7:38 For anyone new to seeing these cars or how drag racing works, he gives a quick explanation of how they are running the light tree and determine the winner of the race here. They are basically doing it the same way you'd see at a local strip for regular cars. They do it this way so that any car can race against any other car, by accounting for the differences in their speed.
I had no idea this kind of thing went on! This is absolutely AWESOME! I love the fact that three are a bunch of guys from diverse backgrounds hanging out and enjoying a pretty damn cool hobby.
Bunch of pals built a 1/4 scale dragstrip in my buddies basement in 66 . Cars were all hand made from AMT MODELS . ALL motors, gears, tires and slicks were available from a slot car store in Midlothian, ILLINOIS. WE used a giant train transformer for power. Glad to see this is still being done ! All the racers are gone now, thanks to DOW Chemical!
It's so cool to see all the things/hobbies the world has to offer. I wish all of these cool things got WAY more attention, and also that people can focus their energy toward positive things like these instead of violence
Wow I could totally get into that ! I had a car in the 60”s my dad put together for me but I was to young , I remember I would put the cars back on the tracks when they crashed , I was small and able to get under the tracks really easy ! What a great bunch of guys ! Thanks for sharing
WOW luv slot cars . I got big collection model cars I've built myself same size scale as u guys. Mine just not slot cars. Man i love wot you gentleman have there. Beautiful. NewZealand here. We got few at clubs here. They're bloody 300 miles qaway from my crib.
Thank you for the vid... I have heard of this hobby but have never seen it or how it works, so your asking helped me as well. again thanks.. subbed and liked..
Amazing. We used to hitch, ride bikes whatever to get to the Tazz hobby store in Closter NJ in the 60s to run our slot cars. So cool to see it still exists
Used to do our own rewinds--thicker wire for more torque, thinner wire for higher RPM. Be careful to have each wrap of the wire parallel to all the others. Balance the armature by setting it on two razor blades mounted in a block of wood. The armature would roll to the heavy side, so you took a little off of the arm with a drill. Set the magnets in closer to the armature by putting a layer or two of electrical tape between the can and the back side of the magnet. Other things.
Wow I haven't seen anything like this since probably about ten. I'm 69" I tried to find a old style sling shot dragster of brass and they had disappeared, They used to be readily available back then. And we had a automated digital start. One owner would ask you if you were ready. When you said yes..he push the power that went to both cars at the same time.
Just to clarify for those that seem to be confused. Bracket racing has you report what time your car will turn. The starting lights are then offset so that, theoretically, the two cars should hit the finish line at the same time. This is why the lights aren't synchronized. However, if you under report your time and you go faster than it, you're out because you have given yourself an advantage off the line because of light timing.
As a kid I raced at Sebring on the corner of union turnpike and little neck parkway... I even got two trophy's for the midget races every Monday night. Honest fun.
Good Evening Mr. Simmons, i am from Germany and we see the first Time Drag Race Slotcars. We love that. We drive also Slotcars here with a few Friends and we want to know more About that. It is possible to have Contact over Facebook or another Messenger please? Sorry for my english. Best Regards Tino
Yeah, it is! In '67 and '68, we would build slot cars with aluminum chassis, real thin bodies and sponge tires. This guy had a store with a big 8-lane track. It was awesome. But, I have never seen a drag track before. I could get into that. A good winter hobby.
I know this mite be a dumb request but if you could. Could you post a video on how to properly mount a hard plastic body on a chassis. I cant seem to get mine to fit like i want to n could really use the help.
@@markrenton1093 Did a little research but it looks like these are 1:32 scale models and the fastest ones can reach 32 fps or 21.8 mph. Scale that up and it's 698 mph or 1,123 km/h.
Had no idea there was slot-car bracket racing ! Very cool & some sweet cars Ok question time..... Is bracket racing a big or small part of this event ? and how are the classes & times delays or head starts figured ? Heads-up feels like the best way to go ! What's the average cost of a top end car ? Thank you for the video and racers as an old slot car nut I would love to be blasting down the strip with you guys ! Keep your eye on the tree.... no red-lights & have fun ✌😎 The hobby looks like a riot & I will be checking out more videos asap 😎🏁
This is so cool! I loved slot car racing back in the mid 60's. I was a teen and there were older men with all sorts of cars and kits, parts and controllers. As I recall we had 24th and 32nd scale cars. I know of no slot car parlors like this around where I live but I'll see if I can find one and try my hand at it again. The older gentlemen always beat me and as a kid I remember getting a little over excited during races and they would gently pull me back from the "edge." Everyone was so nice. These guys are having some serious fun. Wonderful!
My brother in law had a hobby shop with slot car racing in the lat 60s-70s I used to go there as a kid and the 2 younger Brady bunch boys used to come in there, I didnt know these places still existed ,alot of fun you guys enjoy great memories.
You guys are so lucky to have a place like that.I had a scaled down version close by when I was a kid it was set up in an old mill ..1/24 and h.o. Tracks.,I think it was .50 an hour track time.My mom would drop me off Saturday morning with $10. That would cover lunch too.
This is awesome! Spent a far amount of my teens racing, building, customizing slot cars. We had several tracks where I lived in Southern California, 1964-72.
I'm guessing the track is only powered to a curtain point? I dont lift, and just see parts exploding against the back wall. 😫 This looks expensive. That circle track looks badass too Super cool to see, thanks for sharing👍👍
As a kid in northern Indiana I remember going to a track with dragstrip on raceday (every Saturday).$1.00 per hour that you played I mean qualified. That turned into a link RC car racing on carpet ovals with my son later in life. Boy has more trophies and he could carry, at least did have! Good memories for sure !
I started playing with slot cars when I was 12 (back in '63). It led me to full-size electric drag racing (NEDRA) and the development of electric motors for full-size vehicles like Black Zombie 222 (not mine, but one of my favorites...)
Bracket racing with slot cars? Come on guys, by all accounts, all of these cars should be equally matched. Make this an open, no holds barred shoot out. If you're holding the longest time at the end of the night.....UPGRADE!
