Frederick the Great had an army of mercenaries, not conscripts: hence the emphasis on prompt payment. As professionals, they were better trained than their opponents. But they had to be paid for.
When Napoleon took Potsdam, where Frederick is buried, he went to see the King's grave. He told his generals, who'd followed him, "Take off your hats, gentlemen. If this man were alive we wouldn't be here."
@@Hurkanos He absolutely did, he just preferred French because all his favorite philosophers were French. He wouldn't have been able to lead his army if he couldn't speak German.
@@boris4753 the pic shows king Frederick the great at the battle of Zorndorf. As the left part of his army was about to flee he took his flag and marched with this part of the army back into the battle and won
Yes, Frederick really did this! With his army collapsing under Russian attacks, he dismounted, grabbed the standard from it's bearer and set off on foot against the enemy. Those that saw the heroics rallied, though only the timely arrival of his cavalry actually saved him from defeat. Leadership by example at it's best... most leaders I've had to follow have been seriously deficient in the only trait that matters.
@@dr.ludwig i mean yhea but that is suprisingly commen for sucsefull military leaders (at least onncampaign) for example ceaser and wellington were know to this (it for some like ceasar it was often a thing to improve morale, but wellington pulled that shit even of campaign)
King Frederick of Prussia was probably the greatest military commander in history. His army was tiny but achieved victories against great odds with rigid discipline and inspired leadership.
That was the doing of his father for the most part. Dude was a massive cunt to Frederick II, but he was very successful in reforming the army and state finances (to pay for said army).
@@pain5835 Consider all the factors that prevented him from accomplishing more. The Grand Battery. Frederick did that first, which is one of the reasons that Napoleon, artillery officer as he was, admired him. Anyone who doubts Frederick knows nothing about history and Prussian culture
@@pain5835 Wow that's such a hecking inspiring quote!! I guess we're just going to showcase cool moments in history now. Napoleon in exile said "Read over and over again the campaigns of Alexander, Hannibal, Caesar, Gustavus, Turenne, Eugene & Frederick. Make them your models. This is the only way to become a great general and to master the secrets of the art of war. "
@@pain5835 He has inherited a small rural backward state (Prussia) and transformed it to be one of the most developed and powerful state of Europe He drained marshes and enlarged the soil for farming than he introduced new technics that increased agriculture productivity He encouraged the manifacture through the mercantilist policies investing in the creation of new industries and building new factories , he also encouraged the technical advancement to improve the quality of the products He reformed the juridical system, abolishing the torture and introducing a modern code of laws without medieval corporal punishment He reformed the civil service making it the most efficient and the fastest of Europe He was the first to establish compulsory schooling Frederick was no Clausewitz, but another king might have committed suicide after Kunersdorf, or sued for peace after the loss of the invaluable Silesian forts in 1761, or even bowed to pressure and given Silesia back to Austria when he first saw the mighty coalition arrayed against him in 1756. It was the man who not only did not balk from the coalition in 1756, but who actually took the initiative and attacked them first and kept fighting after his bloodiest defeat (3,000 men left out of an army of 48,000), but who actually rallied his shattered forces, and went on to win further battles until his exhausted enemies finally sued for peace in 1763. To say he wasn't a Great king is sign of complete ignorance. An Englishman could never understand the significance of the creation of the Prussian state. The Englishman only wants to understand whether the man gains any sort of profit from the battle, but no Englishman would never understand the idea of Prussian duty (Think Immanuel Kant). Anyone will find the idea of conscription, of a Landwehr, and one's social status depending on military rank a danger to one's personal liberty, except for anyone who lived in Prussia. It was significant in that geography. Frederick's propensity to fight for a backwater shithole that had no natural resources, such as oil, manpower or industrial capacity to rival all her enemies is a responsibility nobody wants, and yet he's carried it pretty well
She wasn't empress, she couldn't be as a woman. Her husband did hold the title as emperor of the _Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation_ . Maria Theresa's primary title was Archduchess of Austria.
I used to hate this type of music, but when I heard it in a German bar, with traditional decorations, dress and culture, I suddenly realised how to appreciate this music! It’s the type of song you like with a beer in your hand with 5 guys day round a fire, rather than to listen to on the radio.
I love how he says "The Roman Empire revolted against me" just like if he considered himself as the rightful ruler of the whole HRE xD btw I'm from Lorraine, which was part of the HRE by then.
@@sharjiljafric-3184 Brandenburg, hs homeland, was called the Holy Romans Empires Sand-Box and the real Prussia wasnt even Part of the Empire. Friedrich had never a chance to be chosen as emperor.

(Lyrics from Karl Sternau) Fridericus Rex, our noble King and Lord He calls every soldier to gather gun and sword Two hundred tall battalions and a thousand squadron corps And every single grenadier has sixty shots or more! "You blighted men" says his regal majesty, "In battle I want every man to stand by me. Silesia they begrudge me and for Glatz they do the same And they envy all the gold that lies within my royal name. The Empress has wed, with the French she does consult, And the Holy Roman Reich is uprising in revolt! The Russians have invaded, they are storming near and far Let's show what kind of fighting men the Prussian soldiers are!" "My general Schwerin and my Field-Marshall Von Keith And my Major General Von Ziethen are ready for the fight! Bolts, thunder, crash, and lightning - bloody hell and horrid woe! Our triumphs go before us so that all the world may know!" Goodbye, my Luise, will you wipe away those tears? Your man is a soldier who marches without fears! If every single bullet were to go and hit its mark Then where would every regent get their soldiers proud and stark? The musket ball makes a very tiny hole The cannon-ball makes an even bigger hole! The bullets are of iron and are cast of molten lead! And many straying bullets have missed many straying heads! Our cannons roar, they're a force that can contend And a Prussian soldier's loyalty, is faithful to the end! The Swedes in the north have the awfullest of field And anything in Austria can nothing better yield! The French pay their soldiers with bottles of pomade In Prussia every soldier is always promptly paid! Bolts, thunder, crash, and lightning - bloody hell and horrid woe! Who gets their pay as quickly from the Prussian overflow? Fridericus, my King, the laurel wreath adorns And every single soldier his loyalty has sworn! Fridericus Rex, my king and lord We'd follow you hell if only you would give the word!
The class society in the army in those days... the King the Officers their horses the cannons the cavalry men the cavalry horses the artillery horses the artillery men the infantry

Salmon cuck is so overly used that it has lost its meaning. I don't even know the true definition anymore. Just like the words cringe, nazi, incel and sexist. Dumb fucks always misuse these words on someone they disagree or don't like.
@Salmon These days everyone and their uncle in history is declared gay, especially all the people dear to right-wingers. Surveys (when this was still done) all confirmed about 2% of men are gay. So all these historic figures being declared lovers of the poop-dick is just a political move, and not based on reality. And I say this without having done any research about homo claims about Friedrich der Große (a tiny fraction of these claims sure must be true, so maybe he was - I don`t know).
@@mananaVesta Only Frederick and Julius Caesar are claimed to be so, in both instances as long as you're high status/of the nobility or the patricians nobody gaf what your sexuality is, (Greeks even allowed it, Romans say so long as you're the dominant partner you are not shamed). Genghis Khan for example, who's brutal compared to those 2 is definitely straight and even had hundreds of concubine-wives, Ivan the Terrible isn't claimed to be gay, neither is Adolf nor Stalin (who both genuinely despise/dislike them). Tbh it's an overclaim, Charlemagne, Charles Martel, Napoleon, von Ludendorff, Moltke the Senior and Junior, Kaiser Wilhelm II. I've never heard anyone or even anyliberal declared these men gay. Besides, going on Wikipedia and checking all the sources about the homo claims about Friedrich der Große I find go as back as a journalist working on it in 1929, a time where homosexuality is a taboo in the Western world, and the latest going in 2013, way before the alt-right movement gained popular traction or even the name "alt-right".
Dear Santa, I don't require any gifts this year. I already have the best men, the best lands and the most treasures. All these mofos around me are envious of my glory. Best regards from your king and lord, Fritz
This song alone paints a picture: Think, a glorious, present, intelligent leader, a well fed and supplied army, and an unwavering national pride. Indeed, to me this march encompasses all of that. From what i have read, he even led in battle, and was a very competent, and skilled commandant. Another thing; the lyrics. They swap between glorifying Prussia and demeaning other nations. And that ending, man it oozes a sense of honest pride and loyalty. Truly, one of the best songs on this channel in my mind.
Wins? Only the miracle of branderburg house saved him and Prussia. "I have no resources left, and, to speak quite frankly I believe everything is lost. I shall not outlive the downfall of my country"
I am sorry but very much of it was luck as well... the russians and austrians could have just marched into Berlin without much resistance but they didn't and instead pulled back. plus nobody expected the tzar to die so the russians morale was immeadiately at 0
Vielen danke Dr.Ludwig saludos to you and Germany I'm saying it again i love all German marching songs and music,no matter the army, air force or navy thanks again

Guten Morgen, Herr Doktor! I just happened across this post from before I was a Subscriber. A great march and now I will always be able to match the title with the music whenever I hear it! As always, a GREAT painting behind the music. Could I please ask you its title as well?
