I had this happen in college in our friend group. The friend in question could throw hands. I told her because everyone else was scared. I knew she was showering and cleaning. Turns out she had an infection and once she completed her cycle of antibiotics, the smell went away. I began to side eye the two who wouldn't tell her🙄

Soap. Water. Deodorant. And clean the washing machine regularly. No clean body is going to smell good in mildew clothes.

Yo, some folks are just nose-blind. They have NO IDEA how they smell, especially folks who: smoke, wear synthetic fibers (e.g. polyester); eat highly acidic or fragrant foods; etc. Sometimes culture/background is at the root of the problem; sometimes it's an economic issue. But come to folks with LOVE, and COMPASSION, and address it. If they get defensive - hey, at least you tried!

Unfortunately I was the smelly kid and even into college I would be musty. Yes I washed and used deodorant. Deodorant would stick to my skin even with soap and a rough bath cloth. I would scrub so hard my underarms would bleed and then I would have to still put deodorant on open wounds. That caused me to develop HS FORTUNATELY I later discovered that body scrub is my best friend! Sometimes we don’t have people who will help you find a solution but would rather just pick at you instead, I’m thankful I don’t have the problems I used to! I hope everyone is kind when they talk to their friends about their problems you never know what they’re going through. Common sense is not common

I had a 48 hour flight and I knew I was musty because the woman next to me made one loud smelling/sniff noise. I believe that is the universal signal for "You're Musty."

I live in Austin and have found a lot of the people here are FUNKY. I had a convo with some folks at a happy hour...everyone, male and female, either smelled a little musty or like unwashed hair. Someone said I smelled good...I said I use either scented lotion or lotion and then cologne on top of it to make it "stick". Many of them responded that they don't like chemicals in their hair or skin and use a variety of oils and herbal soaps, etc. I guess the herbs and oils don't last as long as the chemical-based products....I had to leave the happy hour early...

Don't forget to wash wigs ladies! Your scalp sweats more than you think!

Note that there is a difference between antiperspirant and deodorant. Antiperspirants are designed to reduce sweating, while deodorants are designed to cover up the smell while inhibiting the odor causing bacteria that makes your sweat smell. Make sure your product is a deodorant with antiperspirant. Plus, most people need to use it in more places than just under your arms. Your joint areas are where sweat gathers, also under your beasts and lower back. Some people have a lot of hair under their arms. Most women shave, but most men don't, and that hair just holds a lot of sweat with bacteria. Antiperspirants only work if applied directly on the skin. Do with that what you will.

Remember certain foods will make you musty, onions and garlic, and asparagus. Eating these items have nothing to do with taking a bath. It is in the blood system. And these food items are good for the body .

And this piece is for diabetics and their loved ones. Pay closer attention to changes in body odor, because it can indicate issues with your blood sugar. I don't understand how or why ppl are friends with ppl they can't tell the truth to. I have no problem telling my friends "nope, no ma'am" and vice versa. If i can't tell u the truth or u can't tell me the truth, we are not friends.

TRUTH!!! Let’s get to the root of the matter which iseth thine pits. I got $5 on it. Did you have a hot flash and your pits outgrew your deodorant. I mean, real friends can tell each other.

A few months ago, there was a man that made a video saying that if you don’t use a washcloth that you were musty. This was during the time when celebrities were talking about not washing their kids. The way this man spoke, with such disdain for people that were musty, like he was just so done with it-it scared me clean. I bought the scrubbing cloths that are really coarse and I can report that I’m no longer musty. Now I don’t know if race has anything to do with it, but I was not taught to use a washcloth, but he was black and it seems like black people are raised a little bit cleaner than the rest of us that didn’t know we were supposed to wash our legs. Idk but one less white girl is musty and I wish I could thank him for his service.

Sadly, some haven’t been trained with foundational skills. For example, I didn’t just tell my daughter ‘take a bath.’ Why? That’s a general instruction. I told her ‘wash everything.’

I've always been paranoid that i stink and especially as a plus size woman i know it's a stupid stereotype type but i try really hard to not be stinking in public lol if possible i try to take a bath right before i leave the house for anything. My last 2 doctor's visits i was complimented on my scent! The first time it was the nurse at the front desk asking what perfume i was wearing. This last time it was the doctor when she started doing my physical exam said "you always smell so good what kind of perfume do you use?". Let me tell you the way that has made my month! 😂😂 it's nice to be complimented but if it's on something you are paranoid about it has a soothing element.

Recently I spent two nights in the hospital as a guest. The cop at the info desk lovingly joked about me being in the same clothes lol i know he sees it often. But y'all my pits were screaming lol i didn't want to leave my daughter's side. But when she said mom you stink lol I knew i had to find somebody's shower STAT!

Sometimes the smell comes because the deodorant company done tricked you. Like you can't find your regular deodorant and so you decide to take a chance on a new variety and in fine print at the bottom it says no aluminum. Which is code for you need to carry me around all day and reapply throughout the day. But you didn't know that until 3 days in when inexplicably at around 2:00 in the afternoon you start smelling yourself everyday. So I appreciate Crystal with the statement, "it's boring let's put on deodorant."

At 8 My underarms smelled like a grown construction worker. Tussy was my best friend now as and adult I put enough deodorant for 10 people. Never will someone say girl Lisa was humming. 😂😂😂😂

People don't even tell their mates that they stink like they need to, so they dang for sure isn't telling their friends. I get tired of being at work with funky coworkers and even around family/friends who stink. I got my hair braided by one friend early in the morning and her 😺 was stinky every time she moved. They be married or in a relationship and their mates let them come outside with bad breathe and high booty butt crack smell, musty and fishy. Some of them mates/or they themselves caught STDs and don't know it yet, thinking it's yeast. And lately when i go into public I don't know what's going on with men with blue jeans but they have this weird smell. I don't know if those little pee droplets when they using the bathroom in addition to not washing their pants is the issue or it's some kind of detergent they are using. But I see the common denominator which is men with blue jeans on. And I've told people they stink and they got mad/said I was lying. Two dudes i told that when were dating and they both were like well nobody ever told me that. Chile one go come months later talking about he went to dentist and had a bad tooth. Baby I'll stay single before I stay suffering with someone with bad breath. Then he go ask if he could eat me. I declined. Whatever was in his mouth was not about to be in my 🐈😂😂🤣

Lemme tell you. I just turned 32. "Did you Remember deodorant?" Is A question me and my sister been asking since childhood. Now i ask everybody before we leave the house 😂😂😂😂😂

The change of life could be happening. Real friends will address the issue and explore options together. Either way is a sensitive subject and should be addressed delicately. Depending on your relationship with the person of course.

Most of the time, I will bring it up myself to give my friends a warning. I am going through menopause or something because my Native is not working for me anymore. I just switched to Lume and I am still kind of hesitant if it works. If your friends are your girls, well that's one more thing we can talk about.

What I will say in the 30+ range, being a new mom a few times over, few of my new mom friends, well maybe just one, and also myself in the hustle and bustle of everything have forgotten that one last step. Sometime we waiting for our skin to heal a little bit from shaving the under arms before we put on deodorant, and then, deodorant gets forgotten. Not often, but it can and has happened to grown 30+ year old women.

There are times when I tried a new deodorant because I can't get my usual. I'm always self-conscious when that happens, constantly sniffing my pits 🤣🤣🤣. I tell friends, if my deodorant isn't working, LET ME KNOW!! It hurts my feelings more if you don't say anything than if you tell me I'm musty!

You should always tell your friend if they are awry in ANY way otherwise you are not a friend. I was a skunky in my younger years so I always self-checked and watched the foods I ate. I learned to use the right soaps, smell good layering scents etc. medicine can be the culprit too

See for me it's like, ok, if you're the "freshly worked out" sweaty type of musty, that's perfectly fine. That pretty much never produces a foul or unpleasant type of odor, unless you have bad hygiene to begin with. But if they're actually just "I don't wipe properly and haven't showered in a week" then it's a whole other issue. As someone who used to go many many days without showering, idk how people get so stinky after just 12 hours of no shower. I haven't showered in 30 hours since typing this and I legit smell clean still. Every part. Yes, I checked. EVERY. PART.

I had someone in my training circle that was musty before 8 am. We train in closed quarters. The disrespect to my nose led me to pull said person aside unlike the others and try to come up with a remedy I bought him dial soap and degree sport problem solved for duration of training he was grateful that I didn't talk behind his back like the others

I needed to see this video. My coworker of 2 yrs smelled for 3 days and I didn't know how to tell her. We share a office together. She was on her menstrual and I could tell she was having some hormonal problems. Shes is her early 50's. I didn't feel comfortable telling her because I wasn't sure if she would take offense. If it was my close friend I would have pulled her to the side, or took a trip to the CVS. I just spent most of my time in the conference room and went into today to spray and refresh the office.

Friend or no friend, being told that you have an offensive body odor hurts your feelings. If you are the fresh-as-a-daisy friend, don’t use the tough love approach. Tact is called for in these delicate situations. With bad breath, offer an Altoid’s mint then pop one in your mouth too. For visible nose debris, spinach or food particles interfering with a broad smile, you might say, "Next time you go yo the restroom you might want to check your (fill in the blank.)" Mustiness requires something different. You might want to say, "Were you around somebody who was cooking onions or garlic? It must have gotten in your clothes. Those strong smells can really cling to your clothes."

You can be musty but my question is why are you here, at my door, in my house?😂 Your post production thoughts brought back a memory. When we were in school there was a girl that was always musty and her so-called friends gift wrapped a bar of soap and a stick of deodorant in a box like it was a present and gave it to her in the hall in front of everybody. But that wasn't the worst part, the worst part was that that day was actually her birthday.

Usually it's men, the depressed, and the financially struggling. There was once I ran out of deodorant, soap, laundry detergent and money to do the laundry, while sleeping in my car in the summer time, and had so very little I needed everything I had to eat. i do work a physical job, and i sweat while i do it. if i have to be in somebody's presence before i've had a chance to wipe up after a shift, i'll say point blank that "I smell like effort." but *usually*, i have some wipes and deodorant in my work pack that i can use when the shift is over.
