I definitely agree about Henry James conversations being hard to follow. I think he was going for realism, but it just doesn't work on the page without the nonverbal signals you give and receive in a real conversation. I wasn't sure from your last two videos, but after you said "my condition" here, I'm gonna go ahead and say congratulations! 😁

Thank you for the Eca de Queiroz recommendation. The only novel of his that I've read is The Crime (or Sin in some translations) of Father Amaro.

I agree, it probably works great on stage, but on paper it fell flat and it made it hard to read. Thank you ❤😊

I think I read The Turn of the Screw thirty years ago so can’t remember it but I’ve read other James and he is not known for an easy to read writing style, long sentences where you’ve forgotten the beginning by the time you get to the end for example 😉 I’m generally a fan though. When you mentioned Eça de Queirós it sounded familiar and I remembered that I want to read his novels The Maias, I will now add Cousin Bazilio to that list!

That's what I felt while reading it. I'd easily forget the beginning of the sentence and couldn't remember what they were talking about. The Maias is an amazing piece of literature, I highly recommend it ☺️

Could you make a video recommending Portuguese books or writers?
