Always enjoy your vids and envy your collection. "The Shining" is an incredible film (much, much better than the book) and the soundtrack perfectly complements the suspense. Love the T-shirt too!

Hey Bret this is a winner nice The Shinning vinyl I just picked up the new 35 the anniversary Halloween on Blu ray man it looks great . You have a great collection of soundtracks love the Lost Boys in the background. Have a great weekend Bret Great video. Today the Omen still spooks me out.

Wow. Damian.....um, errr....Bret. Excuse me. What a killer (ha!) post! So sorry I'm a week behind but I couldn't miss this one. For me, our true synergy beyond vinyl has always been our shared passion for classic horror and you shared some real gems and some real rare and precious pieces! So many shared memories (Scanner head explosions! See ya, Lj's gone!), the very first scene in The Shining.....etc. Just fantastic, thanks so much for sharing! - Lj

Excellent stuff...as a huge fan of horror I was watching this questioning myself why I don't have any soundtracks in my collection?! This will be rectified - thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Rob! Yes, several years ago went on a trip down that same route west of Denver... a really glorious drive. The Exorcist - classic. A few years ago I got to visit those long cement stairs that were in the movie - Washington D.C. - located right next to a gas station and is now a popular spot for people to run up and down for exercise! Wow Bret, fantastic episode of FOTT. I too love the Shining, I actually went cycling Maine in 1991 looking for Stephen Kings house and alo the Overlook Hotel, needless to say I as unsuccessful on both counts. However the film and the book had such a massive effect on me. Videodrome is such a wierd and amazing film, so cool you have the soundtrack. Great halloween post, cheers James

Wow! That was some fantastic soundtracks. Love the movies and the Music. As of lately I have started to collect more soundtracks on vinyl, but I've never come across any horror movie soundtracks.

Wow bret those are some KILLER sountracks. I read The Shining when I was In grade school. Yes I was weird back then too lol. I didn't know Stephen had written a sequel. Thanks for the Info. This would have made a great entry into my Halloween contest. Thanks for shining---Colin

Heyo Bret, great show! Your knowledge is always refreshing!...The Omen, heck yeah! Now on the wantlist!...of course you know I dig the Shining! Featured in my latest vid! Definitely getting harder and harder to find...I always thought Shelly Duval was wrongly cast for that role...high school level acting at best...just my opinion, but even "acting" side by side with Jack couldn't make her tolerable...still a f'in classic though!! Fantastic episode. My personal favorites are the Christopher Young scores for the first two Hellraiser films. Wonderful. (The band Coil did a score for the first film that was ultimately not used, but which is also really great). Also, Howard Shore has done some of his best stuff for David Cronenberg. My favorites are his scores for Dead Ringers and Crash. No offense to Lord Of The Rings. That one was pretty good, too =p Happy Halloween!

Hi, Bret! "Bloody" good video and nice T-shirt! :-D I have about four horror movie soundtracks and I have to say that I haven't seen too many of them so they are quite rare. I wonder when that "The Shining" soundtrack on vinyl was released? I noticed that it had a bar code on the back cover. I sure would like to get that one! Bret Ive listened to the Zombie soundtrack alot in fact it sits in the section that doesnt get put away! its nice to hear a track by the Watresses that isnt "Christmas Wrapping" ahaha- John

Jarkko, thanks for tuning in. 'The Shining' soundtrack came out in 1980 on Warner Bros here in the U.S. - it's definitely a gem, so if you come across a copy - don't hesitate! Cheers! - Bret

Hi Bret, I am ready for a good FOTT Scare. Real quickly, I used to see creature double features at the twin drive-in in Neponset which is about a ten minute ride from downtown Boston. They used to show The Omen and The Exorcist back to back. Or The Omen and The Omen II. What a wild movie that it was. The soundtrack to all of these horror movies definitely push up the scare factor. Such as the ending of Carrie. Yikes. > Nice, I love The Shining soundtrack. You drove on that road? Rob/Boston 1/2

Excellent episode Bret , i'd struggle to do a thread myself on Halloween , i dont have many soundtrack albums ! I do have "I Was a Teenage Zombie" did you know that?? You're going to like Dr Sleep it explains more of the relationship between Danny and his father and is a very different book to The Shining you can definitely see how Kings' writing has changed over the years - John

Two of ? By the way, I dig the jersey that you have on. Redrum. > Videodrome was bizarre. I remember when James Woods pulled the videotape out of his stomach. Howard Shore did the music for it? I am pretty sure it was Peter Weller 07:30 that starred in Naked Lunch. That was another bizarre and not as good as the book movie. The Hunger soundtrack must be good? The movie was good but hard to understand. Bret, you killed {pun intended} with this amazingly horrific FOTT. Thanks~ Rob Thorn/Boston

Alex, I actually saw a vinyl copy of Coil's Hellraiser score - had to pass on it because it would've broken the bank! Love those Hellraiser films - hmmm.... perhaps I should pull out the first one for today's viewing. Thanks for tuning in! - Bret

l wish l own 'The Omen' and 'Potergeist' ( both soundtracks by Jerry Goldsmirh) soundtracks on record instead of on CD, but you have a good horror record collection, "excellent!".

Mark! Started reading Doctor Sleep (Shining sequel) last night - having a hard time putting it down. I see what you mean about Shelly / Olive Oil - but to me her strange acting added to the creepiness, and considering that her character was so passive / beaten down, her quirkiness seemed to reflect that. I often think about replacement actors and how different the film would've been with someone else in that role - who could you have seen in that role instead? Thanks for the kind words. REDRUM!

The shining was an awsome book, really scary, so when i went to see the movie i was expecting the same unfortunately it was not scary. A lot of people where laughing specially the scene where Nicholson says "here is Johnny" that was not in the book. Great video..Cheers!
