My Dad committed suicide and never said a word. My ex-husband threatened everytime I ask for a divorce. I was married 20 yrs, I couldn't take the abuse anymore, and went through the divorce. He married 2mo later to someone else. I've always prayed for this woman., no one talks about this openly, I'm sure you have been a blessing to many people today. ❤ To you and Graham.

Isn't that something, after all his threats and drama your ex would then set a speed record for getting remarried.

That's what narcissists do, they threaten suicide. That's what my sister did and mum bought it every time. Of course she never did. That's also what my sil did (biggest narcissist I know) to my brother in addition to making his life a misery after alienating him from his family, when he finally wanted to leave her.

I was a Policewoman for nearly 30 years. I had a lot of experience with suicides and threats of suicide. What I found, generally, was those who threatened suicide did not. It was those that never showed any indication of suicidal thoughts or depression who went ahead and took their own lives. Sometimes threats of suicide are used as a weapon against people they love to get the outcome they are looking for.

So happy to see you both. They say that the majority of people who commit suicide never gave a hint of doing it, if a person keeps saying they want to commit suicide, they are using it to control you. Well, that's what I think.

I agree I've known many people threaten and yet never have, but the ones who don't say anything do kill themselves, and it's just so sad because no one had a clue.

A friend, Phil, was at a party in college, went to each person in turn and said, "Goodbye" and told them he was going home to ki11 himself. Each person laughed, thinking it was a joke, then he went home and killed himself.

Finding someone you love deceased is devastating regardless if it was suicide or accidental. My son's death was ruled accidental, however, finding him is something that will haunt me for the rest of my days. 😢 Blessings to you both tonight and thank you for talking about this problem. ❤❤

I remember my ex-husband of many decades ago who kept threatening to "unalive" himself and almost had me a nervous wreck. After a while I realised it was emotional blackmail. In the end I took control and told him to "F' off and do it". That stopped his threats and made him realise I was not being drawn into his pity party or willing to be emotionally crippled by his hollow threats. That seemed to be enough to make him wise up, grow up and shut the HELL up.

During the 1973-75 recession in the US, many people lost their jobs and the dads of 3 of my classmates took their own lives. Nobody talked about it. My dad was really struggling with his business (he was self-employed) and I remember worrying very much about him being depressed and wondering if our family would be next... I am glad that mental health is something we can talk about now and not considered shameful, as it was during my childhood.

I remember that. It was a tough time. I was very young and had to share a paper route with my older brother to help the family because we were the oldest. Being minors, our income wasn't taxable so it helped our family more than if my dad had taken it on while still working full time. My mom had never worked before but had to get a job too. I hated it and only ended up doing it for 2 years but by then things were better. It taught us responsibility at a very early age. I'm glad your family survived it as well since the 1980's got even tougher for some families.

Noon in my immediate family or friends have committed suicide, but a few years ago I was doing home health. I started with a couple. The wife passed away and the husband & his children asked me to stay on. I took care of this couple for 4 years before the wife passed away. They soon became adopted grandparents to me and my kids. They were a lovely, loving, kind family. Their children were/are wonderful. Just honest, hard working folk. Anyways, the 1 yr anniversary of the wife's passing, I knew it was going to be a rough day. So I stopped and grabbed some flowers and the husband's absolute favorite breakfast (that he really wasn't supposed to eat being insulin dependant) and headed to work/their house. I walked in, immediately knew something was wrong and ran to the bedroom. What I didn't know was my worst nightmare had come true. He had shot himself laying in bed with a 11"x13" picture of his wife next to him. ❤😭😭 I was devastated. Completely and utterly lost. How did I not see what was coming. What signs did I miss. What small things did I not catch because I changed from an almost fully medical role mentality to more of a family mentality. (I loved-still love this family as my own). What could I have done differently. What if I hadn't stopped for breakfast & flowers and got there earlier then normal. Would the outcome have been changed. So many questions. So many what-if's even though he wrote and left letters for their children and myself. The guilt is unbelievably heavy, even 4 years later. I don't blame him. Have never blamed him. I know the hurt he felt after his wife died and he wanted to be with her again, he always talked about the day they would meet again, but I never thought that day would come at his own hand. I still go to the cemetery every year on the anniversary of their passing and bring flowers, as well as send some to their children. Sorry for rambling on. Suicide effects many. It's disgusting that vile people use it as a control tactic to get what they want.

Three suicides in my family so far - an aunt, an uncle and one cousin. I used to think it was a selfish act but now believe that sometimes people just get tired of the fight to be happy and whole. Not everyone can be saved or want to be saved.
@dianat119

My cousin Charlie was a lovely chap and we were all very fond of him. He was arrested after he was accused of stealing somebody's national savings book with a balance of seven shillings and sixpence, the equivalent of 35pence in today's currency. He was sent to Risley remand centre and he was one of 13 prisoners who were found dead in their cells over a fairly short period. They said he'd hanged himself. I have never believed he committed suicide especially over 7s6d. It came as a terrible shock to the whole family. Lord Mountbatten was called in to head an enquiry into all the 'suicides' but I don't think he came to any real conclusions. Like you, Fiona and Graham, I would beg anybody contemplating taking their own life to tell someone and seek help from their doctor. I've heard suicide described as a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It is so wrong, though, for someone to use moral blackmail to get what they want.

Good evening, Fiona and Graham! Thank you for this lovely chat, sitting across the table from us. My granddad killed himself when I was in high school, some 53 years ago. It was shattering for my whole family, as he was a warm, funny, generous man who gave us no hint. Now that I'm in my 70s and have seen a lot, I can only agree with your advice : wait 24 hrs. A day can change everything. I'm offering up prayers on this Shabbat for peace of heart for the world, and forgiveness for my failings. All the love in the world to you both. You mean so much to so many! ♥️

As you both so rightly said, tomorrow is indeed, another day. Things happen. Things go wrong. Things can feel like the end of the world. But give that day another 24 hours. Look for help. See your doctor. ASK FOR HELP from those who can help. And to people who don't experience those feelings ... remember .... EVERYONE you meet is fighting a battle of some sort, and you don't know anything about it. Be kind. Be helpful. Show EVERYONE that you are a nice person, and actually ask everyone ..."How are you today?" .. and MEAN IT! Be ready to listen. YOU may not have the answers, but you can certainly offer to help them get help. Sometimes all it takes is listening. If something needs to be loved, then LOVE IT. Sending my regards to you Fiona and the wonderful Graham, and sending love and care out into the ether to those reading who may be feeling less than happy right at this moment. Remind yourself that tomorrow IS another day, and give yourself today to think of something or someone who might help you. Pick up the phone and ask the receptionist at your doctors for an URGENT appointment - and tell the receptionist that you're have problems and feel suicidal. You'll get an urgent appointment. Love to all ~ Cobs. (UK) xxx

I can speak from experience that people who commit or attempt suicide see no other way out of an intolerable situation. Often They haven zero hope of ever feeling better or getting better. I’ve been there five years ago. Nobody understood and the few friends I did have were not supportive at all. What saved me was being found within one hour of taking an overdose. Suicidal ideation is a different thing, these people think of suicide but thankfully do not act on it. Thank you for the chat Fiona and Graham xx

Thank you all for the kind words. That was in 2010, he was 32 years old. I have to live here just yards from “there “. When you are touched by suicide of a loved one, IMO, you have to find your own path to recovery. Suicide is a very different kind of loss. No two paths of recovery are the same. It requires soul searching of the deepest kind. IMO. Thanks again for the kind words.

@@Armaita63 Once again, I’m so sorry you had to live with such a devastating experience & continue to do so Armaira63. So very well stated, that dealing with loss through suicide is different, & we each must find our own path on how to come to terms with the enormous loss at the same time, as trying to not lose our own way.😔 You articulated this much better than I could, so thank you.🙏 Take care & God Bless xx ❤️

FYI ~ My husband was in an 11 year relationship with a women who threatened suicide every time her wanted to leave the relationship, that's why he stayed for 11 years. He finally left NY, moved away to Pennsylvania where we meet & have been together now for 27 years....his empathy for her, kept him trapped, the only way out was to move. End of story ~ he moved on & she never did....(commit suicide) Could he have left sooner, we'll never know.... but after 11 years he had no regrets & she is alive & well. Win ~ win?? Maybe It was worth the sacrifice....thanks again for sharing 🙏💕

My sister, Gabby used to threaten she’d kill herself. I’d contacted the police on a few occasions. She was a victim of an armed robbery and never got over it. Gabby isolated herself and did commit suicide. It’s still shocking 13 years later. Doctors now say that if people threaten, they mean it. Take action. We did what we could, kept trying to include her, have family get togethers, but she wouldn’t come. It broke my father, just horrible. My mother said she’d never heard that sound from my father when the police came and told them what she’d done. I’m sitting I tears typing this, the pain for those left behind is unimaginable.

I have a dear friend who lost her son to suicide because he was going to go to prison and he couldn’t face his parents so he killed himself. This was about seven years ago. He would be out by now and his mother would have been the first person to be there and hug on him and take him home. Now she has visits him at the cemetery and blames herself for letting him down. I tried too when I was 15 and was letting school and exams get on top of me but no one knew what I was going through and it built up for many months. I do believe that those that threaten suicide usually never do its something you keep to yourself and its constantly in your thoughts until you try...I ended up in hospital but happily survived and left school...going out to work even at 15 was the best thing I ever did. I realise now that Im older that I should have spoken to someone but its not easy to admit that you are struggling and have those thoughts.

The stress of her threatening to kill herself for the last 17 years was brutal, as was a few so called friends before her. They never unalived themselves however manipulated me for years. Hi Fiona and Graham, beautifully and sensitively handled. I have worked in the field of Suicide Prevention and Postvention (support after suicide) for 15 years, and my heart aches for all those impacted by suicide loss. Some people who use domestic violence, including coercive control , threaten suicide to exert control. Suicide is rarely a result of a single issue, its complex and multi faceted, usually related to pain physical/ emotional..."I just wanted it to stop'. People who talk about killing themselves should always be taken seriously, and in the cases (such as yours) where coercive control is happening, the only option usually is to express empathy, provide the person with links to appropriate support and get out.... and know that you've ultimately done all you can. To those who have lost anyone, please do get the information to help you try to understand what you might be experiencing❤, it is a unique and difficult grief

I’ve never felt suicide until the death of my son and to be honest that is the only time that thought has crossed my mind. I understand it from both sides but maybe from a different prospective.

Thirty years ago my great-nephew at 14 went to school and hung from a tree...You have to be very brave or the darkest of places you could ever be to take that action...I've been desperately sad with no end insight and had thoughts but not brave enough to take that action. thinking of the people you leave behind how desperately sad that would make them .. When at school a girl we knew kept threatening and the day we ignored her because we had had enough of her drama she did it and we her friends live with that guilt

Threatening to end your life can very often be a means of frightening and manipulating those close to you at the time. It is not the same as expressing suicidal ideation. Some people suffer with depression that can be a reaction to a life event. Some people have long term depressive illness. Depression can be experienced as a low mood constantly affecting all aspects of a person's life,affecting sleep, appetite ability to work etc. Some people are seriously affected to the point where they become overwhelmed by their feelings of hopelessness and isolation. Any person expressing the idea that everyone would be better off if they were no longer here needs proper professional support. Friends and family can only do so much to intervene and help. The Samaritans organisation in the UK is a very good 'first aid' for mental health. In some places there are established Crisis Intervention Mental Health Teams who are qualified to carry out assessments. Don't be afraid to seek and ask for help.

I agree with you, but then I always think what if the family (parents) are the very ppl that have caused you to be severely depressed in the first place ? Then its even more difficult to deal with your suicidal thoughts I would imagine. A bad childhood because of parents is a real thing, I remember I used to think that all mothers love their children, but I eventually came to the conclusion that no, they dont all love their children, some drive their children to suicide by using emotional and other abuse.....dont you agree ?
@maryj5593
@maryj5593 6 месяцев назад
@@user-nh8yu2mw2i you raise a very important point regarding dysfunctional family dynamics. Like you I was under the impression that most mothers (and fathers) loved their children. That's why I mentioned friends before the word family in my comment. Very often those closest to us ,with the best of intentions are too close emotionally to help. It's a complex and complicated issue.

Unfortunately I have known several people who have taken their own lives, all of them young. The youngest was only 17 & the oldest was in his early 30’s. Not one of them gave any indication. The only female (24 at the time) even worked with clinical psychologists who didn’t see it coming. She planned it very carefully over several weeks, so waiting “one day” was certainly not going to work for her. It is a sad story to tell. She was the one I was closest to.

I understand what you are saying Graham but when you a lonely and feel the world is caving in around you and you cant see no light at the end of the tunnel. I was a victim of SA by father that started at age 7. I married to get out of my house and parents. I married a wife beater raped by him cheated on me and had 2 children. He threw my toddler daughter down the hall and thats when i left but what happened i had to go back to the home i was desperate to leave. Married a marine this time to move 1000 miles away. Well as we know grass isnt greener on the other side. It became a vicious circle. I am married to a great guy now. Weve been married 18 years and its been tough. Thats why i came on utube first with Danja Zone and then yankee wally, i miss her so. That when i found your channel. You saved me Christmas of 22. I was a mess and if had not been for your lives and me feeling like i had friends even if you are in spain you helped me more than you every know. I had a suicide note written, but you were here everyday. Id watch and rewatched. You saved me. I was so close. Thank you

I've just been through it myself. Fiona, my friend, hung herself on 24th April. She left 2 children, and her daughter found her. I heard all this screaming. We ran outside to her, and she said mummy's hanging she was 13. I've been really struggling, I had to take the phone of her daughter to speak to the ambulance, they asked me if someone could take her weight, I couldn't but Mike had to ran up up stairs and held her up till the police and ambulance arrived. I was talking with her in the morning apparently she'd called her mum and sister at 1pm, i keep wishing if only, so i feel you.x

I've been suicidal. It had to do with drugs and my husband....losing everything I ever had.. But I didn't lose my daughter. Everytime it was bad I looked at her ...how shitty if I gave up and left here alone. My life is very good now and my husband and I both have been sober and our beautiful daughter is 15. To people who feel it's all over. Please don't give up! It gets better, it does ❤❤❤❤

You are so right Fiona about ppl who threaten it forever, then one day they actually do it when you least expect it. My sons partner of 11yrs always threatened to do it and he stuck with it and became almost her carer, she eventually came really good and had her dream job, lived on the beach, learnt to drive and we gave her a car, at which time we felt such a relief that she had turned her life around, we went to UK for a 3 month holiday. Right in the middle of our holiday we got the call that she had finally unalived herself in our car, parked above the beach where they lived. It happens when everyone least expects it all the time, I know other ppl that I could tell you about, but they just seem to do it right out of the blue, tragic to say the least as they all had so much life to live and so much to give.....This all happened 5 yrs ago in May and my son has never, and will never get over the shock and loss of her....I wonder if these ppl have any idea of the loss that friends, lovers and family all feel ??

They arrived saw that my boy was doing a good job. As the man started to climb back over the barriers the police then moved in to talk to the man and took him in the car. My son finished his walk with his wife and baby.

Very well done. I liked your story tonight. I have had someone in my life who used threaten to do that all the time. All through his teenage years. He went through uni and seem to have lots of friends. He has never done anything to himself. He craved attention all the time. He was a spoiled kid and has grown up to be a selfish self centred hypochondriac who is now lonley in his adult years.
