A toggle fire causes line twists for this skydiver as he deploys his main parachute, followed by more line twists on his reserve parachute after a cutaway. Luckily he wasn't flying a small reserve and had plenty of altitude to kick out of the line twists on his reserve.

I love you Aussies ‘WOO HOO’!! I was screaming along in excitement at the end of that myself! Great composure and level head from start to finish! Well played brother 👊🏼

Good on him for not messing with that main too long and getting too low with a reserve twist ... screw it boss .. life >main canopy

Perfect execution. Good decision to cut, was able to clear line twist very fast on reserve and kept all his handles to boot! A+++

B Bhima no the reserve is for actual problems. I've gotten out of much heavier diving line twists on my katana. What this dude had was every other opening for me.

Same thing happened to me, minus the reserve twists. Looks as though he was wingloaded a bit more than I though, didn't get a lot of time before it started diving.

I was worried about his thumb getting trapped in the twists. Does that ever happen? Is it bad? Must hurt like hell, but is it dangerous? What happens if you cut away when your thumb is trapped? Hopefully the lines would untwist and free your thumb.

What's a toggle fire? ( I'm very very new in the sport ) :)
@sethb227
@sethb227 6 лет назад
Uttam D when the brake comes unstowed before you release it. With one unstowed its the equivalent of pulling one toggle half way down.

I am not sure I see a toggle fire either on the main (definitely not on the reserve), a little quick on the reserve (skyhook?); where you trying to deploy in a sitting position?
@Alakala
@Alakala 6 лет назад
imgur.com/fsdB53E highlighted the toggle fire (red) and the regular situation (green). Left one's visibly not in the elastic keeper, nor through the brake line itself, just hanging there at full blast.

@@bbhima5814 There are a thousand scenarios where an experienced skydiver may need to cut away at low altitude. Those situations have no respect for level of experience. Skyhook FTW.

theprivyninja didn’t look like he could just kick out of that one, no point in risking your life to save a canopy, he did the right thing
@theprivyninja
@theprivyninja 6 лет назад
Rick Grewal you’re right in the long run but he pulled pretty high as well. It woulda been worth a kick it two. Plus his reserve had just as many twists
@CapnFlintTV
@CapnFlintTV 6 лет назад
I'm with Rick on this one. Just twists, sure, but he had a toggle fire and with the lines twisted tight there's no way for him to release his right toggle and equalize the canopy. It was just gonna keep spinning, and the longer he waited the worse it would get trying to cut. Solid decision and EP's.
@adb012
@adb012 6 лет назад
It also looked like he was spinning fast and developing Gs. It is better to do it early and not when you black out or you can't lift your hands to pull the cutaway.

I see too many skydivers on these videos that are bad at dealing with line twists. I know kicking it out is the way they teach in schools, but it's not the only nor the best. I'm still a student and they taught us that way, but that didn't stop me to search malfunction videos on the internet and learn more. Had a similar situation on my 4th jump (wasn't that strong spin on the student canopy though) and resolved it with ease. This guy started panicking and didn't even try. Search for "Line twists remedy" video from AXIS FlightSchoolTV channel on RU-vid. Everyone should know this technique.
