and I have no idea how a label managed to release it. Granted, there was other strange stuff at the time (like the band Comus), but to have a song literally titled "Kill Yourself", with the chorus saying "commit suicide!" is hilariously staggering.
people were smoking weed since a lot longer than the 70s and i mean, even sober people come up with comically dark and absurd concepts... the only real question is why arent more people making music like this? i usually hate music that sounds like this but ill give this a couple listens.
Kind of sounds like an anti smoking ad. With the taste industrial waste, the smoke imagery, and the let your lungs decide. Or telling them factory owners to snuff themselves
this song surprisingly isnt about suicide - the chorus mentions it a lot yes , but the main idea of the song isnt that. this is anti-pollution , anti-smoking , all that stuff.

To me this reads as an anti-pollution message. The lyrics are specifically talking about bad air quality and industrial waste. The environmental movement gained traction by the 1960’s, especially after Marvin Gaye’s album ‘What’s Going On’ touched on the same issues in 1970. This song was released in 1971.
OK, so I was initially wondering if this was one of those A.I. novellty tracks doing the rounds, but the musicianship told me no (if you listen to a lot of *current* A.I. novelty tracks, you'll get why you can kind of tell this isn't one). Just to be sure, I checked out Discogs and this was a genuine release back in 1971! Thanks OP! This is a great little track! I'm surprised it hasn't been sampled the fuck out of by crate diggers yet....

@@RikoAyaka455 yeah, that was kind of the point. AI-generated songs that are somewhat coherent, and sometimes good enough to be actually funny, are a relatively new thing. Maybe just year or so? Definitely you wouldn't have just stumbled onto them in RU-vid 4 years ago
@oskarikoski9683 Definitely within the last year for decent A.I. music. You can still usually tell its A.I. though....kinda like you can tell an A.I . generated article or answer. By this time next year, you probably won't be able to tell the difference.

@@rockolutheran That was my original interpretation, but the problem is it makes out like this is an individual decision. The person they're referring to is actively killing themselves and hurting those around them which fits smoking really well. But it could be a case of ¿Por Qué No Los Dos?
Yea i think thats also a fair interpretation. To me, it seems like it’s saying you might as well commit suicide if you and others around you don’t try to change the situation regarding pollution, especially if the message is falling on deaf ears - “No one really cares”. It’s a really captivating and strange song this one.
I opened yt to listen something to relieve my stress of today and it literally greeted me with this. I was trying to process if it was a meme or something made with AI but when I saw it was uploaded 4 years ago I was like "no way this shit is real. It must be a shitpost or smth." AND IT WAS AN ACTUAL RELEASE AND A SURPRISE. But a welcome one nonetheless.

RU-vid is hilarious. it kept on recommending me this song for days, even after I listened to it. Then today the song was haunting me when I woke up so I wanted to listen to it again. So I typed up 'kill yourself' in the search bar and immediately I was asked if I wanted to proceed and that I should talk to the Samaritans etc etc. Damn it, I wasn't the one that recommended this song in the first place.

This is like something out of South Park. I can see it now: This song has just hit it big and kids all over the town - including Kenny - are killing themselves. The band performs live in the town and parents everywhere are protesting the show. At the end of the episode Stan and Kyle make a speech about how parents should be raising and talking to their children instead of getting entertainment to do it for them. Maybe get the ghosts of Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, and Chester Bennington involved.
