I remember my mom and grandmother making fried pies with dried apples, the pies made with dried fruit always seems to be better than fresh... love these pies
Oh Miss Lori... i made the 1st batch of pies with a solid shortening. However, I made this 2nd batch with lard. LORD Honey those pies were so tender and flaky. The best by far that I have made. The chocolate filling should be outlawed it is so good. Thank you again for video and recipe. Just love you and Mr. Brown.
I am so glad I found you! you are sort of a neighbor, at least a fellow Arkansan. I made your meatloaf in a skillet last night. It was a big hit❤️ I made your chicken and dressing and gravy tonight along with the fried pies! You rock!! Thanks for the recipes❤️❤️❤️
Oh I remember as a young girl helping my grandma make her fried pies. After breakfast she always made us her wonderful fried pies. I was in heaven. They were the best right off of the stove. She is dearly missed. I can’t wait to try this recipe. Thank you for sharing this recipe. 💕
Miss Lori, I have one of those gagets👍, I use it to make egg rolls. Never thought to make fried dessert pies! Wow, love💜💙💛 lemon meringue, so I think I will try it! Thank you for the great idea. You & Mr. Brown have a blessed day. God bless🙏🌈🙏
Thank you so much for this, Ms Lori. I've been with your channel for a while but I missed this somehow. Tipper @CelebratingAppalachia channel mentioned your chocolate fried pies and I'm glad I found it. Whippoorwill Holler and Celebrating Appalachia are my most favorite channels! Many blessings to your and your family.
@@WhippoorwillHoller Yes, you're both wonderful women and a third I shouldn't have forgotten is Becky from Hillbilly Kitchen. As I mentioned to Tipper, you three ladies are blessings and the best role models alive today. Grateful for all three of you.
I ordered and received 2 pounds of dried apples just to make some fried pies. I am so excited. My great granny made these and they were so delicious. I can't wait to make these. Thank you for sharing. I know she didn't use self rising flour and I'm so glad you have shown a dough recipe with all purpose flour.
Oh Lori!! I am sitting here with my morning coffee and I just got a notification on my computer that you were making fried pies and I rushed right over. These look SO good!! And I love that little gadget that you used to make the pies!! Oh my goodness - what a time saver. And cute pic at the end of Mr. Brown eating one of the fried pies!! I know they were delicious!! Love, Mary
Lard makes great pie and cobbler crusts, but literally everyone I know hates it for no good reason. Local grocery stores have refused to sell it for ages. The only fat my mother and her friends would use in their pie crusts, tart shells and biscuits was unsalted butter. Even plain white Crisco shortening was very rare with them. Affluent snobs who know nothing about food and can't cook are to blame for today's wrongly banned foods and obscenely inflated food prices. They dictate what supermarkets sell. They drove up prices of affordable meats and poultry by declaring them health foods. Wonderful meats like beef and pork chuck and butts, beef short ribs, soup meats, oxtail, pork loin roasts and chicken cost $10.00+ per pound around here! Cheap chicken is history. Pricey turkeys are only found at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Easter hams are considered unhealthy, so they're nearly impossible to find. Small russet potatoes, onions and various small apples are $1.00+ each! A lot of mediocre stuff we don't want is imported from Latin America and Asia. We get stuck with trash, despite the fact California's massive Central Valley alone grows enough food to easily feed the entire US! Government Fish and Game enviro-nazis sent seafood and freshwater fish prices sky-high by limiting catches. We live directly on the West Coast, but the crazy-expensive corner grocery store still sells Jumbo fresh-caught prawns for $36.00 per pound! When I was a kid, fish markets sold huge ones for only $2.99 per pound. Back in the day, fabulous gourmet shellfish dishes could be made for next to nothing.
LOVED that mold for making the pretty edges. How helpful must THAT be? And even better, it makes them look professional. These were mighty tasty, I'm betting. Girl, if you ever took a notion to do it, you could start a business for things like this right out of your kitchen. Even though you live way far out, I'd be willing to bet people would drive a ways to come for food that would be that good! God bless.
I made your chocolate filling today and spread it over biscuits. Oh my goodness! Phenomenal and so easy! I ordered one of the easy mold things to make the fried pies. Thank you again!

My granny made apple pies from dried apples as well as applesauce. She didnt fry them ,she browned them in a iron skillet on top of stove ,then finished off in the oven. Would love to have one right now.
Not being a minimalist.. I love kitchen gadgets.. And I am and always have been- all about the lard..The best. Totally a fun mini pie making session.. Thanks for sharing..

Oh I love fried pies❣️. My Grandma and Mother made these. My favorite it Apricot ❣️. You make them in deeper oil than my Mom did. But it’s all good. I want to try your crust recipe ❣️. Thank you so much. I’m so happy I found you❤️😊. Take care and God Bless❤️
Found you by accident & so glad I did! I have subscribed & am now binge watching! I have watched several of your videos & I am loving them. I love baking too! But I don’t do as much now that I am on a Ketogenic lifestyle. I love food! But it loves me back! Love your simplicity! Love your kitchen too! Brings me back to my grandma’s old farmhouse kitchen so many, many years ago! How I miss the old days! I am so enjoying you & your videos. You are so pleasant to listen to & your cooking is awesome! Thank you so much! There is very little good stuff to watch anymore! I have basically given up on TV shows! Thank you & God bless!
Oh Lori these look so delicious, thank you for sharing. My Mom always made fried apple pies, but I have never even tried. You have inspired me, but got to get one of those mold, seems to make it so much easier, blessings
Hi my sweet sister, you sure can cook a great pie 🥧 you are the queen of pastry!! Seeing your video notification this morning brightened my day 🌞 love you heaps ♥️😘❤️xxx
Your wonderful videos bring tears to my eyes .. this one brings me right back to my Grandmothers' Country kitchen in Knoxville as a young girl, she made Apricot Fried Pies and chocolate fried pies and Peach Fried pies everything by hand .. this is so wonderful Thank You
When my mother in law was still alive she used to make fried prune pies. We never ate prunes ever but if she let us know she made them, we would all show up for them. So good!!
My husband and I made these fried pies today and they were delicious! I especially loved the pie crust. Thanks for your videos. God bless you and your family.
@@WhippoorwillHoller I'm writing you a letter about my endless substitutions in some cookies I made in the seventies. It still makes me smile. Because I had to keep adjusting for wet and dry and shortening. That one is very funny too. So you will know my name. I just love your videos. I feel like I'm sitting there in your kitchen or garden just visiting. You come across as just being yourself so I think probably most of your subscribers feel the same as I do. I've always loved sitting with friends in their kitchen rather than the parlor. My roomie is one of those who often doesn't have a clue what goes into making something. She's never tasted home made pudding....and never will if she doesn't stop calling my jars of things gross. Have a good one and I'm going to try to write the substitutions cookie letter this week.
Just really enjoy your receipes! Reminds me allot of how we grew up with real good all natural foods...all we used to get from store would be like sugar and flour. All else was home grown or hunted...thank you and God Bless!
BIG smile! I was just thinking about fried pies the other day. I haven't had one since I left the southwest about 25 years ago and thought about looking for a recipe. It doesn't get any better than this because I'm already subscribed. But right now I am soooooo happy! No doubt I'll be making these by the end of the week. No freshly rendered lard but heck, I can buy lard. Not as good but it works. And my friends here have never heard of fried pies....yeah, I told them you don't know what you're missing.
I’m sitting here waiting to go to the dentist close to having an anxiety attack and found this video of yours. I feel better. You always make me feel better and you make me think I might be able to make a fried pie. Thank you, God Bless You Lori.💖
Wow those look yummy. Would like to have one of those right now with coffee. Mr. Brown looks like he loved them. My husband eats most of the fried pies while I'm doing them. I have to keep frying until he gets full and then I have some for the rest of us. Lol God Bless you two!
Just watched your stack cake video and brought back so many good memories...I knew after that if I dug around, you'd be makin' fried pies! My Granny would bring us a sack of full of 'em, and they wouldn't even make it through the day! Thanks for your work!
My aunt always made the best fried pies. Never heard of the chocolate fried pies but will try for sure. My mother made the best pie crust and with the left over crust she would make chocolate rolls 😋
Oh my! My mother used to make these and I have always wondered how she did it. She would make apple fried pies or cherrie and she would use a fork too. I’m sure yours are just as yummy as hers were....thank you for showing how to do this. I can’t wait to try it! 😁
I made chocolate ones when I was a teenager using powdered Nestle quick mix. I used the powder but it absorbed moisture from the pie dough by the next day. Next time I added a little water. They were great.
Hello! My name is Lori too! I'm so happy to have found your channel. I love your videos! You just seem so sweet and down to earth. Your recipes remind me of the ones I grew up with and I love making them myself. :)
I just made Apple & Chocolate fried pies! They are sooooo good! Thank you for posting this video & taking away my fear of making fried pies. God bless you! 🙏🏻
Thank you! My Mother used to make Apricot fried pies. My favorite. Got to find those molds. And my Husband would have loved those Chocolate fried pies!
Hello Mr & Mrs Brown hope y’all are doing well. Mrs Lori just wanted to say I have cooked several of your recipes and loved them all. As I sitting here at home looking at one of your recipes for fresh rendered lard & fresh pies . I wanted to ask you about your pie maker 😊 I love it . Where could I find one . Just love you & Mr Brown
New subscriber here. Love your videos. I live in Wisconsin and my grandparents used to stay in Arkansas for the winters. We would drive down to visit them and even though they lived in town. McGee, Arkansas to be exact.I am probably not spelling that right?, I loved the friendliness of my grandparents neighbors and one sweet lady made us fried pies as a welcome gift on our visit. My grandma Arlene really cherished her time there. Your videos bring back sweet memories of Grandma and Grandpa’s Arkansas neighborhood.
Hi, I love your channel!! Just in case you didn't know, the bottoms of your fried pie molds are also used to cut out the perfect circle for the size of pie you want. You're using a green mold, turn it over and to your rolled out dough press the bottom into the dough and the circle is cut and ready for you to put into the other side to fill with your apricot or chocolate or whatever filling your using. I hope you found this helpful. I figured it out but I I've seen quite a few people using the mold you have but rolling out their dough and then cutting them by hand to fit the size they needed when that little gizmo will do it for them!! Best of luck to you with your channel. God Bless, Linda
@@WhippoorwillHoller I watch you all the time too. I think your cooking is a lot like mine but more country and I love that. I think you're a great cook. I'm subbing your channel and I'm going to mention your channel on mine. I hope this will send you some subs! God Bless you Lori, Linda
My Auntie used to make the apricot pies for my Dad all the time. Fried pies, tamales, and Chili Verde big heaping plates of food... It is a wonder my Dad or any of my Uncle's could choke down Banana Pudding after those meals, but they managed to. It was like Thanksgiving when Auntie Gail came to visit.

Yum yum..we made apple pies like that alot. And yeah the fork method...lol. I need to get me one of those dough presses. I think I'm going to try to incorporate one old item at a time in my videos. I tried making a video of them it ended up way to long. But I'll get some in. Love ya
I know it's hard when you got good stuff for a video, I just dont think every video has to be a short! Like making bread, ain't gonna happen. Your videos are great, so down to earth, love them, love you sweet lady, God Bless, xoxoxo
My sweet Mom made fried apple pies...... apples from dried apples.... the best flavor ever ! But of course she used Crisco.............. Oh my Oh my............ we ate like PIGS 🐷 to the trough!!!!!!!
It's so busy, working a full time job. And keeping up the homestead, and trying to throw a video up, I need 2 of me! Lol, I cant even get outside, its rained for a month , need some sun, dry weather, I've got to get caught up on everybody's videos too, love ya, thanks for watching, xoxoxo
The bottom of that lovely turnover press works like a cookie cutter so you get the perfect shape for them. I love the ones my sister bought for me years ago:)
When I first saw the picture of the apricots, I thought they were big chunks of chocolate. My grandsons and I are going to make fried pies this morning.
I remember my mother making fried peach pies. When she'd take them out of the skillet and turn around, they'd be gone haha. Problem #1 with 5 kids in the house haha.
