I love the way the intro music of the western starts whilst the continuity globe is still in vision "This is BBC1" ... it gives sense of excitement.. anyone else feel this?

Just nine months old and in the pram at the time. Too young to remember black and white TV. I heard about it years later (now aged 52!)

The episode of The Virginian shown on that day was called "Jed" according to the Tv pages from The Times. I watched it other day, Trampas manages to get into trouble. Nuff said!

Not too nice if you were gay. No marriage rights. No protection in jobs. Even though consensual gay sex was made legal in 1967, it was still an atmosphere of fear. So no, I much prefer 2024 as a gay man, than go back to 1971 just because some TV was good.

Wonderful bit of vintage presentation. That sparse 'This is BBC1' link used to be commonplace, but scarcely used now. And good to see the excellent Gwen Watford in that 'Dixon' trailer.

good to see this, interesting as I recall from History many people would have to wait till mid 1970's or later to afford the upgrade for their TV sets & Licences to receive colour TV

This looks like it has been recorded off air, using the old telerecording system. Maybe I am wrong, but it just looks like a telerecording.

Well it wasn't actually, if it is telerecording then it would've been in 24 frames but this was recorded in smooth 50i so it was definitely recorded in tape.
