This is an awesome and informative video for beginners and old hands alike. Three pedal boards can be simple (and cheap) and still sound fantastic. I run either the king of tone, sd1 or a Bd2 into a dd3 and tr2 (may be the greatest tremolo pedal out there). Simple and effective and incredibly versatile. I've started seeing more pros running simple rigs like this showing us that massive pedal boards are always necessary. Cheers.

I heard of you from That Pedal Show and have been watching your channel over the past few days and listening to Buck and Evans and have to say WELL PLAYED!!!! It looks like you work really hard and I'm sure over the years you've had to ride out hard times to get where you are that we will never know about. It brings me joy to hear your talent. Have you ever tried the Mooer Blues Crab? I love the Bluesbreaker style sound/feel/tone but (as you highlight here) they are expensive. I know you played the Boss Blues Driver but was looking for more of the Bluesbreaker style OD.

Tasteful playing man. Try the Guyatone md3 for a warm digital delay. I've had mine for 20 years. They recreated one of their very old which got some acclaim causing them to inflate their prices a bit.

Absolutely beautiful playing, serene. The Boss compressor was silent, I can't hear no problem with it, especially as you are using P90s. I use the Behringer equivalent on my board to no detriment. I guess we both got lucky. 😎🎸✅

Thats cool. I use the Blues Driver and the CS 2. Bought them used for around $50 each. My Whampler Clarksdale does might be replacing the blues driver. It has more eq and is less noisy. They both work with boosting Acoustic guitars as well.

I find for transparent compression the Philosophers Tone does it the best, and you can get them used for around $80. I find their strength is sustain, it has an ungodly amount, honestly i don't how it does it. I bought mine when i went in to get a Univibe. I happened to have s read w review of the PT, and saw it in the case and wanted to try it. I grabbed a Squire Tele, plugged into a Blues Jr and hit an open A to dial the amp in. I futzed around for a while looking to the pic i dropped and after i found it and went back the amp i realized the chord was still ringing out with no decay at all, it was just as loud as it was when i started. I turned to my right and there was 2 or 3 guys at the wall of guitars, all turned around staring at me with dumb looks on their faces (no knock to them, i had the same). "Dude, what the hell is THAT?" I told them it was supposed to be the Univibe, but apparently it's my new compressor. I will say that i only use it now for sustain, for my normal compression needs i use a Keeley, or a Dyna Comp for when I'm going for a specific pop and snap for clean arpeggios.

@ChrisBuckGuitar
@ChrisBuckGuitar 6 лет назад
David D Cheers David. I tried the D&M at Andertons last year and really liked it. I wouldn’t say it’s all that similar to the KOT; Dan’s side is fairly high gain and Mick’s side has a definite mid hump. The KOT is marginally more ‘transparent’ but I’d have to try them again to be sure. Both fantastic pedals though 🙂

Just been listening to Humble Pie live at the Fillmore, their guitar sounds were great, some lovely swapping of lead parts, between Pete Frampton and and Steve Marriot, they used a total of zero pedals or effects for the whole album. Pedals are great, but they are also another layer of disconnection between the player and their audience.

I live in a part of Australia where I can’t try good gear before buying. I have to pay a lot of money for decent gear and hope that it sounds like the RU-vid videos. I understand why you’d pay £200 to get things from the US. It’s crazy that people would criticise you for it.

Hey Chris ! Great video. Soul food, tube screamer mini or the blues driver ??? Looking for a bluesy overdrive pedal around the price point talked about in the video. Would you recommend any of the 3 I mentioned or do you, or anyone else looking to help, have any other suggestions? Cheers :)
@ChrisBuckGuitar
@ChrisBuckGuitar 6 лет назад
JoeHartGuitar Cheers Joe. I haven’t tried the SF but I’ve heard great things. I’m a big fan of the K-style overdrive so it’d definitely be worth a shout. BD2 sounds great into a darker amp in my experience. I used to be a big fan of the 808 but I haven’t used one in a long time now. They’re great pedals though. I’ll have a think on some other suggestions 🙂
@joehart598
@joehart598 6 лет назад
Buck and Evans ... Cheers for the response Chris. Im using a blues jr amp and a strat if that gives you a better insight. I am leaning towards the blues driver I think, especially after seeing you use it in the video, but if you think of any other suggestions that would be great 🙂
@fiftypeehead
@fiftypeehead 6 лет назад
JoeHartGuitar I have a BD2 and a Soul Food. Both great pedals. I find the Soul Food has one sweet spot that's perfect but doesn't do much else for me. Can sound a bit harsh to me. The BD2 is smoother and more versatile and is my favourite of the two. I wish I could make it sound like this video. I just don't have the fingers. Hope you don't mind me chiming in
@joehart598
@joehart598 6 лет назад
Q Tips Wallet Thanks for the feedback. I think from what you have said and the videos I have seen I will probably go for the BD2. It seems more suitable for the thing that I’m going for at the minute I think. Cheers for the help mate :)
@ChrisBuckGuitar
@ChrisBuckGuitar 6 лет назад
Q Tips Wallet Not at all mate, more the merrier! Joe, if you’re using a Blues Jr, the TS Mini would be a good shout. The mid hump in the 808 tends to put some of the mids back in the Fender, which is naturally a little more mid-scooped. Blues Driver is a little flatter in its EQ and used to pair very nicely with my Marshall JCM800 when I used that years ago. Soul Food will be similar to the BD in its EQ. Get out and try some pedals man; it’s a really personal thing 🙂

There is clearly a reverb effect in your 'clean tone' signal (via amp/rig?) before any of the pedals are kicked on...
@ChrisBuckGuitar
@ChrisBuckGuitar Год назад
It’s from the amp. ‘Clean tone’ doesn’t have to be devoid of anything…
@josephhynes5874
@josephhynes5874 Год назад
@@ChrisBuckGuitar Hey, Chris! Thanks for the reply. I guess I just consider 'clean tone' - for purposes of a demo - to be dry. You referred to it as 'sterile' in another video, but your clean tone is quite lush with reverb (which I'd argue is the most crucial effect component in your overall sound). Anyway, I love your playing and your clever use of all these tone-shaping boxes!

The '76 is a brilliant pedal, but it's definitely not cheap. That said, for the amount of use it actually gets throughout a set, it's definitely earned its keep. It's almost become an 'always on' pedal. Either way though, you'll love the KOT :)
