Agree, the opening was scarier. About the slider i would say or you leave it up there or bring it down but don't let it in the middle just over your riser handle.
I saw some others in the comment section point out that his slider appeared to cause the issue with the break line getting stuck. I bought a new canopy a couple of years ago that came with softlinks just like this canopy and the rigger didn't put on any slider stops. I'm not sure if the canopy came with slider stops or not, but I ran into all sorts of problems on my first jump with that canopy fumbling around with the slider. After jumping it for the first time I took the canopy back up to the rigger's loft and asked them to put on some slider stops which solved the issue. My conclusion after watching this video is that you need to put slider stops on your canopy unless you are a swooper or something and you have some other method of securing your slider.
Rear Risers control here! Looks like a slider creep down causing a brake jam. I agree with the others. Tracking for distance is more of an issue here before opening
incidents are usually a combination of events. we don't see the skydive but lack of altitude awareness probably features in the break off separation issue as well as needing to work on developing their max track. Seems a bet hesitant on opening. Going for the rear risers should be automatic, especially in groups. I can get out of a 180 off heading in under 2 seconds on the rears and I doubt there is any time to be saved using the toggles by the time you have got hold of them and pulled them out. Plus it then gives you time to sort your housekeeping like whether to pull the slider down over the toggles or not and assess the situation with the brake lines while on half drive, heading back towards the DZ (while maintaining all round awareness at the same time of course lol).
1) Learn how to track, you were all way too close on opening, that was some scary stuff. 2) You can fly your canopy with no problem using your rear risers.
Galavanta lol EVERYONE was the same distance on opening. Rear risers wouldn't have done crap in that situation. Only maximum input on the left toggle, or cutaway.
I wasn't talking about the landing, just how he stopped the auto rotation. They claim in the description he fixed it, I don't think he did, just applied as much input on the left toggle.
What separation? The slider, the excess brake line flapping all over the place, the slider collapsing lines and a failure to clear the slider away from the toggles was always going to end in tears. Have the excess brake lines stowed properly, ( I got a rigger to sew an extra stow on my risers and it works a treat) and dont touch your toggles until the slider is well clear of them is the way to go.
Flaring would have caused a turn given the mal, was glad to see the jumper just left it around half brakes and took the PLF. Control check and chop up front would have been a better call. Rear risers weren't a good option given the mal.
Someone educate me. What causes the spinning, with a good chute opening ? Is it a control line issue ?? Also, with a full canopy opened, but with main line twists that can't be bicycled out, why does this increase the decent rate, requiring cutaway ? I've wondered these for some time. Aim a pilot, but haven't quite understood these two issues. So, figured I'd ask the ones who actually know the answers. Thanks and safe skies !
His right brake/steering line was stuck in down position so he starts turning/spinning to the right. With a twist, both steering lines are stuck in the twist so you have no control. You also can't flare for the landing.
@@AirwaveMustang Thank you for that ! I just assumed that the slick nylon lines would operate somewhat even when twisted. But, considering the pressure in them, it makes sense. So I guess wagering on the reserve, rather than no control or brake, makes sense now. I really appreciate the education.
What happened to stalling ones Canopy at altitude? Getting the brakes un-stowed before jacking with the slider would have prevented the malfunction, what do other’s think?
This guy is a clown from jump street. Almost no separation at all and then he instantly puts that slider in a position that begs for a malfunction then he drops his toggles. This guys is all that is wrong with rookies.
What the hell was that! That guy is supposed to have over 200 jumps!? We shall be reading about him in the newspaper very soon. Some people just arent cut out for skydiving.
