A planned wingsuit flyby ends with an unplanned low pull and nasty line twists. The wingsuit pilot decides to kick out the twists instead of cutting away due to the low altitude, but can’t clear them in time and lands with the lines twists. Remember: altitude is your friend. Don’t pull low.

one mistake leads to a second, a third etc-- things escalate. Asides from his poor decision making it ends with a great example of how to land a line twisted canopy (whether main or reserve) - a good learning aid for all parachutists. Well done for sharing the video.

A MARD (Skyhook) mmmmmight have worked...not sure, but the skyhook test videos show a skyhook getting reserves out , during a spin, in 1.8 seconds (fully inflated reserve). Since his main was "there & square" I too would have ridden it to the ground, but if it was diving line twists, and a skyhook in the rig, I'd go skyhook...but really, I personally wouldn't pull that fucking low. I try to pitch @ 4000', all the time (flying a Strix these days). Not a base jumper, just Capt. Safety Dork. Also got the Wingsuit Cypress AAD last year...I gotz all the safety b.s., and I'll probably be killed from a hard opening neck snapper or aorta tearer... but it'll be fun up until that point ;-)

I get really hacked off with 'he should be banned' type comments.... The geezer knows he fucked up, and then puts a video containing embarrassing mistakes up, so others can learn. Thanks for sharing, hope his friends were OK with the flyby (agreed before the jump). I use the twisting risers technique to bring the twists down where I can undo them, works perfectly. Instead of spreading the risers, squeeze and twist them in the same direction of the line twist, this will bring the twist down. Now reach the risers above the twist and use the leverage to rotate your body. Normally they'll start to undo as you twist.

People make mistakes in every sport. None of us are perfect. Thing about mistakes are- You learn from them, or you don't.. in this case if you don't, you die. When we step off that plane, we are pretty much open season to everything. A Skydiver without a wingsuit could lose control and knock someone unconscious or fuck up their chute. I've seen those videos on here before too! Would I ever use a wingsuit? Hell no, it's nowhere in my interests, but if other people want to use them, then give them a break. I don't understand why there are all of these divisions in everything? Wingsuits Vs. Divers, Sports Bikes Vs. Harleys, Snowboarders Vs. Skiers.. We aren't 12 anymore!

+Sarah Gerber You have got to admit though that skiers are annoying! lol
@rodneyreed5331
@rodneyreed5331 8 лет назад
+Sarah Gerber This has nothing to do with divisions between sports, this is all coming from a safety perspective. What Tk did in this video put not only his life but the lives of every jumper on that load at risk. Period, end of story. This sort of thing would and should get you grounded, license revoked, not too mention the ass whipping you could take from the people you could have killed. Simply reading the reactions to comments by this arrogant prick, you should be able to ascertain that he has no regard for the people around him, no respect for the dangers he imposes, and ABSOLUTELY no respect for this sport or the rules that govern it. If his daddy didnt own the DZ and he pulled that shit anywhere else. He would get jacked up by the DZ, the uspa and the jumpers he could have killed. Guarenteed

Use the weather vane technique...when in a wingsuit, under line twists, figure out which way you need to spin and stick that one wing out...wait for a half rotation, then switch wings, repeat every half rotation until line twists are un-twisted; no kicking necessary, no need to grab the risers. It's fucking awesome. ...provided it's there & sqare... but if you jump a tiny, performance/swooping canopy, if you're in diving line twists, it would have high G forces in diving line twists, and you're probably fucked...but this technique works for "there & square" and worked in a slow diving line twist, under a big WinX 210...yeah, altitude is your friend. Read all the ways people die, in Parachutist, then add those reasons to your list of "things to not do when skydiving"

@skydivepilot
@skydivepilot 5 лет назад
I don't know how serious your question was, but to answer it: Probably not much more expensive than driving motorbikes. The initial license including ~25 jumps (depending a little bit which country you are in) will cost you round about 2.500 up to 3.000 US$. After this, every jump will be around 25 US$. But - of course - you need equipment, which will probably cost you round about 5.000 US$ initially (buy a used rig, a suit, an altimeter, a helmet and so on). Instead of buying you can also rent euqipment until you found something that fits your needs and sizes, but this will add another ~25 US$ to each dive. It's no cheap hobby, but after having received your license and your gear (which might cost you less than a motorcycle license and a good motorbike, depending on the motorbike you want to get) 100 jumps per year will cost you around 2.500 US$. Taking into account how much money people spend on their motorbikes, gasoline, insurance, wheels and other stuff, it's not more expensive than many other hobbies... And you are right: It's much safer than driving on a street. Also statistically. You have much more backup (malfunction handling, reserve chute if you cut away your main chute, automatic activation device for the reserve, altitude) than someone driving a motorbike and you have (by far) less external and unpredictable influence that can get you hurt or killed. Go for it! ;-)

Is the rate of descent going to be higher with line twists? If you find that you're going to land with twists, is spreading the top, like in this video, a procedure used to try to gain at least some possible steering & braking?
@beavis847
@beavis847 2 года назад
Sometimes your canopy can be flyable with line twists, other times if you have a higher performance canopy, it can go into an immediate down-plane and be impossible to both control, and kick out of, AND be at a much higher rate of descent. BUT if you have line twists, and a functioning canopy, especially if you're too low to cut-away, then by all means, you can grab the rear risers if your steering toggles are locked up, and steer using just the risers, and even flare the canopy.

Thermals rotate rapidly causing chute to spin………..often will cause chute collapse…..friend died that way.

Not sure if it’s the same as army parachutes but, we would put pressure at the risers and bicycle kick like hell until it would spin the person around several times until the risers were no longer twisted. Worked for me.

untangling from the top down goes against the spin you needed to untangle from the bottom up. You need to spin around the chute.

Explain this a little more. I am always worried about line twists ....
@jaycal1920
@jaycal1920 2 года назад
@@surfbug1 OK see how he tried to pull apart the twist from the parachute side (Top of the twist) instead of from his harness (Bottom of the twist) He is trying to spin the chute to untwist which wont work. He needs to untwist from his harness and spin himself and let the chute fly stable. it is easier to twist his body in the harness than they chute full of air. Bottom up.

He had plenty of altitude initially to chop at the beginning. That was bad twist from the get go!

Lazy bugger. All is explained in writing - above and below. Don't litter, but pic up all the invested words others contributed with!

TK is a dumb fuck. No one wants to jump with him and his own employees talk shit about him. If it weren't for his daddy owning the DZ, he'd have been banned a long time ago. I'd never get on the same plane as him. Don't really have to worry about that though, since his family owns a tandem factory and doesn't believe in "fun jumpers". Not that anyone would jump at their "business" anyway. They're a bunch of rude ignorant fucks. They like the harass and embarrass students when they PLF.

Out of zero experience myself. Would it of been a bad idea to cut and go to reserve within seconds of the extensive line twists or was he too low to begin with?
@squirrelofdoom3830
@squirrelofdoom3830 11 месяцев назад
I'm not that experienced a skydiver, but it looked very low to cutaway since you drop back into freefall for a few seconds. I'd personally rather have risked landing with twists than try to get the reserve out.

is it because he didnt slow down enough before deploying? or just bad luck?
