I have been binge-watching your videos recently, and you are really clearing up so many "mysteries" I had about singing, though I've been singing all my life. At 58, I am finally making time to improve my singing...THANK YOU!!

Love the technical explanation... breath support is so critical! Love the info about air pressure.

Please don't apologize for explaining vocal anatomy and physiology! Music is art, math, and science. (maybe other things). 'Theory' and 'practice' are scientific terms too, right? You're a great teacher!

It's amazing what time and further research and study can do for you. I listen to this and I understand it 100%. Before, three years ago? It was going mostly over my head.

Thank you so much! This video is SO good. It includes so many things I've had problems with. I've been too breathy without realizing it. I'll revisit this one and practice with it. THANK YOU 😀

Thank you so much Freya! I appreciate you so much. I am trying to work on developing a mix voice. My chest and falsetto are there it’s just I wasn’t aware of what vocal closure meant or felt like and I naturally sing in quite a breathy manner. Breathy isn’t bad it’s just I want to be intentional about it. I hope to follow your exercises on this to develop an awareness of the feeling of closure and develop my mix. Thanks

I’m really excited to watch more of your videos! I’m wondering if you have tips for voice acting? I had a Disney face character audition and was cut after the acting section. But I noticed all of the other girls knew how to sound like the character they were asked to portray. So for example, Belle has a gorgeous voice, and anyone who plays her sounds exactly as she does in the movies. I know it’s all training in your voice but it is so hard for me to figure out!

Can you please make a video on how to fix irregular vibrations ? Or would this also be fixed with correct vocal closure ?

Ms, Freya, what are some exercises I should be doing daily to strengthen the three different parts of my vocal chords? I can do the whistle register, so what can I do improve on that as well?

Tku Freya ! This was quite detailed. Am suffering from MTD and I’ve had a Stroboscope Examination. My Vocal Cords don’t close fully. Doctor didn’t see it as an issue . How do you think I can work around this problem for Singing ?

There is a specific phrase in a song I want to be able to sing and I cant do it without my throat feeling like there is a ton of pressure in it, my voice getting crackly, and finally it just turns into yelling. That phrase is 'give me love' in the chorus of Ed Sheeran's song "Give me love". Does this have anything to do with chord closure or???

My ENT told me I have slight vocal cord atrophy. I’m assuming aging is not the reason as I’m 28. Most likely it’s from trauma because my schedule was really heavy through the summer. Is it possible that this is simply a lack of closure vs a loss of tissue? Doctor said it may get better after my vocal rest for 2 weeks, but I’m pretty nervous as you can imagine.

How do you close the folds? I have my own idea, but I want to hear you say it.

I'm seeing this almost a year later, thanks for replying. I'll watch the exercises, I think again, lol.
@Rosannasfriend

Nowadays, three years later, I understand that it's about avoiding breathiness. Basically when you have the right onset and you avoid breathiness, you have cord closure.

So should someone sing with open throat or closed? This is confusing, not sure how to make sure either thing is happening totally correctly. OK what to do?
@kingwillie206
@kingwillie206 6 лет назад
Michael Craig - Both! Open while you are singing, but with breath control. You need to be able to hold your breath completely at times and hold your breath back and sing with an open throat at the same time. That plus muscle coordination is what makes singing so friggin difficult my friend. Not to mention tone, color, emotion, resonance performance ability, and the list goes on and on.
@michaelcraig9449
@michaelcraig9449 6 лет назад
King Willie how does one do this, or know they are doing this?
@marcusriverasocial
@marcusriverasocial 6 лет назад
Michael open throat is different to vocal vibration with breath pressure. Open throat is the sensation when you breathe in on "ah" position with the lowering of the larynx. Freya is explaining the different onsets here which are; "glottal", "aspirant" (breathy) and the "simultaneous" onsets. It can be quite confusing for a beginner so a good teacher can direct you in the right path. Good luck.

@@michaelcraig9449 I imagine that the vocal closure is in front of the throat but don’t know if that’s right
