I used a smart-plug and programmed it to turn off my refrigerator for 1hr everyday between 1-2am. I tried every damn DIY fix for this problem but only smart-plug method fixed this issue permanently. No more fan noise or ice buildup for me for past 6 months. Food stays just fine and it save electricity too. Thank me later ! 😊
Supposed to get that Automatic defrost every 6 hours or so. So that this doesn’t happen. Meaning one of 3 parts are not working. The round bimetal thermostat at the top of the evaporator coil or the heater itself. The defrost timer or defrost board. Whatever your unit has.
I just I had to do this Last Tuesday to one of my units… it’s a GE side-by-side with the same evaporator design as the one shown in this video. the heater burned out and it iced up. This control board design allows the fan to stay on after the compressor shuts off and still running when the compressor shuts back on when this problem happens.. liner protection mode they call it.
Nice even frost pattern but the fan hits the ice... needs the defrost system to work. If it isn't the element, check the thermal overload and thermostat. I like the simple repairs. 😊
Since this evaporator looks like a Frigidaire or whirlpool design. Need to check out that one because it’s very different. Heating element looks like an oven element
@@harrytech179I also have a loud compressor on a GE unit. Found out after I purchased it some years ago. I think it’s just cheap parts. Works fine, except on the loud side. Kinda embarrassing if someone comes over.
