Phil Collins was the drummer, and later, the lead singer for the band Genesis. He also had a successful solo career in the '80s. "In the Air Tonight" is probably his biggest solo hit. Coincidentally, Genesis and ABBA were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Hall of Fame in the same year (2010).
Wasn't for you Jay?? Damn...this happens to be my favorite song of all time! Was a big hit (surprisingly) here in the U.S. in 1983 (the year I graduated high school), was produced by Phil Collins (Frida was the first major star to use him as a producer, something which she does NOT get enough credit for) and the song was put into heavy rotation in the early days of MTV. As much as I love ABBA, this will always be my favorite song! Frida Rules
Thanks for the reaction. Well like the song or not she sure took a different solo path. Maybe she needed to emotionally. If you can get past the non english thing (It's worth it) her 96 Djupa andetag ("Deep breaths") is a great piece of work. "Frida (ABBA) - Sista Valsen Med Dig (1996)" ---> --ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-olHZgJtvIIw-.html- Or "Frida (ABBA) - Även en blomma (Danish TV) - ((STEREO))" ----> --ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jpiNNhZJM84-.html- That was to be the beginning of a comeback but her husband was diagnosed with cancer. He died. Then her daughter was killed in an auto crash. The second half of the 90's were pretty terrible for her. She's been through so much -- One strong women.
If you go down phil collins route be sure to do audio first then video/ live….best example is In The Air Tonight…Phil has had many great hits tho…You can’t Hurry love, Easy Lover, Two Hearts , Sussidio and the heart wrenching Another Day in Paradise……plus many more as lead singer with band Genesis
To Turn The Stone is more catchy and the film clip of it is bizarre. Go Go dancers with star wars light sabers and random pussycats all wandering about in a rock cave etc.
There's couple better songs in the album. Threnody (original written/perf Per Gessle from Roxette) and haunting 'Strangers'. Both a very beautiful and my recommendations for You to react.
When this came out, there was nothing else that sounded like it. Also Phil Collins had a hit album out and Abba just broke up. Abba's fanbase alone could attribute to it's success. May I now recommend Agnetha's (other abba singer) single I Can't Shake Loose that was released a bit later.
Great reaction! I remember this on mtv back in 1983 and it was the synth sound back then. Please react to Depeche Mode Photographic or Iggy Pop Endless Sea
I agree, not a favorite. The repetitiveness is almost annoying. I never was a big fan of the synthesizers from the early 80’s… it’s okay in small doses. (An exception is Gary Wright… he had some good stuff). You can’t go wrong with Phil Collins… I think you would love his song Sussudio. He has a collection called “The Singles” you might check out. You may be familiar with some of the songs, just not realizing who he is. He also has The Phil Collins Big Band stuff that is pretty good.
The song is written by Russ Ballard who wrote hit singles for many artists at the time, and yes, it has a very Phil Collins sound, but Frida wanted to try something different - she said if she wanted it to sound like ABBA, she'd have gotten Benny and Bjorn to produce it.
