Good review!!! All i can say is that i have this until its out and im not using amps since that. That sound better direct in front house than all my tubes amps mic. Sometimes something sound good alone but dont cut through the mix but this think is amazing in a mix. It also keep the sound of your guitar and is extremly good to clean up when you low down your guitar volume. Every guitar player need this!
Sounds incredible! Truly sounds like a 'Marshall Stack' in a foot pedal. Seems like they've _finally_ figured out how to do it and yet keep it very easy to use. And the kicker is that it apparently really feels like a 'normal' tube amp when playing it. Well done indeed.
Thanks for making this video - it was a big part of why I decided to get one of these It sounds so good through my FRFR I can’t wait to build a pedalboard (or maybe a rack?) around this
@@LeonTodd I really appreciate the work you put into this channel and it certainly seems like you and I like the same kinds of gear/tones so thanks again and I’ll look forward to watching more of your vids!
*That with a Boost and an H9 MAX on the front with an Midi Controllable Graphic EQ through the FXLoop and a H90 after it is a complete rig! Honestly Todd, I hope that you guys aka **#RAGDOLL** are gearing up to push that brand FULL AHEAD/ FULL TIME and start Touring with a New concept Album 2024...! YOU COULD CONTINUE DOING GEAR VIDEOS FROM THE ROAD -which would be additionally heavy, I think and very unique content.* #cheers
@@LeonTodd cool - all in all a pretty good product design - use everything or just bits you need and integrate into other systems. I noticed that the software was designed by Synergy.
got mine today and not as impressed as i was with videos like this one, did a A/B with my helix and decided i wasted my time. sounds good, sounds cool, but it's not at all what i was expecting sadly.
So, when you use the midi, do the presets save your gain and eq settings, or just the settings mentioned in the manual (channel, boost, loop, ir, presence and thump per channel)?
I have this unit, and the ONLY disappointment is that you cannot save gain/EQ settings via midi. Kinda feels like it defeats the main purpose in utilizing it with a MIDI rig IMO
@@ChandlerBrown That's not ideal, but not too bad imo. I currently use the Twonotes Revolt with midi and the only thing you can do with it is switch channels (3 regular, and each of those with boost). Ultimately I just want something that gives me a couple of channels of differing dirt. The Twonotes sounds great, but there's no post boost volume control either.
Is there a midi cc change option to turn the loop on/off and change other settings without program change? I always have to think in snapshot modes lol.
I just spent about 5 minutes going back and forth between this and the Axe-Fx with the same IR. My favourite settings on the pedal correspond to these on the Fractal; Friedman BE V3 model. Bright switch on Bass 10, Mid 4, Treble 6, Presence 6, Depth 3, Master 4. Sounds bang on to me. The workflow is obviously very different between each device but they're both packed full of awesome sounds.
@@LeonTodd Ahh sick, I will try those settings! I would expect that the Pedal would sound slightly more "realistic" than the Fractal because its from Friedman themself. What are your thoughts about this? I use the FM9 myself.
Still learning how to use it got it i2 hours ago it’s run into the effects loop guitar coming from the Friedman pre amp it’s sounds good it’s thumps in the bass notes have to turn bass all the way down playing thru a heavily modded JCA22H I wanted to see what this Preamp had running into effects loop My purchase for this is Friedman preamp is for my Marshall 9005 amp to try before I buy a Marshall JMP-1 will see sounds ok Thru my Jet City thus far I’m still playing I want to run effects Thru it to
Hi Leon! How does that compare to a Kemper? I mean for basic tones: clean and dirty (not considering any effects). When I hear this I think it's a lot warmer and realistic than the Kemper am I right?
After having gone down a years long rabbit hole of IR's from big brand names and loads of purchased packs, I keep coming back to the LT TV Mix 7, it just sounds great with anything I throw at it and it comes really close to my Greenback and V30 loaded Vintage Modern combo. Thanks for making this available dude. That Friedman unit sounds flipping great! I thought I was done buying small form factor stuff after recently scoring a ToneX pedal but looks like I got some more spending to do! Can the power amp sim on this be turned off at all? Running it at home I would ideally run it through the power amp of my Marshall.
Sounds amazing. May have to look into this as a second to my FM3. Im curious as to what pickups you have in your PRS that you mainly use they always sound incredible and Id love to get some for my Sterling JP. Thanks again for another great review.
@@LeonTodd Yep that sounded amazing. Saves me from buying a Small Box. Had to roll the 80hz back a little on the Tascam Model 12 but I think that is because the ASC12 sounds more like a 412.
How on earth have you got this box to sound so good via DI? I've just picked one up & I'm getting a crackle in the breakup that sounds harsh even just into the breakup gain levels. Could it be my guitar causing that?
@@LeonTodd Ooh! Btw this new OX stomp is a game changer too, can’t wait for you to get one (you’re sure to able to get one before me & you do the greatest reviews 😎🙏)
For us the key is the noise floor.. We are touring a similar solution with victory kraken, but they have proved unreliable and even with noise gates, when direct, have an audible buzz across all 4 units, each venue each night picked up on that. If this unit mitigates that hum, and buzz, it's the perfect solution
Good review and thank you for the IR! I have got the IR-X for some days now and i love it. Especially the clean channel suprised me... Your LT TV Mix 7 Speaker IR has made it on one slott. On the other two I have the original DFRIED 6402 57 121 and a Ownhammer IR of a Mesa 4x12 with V30s in the Modern mix.
Thanks Mr. Todd, excellent demo and playing. I need this to feed the house speakers and then a power amp for stage sound. Absolutely incredible, I love the versatility and flexibility! Thanks for being thorough.
Would love to have a version without the IR stuff, but with some 4cm switching stuff like the Victory V4 preamps. Sounds killer though and can't sniff at the fact that it has 2 channels with individual EQ...
Very cool.. I just love Friedman stuff.. His amps always reminded me of a hot rodded Plexi. The dirty shirley always seemed like a 50 watt amp I'd want to try.. I've never played a Friedman, but all I've heard were just great.. The man knows his stuff for sure! Very cool, and he's a midwestern guy too from Detroit! :-) Just too cool a preamp! It just sounds killer and would be great to go direct.. Especially if you used a midi switcher or something to store some presets and with some other pedals involved it would be great too use! Very cool sir! Very good video!
I have been thinking about a pedal board W/D/W with each output being balanced line line DI ready. Was looking at Origin Effects Hot Rod as a possible amp in a box with Two notes as a solution. In your opinion how does this combination compare to this IRX?
And here I was thinking I was going to trade my Twonotes Revolt for an IR200 because I pretty much only use the plexi channels on it. This might be the one, lol.
This is how you do it! High voltage tube preamp with the benefits of digital modeling technology. So simple yet so versatile. I hope Friedman will make a rack version with stereo FX loop/outputs🤔
Mine is on the way back. Must have been defective, as it had 2:19 lots of raspy high frequency ringing noise and the tone and volume knobs were of little effect. Didn't sound a bit like your amazing demo. Oh well, hopefully only losing thirty bucks postage if the seller honors their one month return policy.
Great review. Thanks. Im impressed what quality of sound you get out of a rather cheap pedal compared to the amps its represents. If I would not buy a Fractal FM3 Turbo soon this would be also a good choice. For less then half of the Fractal but without all the amps and pedals of course.
I really don't see this thing as useful and more of a novelty. For $300-500, one could get a full-featured modeler, like Atomic Amplifier with SHARC DSP, 12 footsw., and more than 1 trick pony! imo
Ordered one today. As much as I loved the LT FM3 vids, I just could not warm up to the whole digital menu thing. Yep, even with the app. Bought it, studied it, lived it. Sold it! On the flip side, I'd really interested (as a hopeless tube amp aficionado) in the simplified rig. Great video, as always. LT is a go to for me. Hoping that the Friedman IR-X is the IT everyone says!
Hello Leon! Love your videos. I'm thinking of grabbing one of these. Currently, my main rig is simply the Line 6 HX Effects with a Strymon Iridium inserted into a FX loop of the HX Effects. I have fuzz, boost and overdrive before the loop and then modulation, delay and reverb after. The HX Effects then goes out to my interface. Being that the output of the Friedman IR-X is balanced, can I put it in the loop of the HX Effects? Will I need to use two return jacks for a stereo return? Would I need to set the returns on the HX Effects to be line level? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Just got mine yesterday. It's the platform that I have been searching for. My God the tone & touch responsiveness are Incredible! The cleans are amazing but it can get so filthy.
4CM or in the loop of my Helix Floor do you think makes the most sense? It’ll be midi controlled with the Helix fyi As usual great video. You certainly have a knack for this line of work
@@LeonTodd thanks for the reply. I wasn’t sure if flexibility matters either way because putting the effects before and after can be done using either method I believe. But no doubt there’s more to it than meets the eye. 👍🏼
I just ordered one yesterday. I like I can use my FX unit, and store the presets and recall them VIA Midi. A Nice two channel format, just like I gig with now, only a lot more compact! Great demo as usual!
